Mikimoto, I want a 16" strand too, the only one's I've loved are Mikimoto. I already have the studs, got 7.5's and they are perfect, big but not too big, I think I liked the stand on me best in 7 X 7.5 but you have to try them on to know for sure....

Mikimoto for pearls!! For sure! I purchased some at the Mikimoto store on Rodeo, they were so helpful! Have you looked at Iridesse? Tiffany's sister company that specializes in pearls?

I would still choose Mikimoto pearls though...

I own a pair of Mikimoto pearl earrings that were a gift from my boyfriend. He chose them after doing a lot of research and comparison against different brands including Tiffany. Funnily, when I was trying on diamond earrings at Tiffany and took off my Mikimoto, the sales person asked if they were Tiffany. We replied no, Mikimoto and the sales person agreed that Mikimoto has the absolute best quality for pearls. I would go with Mikimoto if you are buying pearls. If you like Tiffany, stick with them for diamonds J

Agree with everyone---Miki's all the way! As great as Tiffany is at everything else---Mikimoto specializes and is known for their pearls. Not sure about other things, but I love the clasps on their braclets---mine is shaped like an eight and its "engraved"'---very elegant. I think from the Tiffany ones I saw---the clasp was more "plain" and not as "lady like"

I think it also depends on your skin type. It could be different now, but when I was looking to purchase my pearl necklace a couple of years ago. Tiffany's pearls had a silver tone to them and Mikimoto's pearls have the more common/ traditional rose tone. For example, choosing a wedding dress; not everyone looks good in the same shade of the color white. I leaned towards Mikimoto's pearls as they had the rose tone that look so good on me.

BTW, I ended up purchasing from American Pearl and went with the 7.5-8 as it would give me something to grow old with. American Pearl also has alot of interesting information on their site about what to look for in pearls, it impressed me enough to buy from them and I have not been disappointed.

As a funny aside, I wore my necklace into Tiffany's and the lady asked if it was a Tiffany's and I told her no it was not. She then pulled out the best single strand in the 7.5-8 that she had and there was really no comparasion. She was shocked to see that what I had was far superior to what she had and also shocked with my knowledge. I really do not think that she expected that.

***I do not or have I ever worked for Tiffany's, Mikimoto's, or American Pearl. But, I would be more than happy to answer any questions. Good Luck and thinking of this as a timeless piece makes it an easy purchase!

you don't necessarily have to go with a big name brand - a lot of times they charge more just for the name and you could get the same quality or better from somewhere else.
but if i had to choose between the two, i'd say mikimoto for pearls
