ilvoelv posting pics is definitely on my list of things to do! Were still in the process of moving, but once we're almost settled down I will go buy a camera! Hehe I have my phone however most of my tPFing is done on it and I'm fairly sure I cannot post via phone!!

i think all you ladies have really good points here...ack!! i wish it was as clear for me. i think kissmark said it best mentioning that i might still "wish" i got a tiffany after it is all said and done and i'm thinking, maybe i might still think of the blue box :( . if i go with tiffany, i would have to go from a vvs1 to a vvs2 and from a "d" color to a "g" color. not sure if that means my diamond won't sparkle as much or that the quality of the diamond will go down substantially for a much higher price point if i went with the blue box.

remember cut is the most important! I got a ex/ex/ex F color VS1. if i can do it again i would even do F/VS2. as long as the diamond is eye clean it's fine w/ me, no one, including myself, will be looking at the stone under a scope once i leave the store.
with color, sometimes i can tell the difference.

I had this same dilemma!! While I could get more for the money elsewhere, I just loved the Tiffany Novo! Ofc my original e-ring ended up not being a Tiffanys, but a HW, DH managed to surprise me with a "gym ring" Novo and I love it!! It just sparkles like crazy vs. the other rings I have!!! Simply LOVE it!
Just pick whatever your heart prefers!!

what is a gym ring? you have a HW AND a tiffany?!
oh im so jealous:graucho:

We went with Tiffany and have no regrets either. Sure I probably could have gotten a bigger diamond elsewhere but it wasn't about size to me, it was about cut, clarity and color and customer service. I have a beautiful set which I am very very happy with.

ps- their complimentary worldwide servicing is awesome

DH pretty much came up with the term gym ring! LOL! He noticed that when we were working out, that the ring was getting in my way a bit! The band of my e-ring is quite snug, but the diamond still makes it tilt to the side a bit! So DH had this fabulous idea of getting me a gym ring!:yahoo: LOL Thankfully I work out a lot, so it's not like it goes to waste! (then again, DH says nothing he gets for me ever goes to waste!) I also wear my gym ring if I go out somewhere casual, because attention isnt always a good thing!

I'm going to say NO. And only because I feel that Tiffany&Co really does put a HUGE premium on their rings. In the end we went with Harry Winston-- much better value!!! (and who would have thought anyone could say that?!) And the experience was much more boutique-y, which I loved.

I'm pretty sure you pay a big premium for Harry Winston too, or any of the high end jewellers like Cartier, Graff etc etc.

Yes, for sure, but I think for the $, the value of the diamond I got at HW is better than i would have gotten at T&Co in terms of size and quality. Cartier and Graff are also quite expensive. I was actually shocked at HW prices, but I think it is because each piece is priced upon creation. So depending on the market fluctuations, you could be looking at a little discount or a little premium. Across the board, though, pricing is fairly consistent. I just think of the raw materials v overhead plus the experience.

I think everyone should do what is right for them. I would look elsewhere because I think Tiffany if way overpriced and overhyped, and the blue box is meaningless to me. So yeah, all of that isn't worth an extra $10K to me, it wouldn't even be worth an extra $1K or $1.

But that's what I would do, if you love Tiffany and that's what you really want, you should get it and not settle for something that is a better deal and perhaps a better product but not what you really want. This is a ring you are investing a lot of money in and something you will be wearing daily for probably a long time, if not forever, so it better be something you love.

Could have not said it better myself! 100% truly genuine advice!
It you can't stop thinking about Tiffany's e-ring and your bf let's you pick out the ring, go with your heart's content.

When DH and I were shopping around for rings (he wanted to know what I liked and didnt like) I definitely found HW's quality much more better vs. Tiffany. Tiffany does put a large markup on their items - but so does HW, however the transaction/shopping experience with HW far outweighed Tiffany, as Tiffany is simply overcrowded these days with people looking at SS rather than fine jewelry! At HW, we got fabulous service that didnt feel too suffocating vs. at Tiffany. On top of that, there were a lot of issues I had with Tiffany, such as young women looking at rings with their gfs and taking up the SA's time, but not serious about their purchases at all.

But walking into HW, the air is more sophisticated and the people that are shopping are generally their to buy!! In terms of quality/service, HW outrumps Tiffany! As well as other designer boutiques such as Graff & Cartier!

But back to the topic - if you really feel like you need & want Tiffany, and you will still think about Tiffany if you dont get it, then by all means go for Tiffany! Just because a ring has a label on it, doesnt make its value any better or worse than any other ring out there.

On top of that, you should just be happy that DH and you are getting married!! That's more than enough excitement/joy than a Tiffany ring IMO!

Something to point out is that Tiffanys will probably be cheaper than a comparable item from another high end jeweler such as Cartier or Bulgari but only if you're an American shopping in America. If you purchase from a lesser known brand it of course will be cheaper but than again there are some drawbacks to shopping from such a place.

absolutely. i am thrilled beyond words that i finally met the best guy for me, but i guess in this situation, i'm excited that i get my cake and eat it, too. just trying to figure out which cake i want to take a bite out of . we are going back to tiffany's this weekend for another "talk" with an s.a. perhaps the decision can be made then. *crosses fingers*

well...with my original ering-it's a Tiffany, regret? no! because it's a piece I have wanted. There are times I wished we went with a no brand ering and could have gotten a larger and better quality stone. but my ering still makes my heart sing every time when i see it.

with that said, my upgrade isn't/will not be a tiffany. I had my tiffany experience and it was great but we just simply couldnt afford the larger and better stone with the tiffany price tag! LOL!

Daluu the other option you have is to get something smaller and lower spec that you want and then in the future use Tiffany's upgrade policy to get a larger/better stone? Even the lowest spec stone (for e-rings) Tiffany carry is still going to be amazing.
I know a few couples who have done this as a compromise.

The great thing about Tif is that you have 5 years to upgrade your ring..I think I have 2 yrs. left..my ring was about 14K so I have to buy one that is atleast double that price and I trade in my old ring and just add the difference..Plus complimentary cleaning for life(you know they run from $13-$20 a piece) on all jewelry (they even polish my NON Tiffany with their steam blaster), and replacements, exchanges and ammendments past the year are accomodated-- all FREE. Also complimentary engraving on everything you buy in the future and free shipping on all those repairs or cleaning. SA gives me a brand new E-ring box w/ tissue and blue box after my cleanings. (I've sold them on EBay, lol)
So along with a great ring you get tons of benefits!! And the service is excellent.
GL!!All the best!
