Tiffany I colour diamonds?

I'm NOT pleased at all with Tiffany's customer service.

They refuse to give me any details and just keep on talking that they only use perfect stones, that all their stones are cut to perfection, etc. They even said that they cut the diamonds themselves (I thought they buy them from somewhere?) Anyway, it's been a real nuisance to work with them.

I've found that too, I was emailing a SA who was doing diamond searches for me. I requested more detailed specs (beyond the 0.9, D, VVS2, Excellent cut) and she repeatedly only gave them after prompting, along with the "we only have EXCELLENT cut stones (implying that I don't need to do more research into cut!), backed by our LIFETIME WARRANTY". Excellent by whose standards? YOUR OWN! So no bias or anything!

I have nothing against Tiffany (I think their workmanship is excellent) but the constant parroting of the "Tiffany is the best" line wore me out. I'm still thinking of getting the wedding bands there, but not the engagement ring.

I have a feeling the Tiffany SAs themselves don't know too much about diamond cut and truly believe all their diamonds are "excellent".

That being said, if requested, they should be able to bring up the cert with the angles and percentages.

I don't think it's a matter of them not being educated. Two of the SAs I buy from are GIA diamond certified! I sounds like it was just a bad apple among the SAs and decided to give you some attitude.

I would just work with someone different next time you visit the store and explain you were not happy with the service you received so far.

Gosh, this is interesting reading. My SA at Tiffany went above and beyond to get all the information I needed to make a decision. Given my budget, clarity, color, and carat requirements, she searched the database, and within the database, showed me a list of potential stones that would fit my requirements. The database lists out the certificate information with the carat, depth %, crown angle, pavillion angle, culet, table %, dimensions, etc. With the information, I was able to plug in numbers to determine the HCA scores for each stone I would consider.....I ran the HCA in front of her. I had no problem getting the information I needed so to hear all the stories about SAs not willing to give out pertinent information is really unacceptable. You really need to go find another SA who will work with you to get the information you need, and you tell them that if they don't provide you with all the information, you will go elsewhere. Tell them that you are a serious buyer, and you will buy elsewhere. I don't understand why such attitude.

Actually the closest to the real things are one from Brian Gavin Diamonds (tapered or classic), and the Vatche U113, which you can get from Good Old Gold and Whiteflash and High Performance Diamonds, I believe also through I.D. Jewelry as well--but they are someone you will not get as much info on the stone from online as GOG, WF or HPD. James Allen cannot (or will not?) get Vatche settings anymore. I have not seen any "real life" pics of the James Allen one that I can recall in recent time. But the pics make it seem fairly decent in terms of closeness. They have had some issues in terms of...customer service hiccups of late and a few issues with settings not matching the CAD image on the site though, so make sure that's ok with you.

Oh, I just don't know what to do... maybe I'll try a different boutique, that might help.

Also, do the Tiffany-inspired settings look very good? For me it's not only about the diamond but also about the setting. The whole package must be perfect!

imo you cannot compare the two and expect it to match the original. the tiffany solitaire is the original and yes there's a few that come close but if you're heart is set n a tiffany setting you cannot compare it to other solitaire settings. :smile1:

I think the Vatche and BGD are on par esp the Vatche. The Vatche fools Tiffany employees. And they'll set the stone a little higher if you want it higher than Tiffany will.

If your heart is set on the Tiffany setting and not a Tiffany-inspired setting, I think it would be worth it to try a different boutique. The SA's I have dealt with have been very forthcoming with information and very supportive of my search for the perfect diamond for me. I hope you are able to find a similar experience at a different boutique!!

If you want the real deal, I would tell them the sale depends on them providing you all the information you requested up front and without it you'll find another boutique and sales associate willing to do the work to earn your high dollar sale.

In order to speed up the searching process a bit, what shall I tell my SA to look for (e.g. type of girdle, table, depth)? Are there ranges that are best so that we can narrow down the choices?
