we had good connections and purchased from people who sell to tiffanys, so we got it at the wholesale price and they DO mark it up a LOT. the novo is definitely gorgeous, and it was what i wanted, but we got a modified cushion brilliant cut, and it is unbelievable and i'm more in love with it than i was the novo.

i think all you ladies have really good points here...ack!! i wish it was as clear for me. i think kissmark said it best mentioning that i might still "wish" i got a tiffany after it is all said and done and i'm thinking, maybe i might still think of the blue box :( . if i go with tiffany, i would have to go from a vvs1 to a vvs2 and from a "d" color to a "g" color. not sure if that means my diamond won't sparkle as much or that the quality of the diamond will go down substantially for a much higher price point if i went with the blue box.

i believe even though you will go down from a vvs1 to a vvs2 and from a 'd' color to a 'g' color, it doesn't mean your diamond won't sparkle as much. if you ask a person who's a diamond expert (which i've read many times), it's the cut that counts the most. if you think about it this way, a vvs1 and a 'd' color else where probably looks like a vvs2 and a 'g' color from tiffany...lol. not saying that you could compromise those stats ever...i guess what i'm trying to say is the cut really makes up for those stats...i don't believe you could tell the difference between a 'd' color from a 'g' color with the naked untrained unprofessional eye, so why even bother between this small discrepancy unless you are really certain in your heart you want a 'd' color. i read from the diamond talk forum pricescope that if you get a 'g' color, you'll get the most bang for your buck....soo...that's exactly what my fiance did when he purchased my tiffany engagement ring for me. there are so many positive things about tiffany and if you ever pick up their engagement ring catelogue along with their catelouge that says 'sustanability - our most important design', your mind won't change. their philosophy and the comfort of a peace of mind you receive from them is priceless. i think you should go for the dream that many girls always dream about, the blue box option. go for the gold.

I don't think anyone ever regrets buying/getting a Tiffany ring! I think quite a lot of the time you do need to sacrifice colour/clarity/size to afford the ring you want at Tiffanys, if you really do want the blue box I personally think it's worth it because their diamond qaulity/standards go way beyond just the 4 Cs and the craftsmanship is perfection.

Daluu I have a D/VvS1 e-ring from Tiffany and I honestly can not tell the difference between slightly lower spec stones from Tiffany and I can only see a tiny difference with stones below G/Vs1 (that's in good lighting), in regular light I can only see a tiny difference in colour between my DBTY H/Vs1 and my D/Vvs1 e-ring...they still sparkle the same though!

I buy most of my diamond jewelry from Tiffany, I like their post care service and I like the piece of mind I get from Tiffany, like I said above they're very strict with what diamonds they use so I'd prefer just to go to Tiffany than shop around trying to find a exact match (not just of the 4 Cs) for a cheaper price (lazy I know).

Also I think with some designs like the novo, ribbon, legacy and so on it's better to get the Tiffany version, they're much nicer than the copies IMO.

Don't get me wrong, the Tiffany experience is really glamorous. But in the end, you're not going to wear the box, you're going to wear the ring, and people are going to think it's beautiful regardless of where it's been purchased.

I'm not quite sure which specific style you are going for, but generally speaking - when a diamond is a brilliant cut, inclusions are already nearly invisible to the eye. Clarity doesn't necessarily make the diamond "dull" and going from a VVS1 to a VVS2 would be no difference to the eye. In terms of color, a D would be an icy white, where as a G wouldn't be that icy white - but still white to the eye! What makes the diamond sparkle like crazy is the cut! Then after that you factor in clarity and color!

And also, just because something is Tiffanys doesn't mean that its "the best". Tiffanys diamonds are D-I in color, and I believe in clarity, they go from FL or IF to VS2!

Lori is right! In the end, youre going to be wearing the ring - and not the box. People will think its beautiful regardless and whether it is Tiffanys or not wont necessarily make a difference! (Except to you)

I love my Tiffany ring. Its the classic knife edge solitaire and I got a diamond band from Tiff to go with it. Recently I saw a nonTiffany knife edged posted with a Tiffany knife edge band and you could really see the difference. Tiffany diamonds are conflict free and that was also an important issue for me. Yeah you might spend more but for me I have zero regrets.

Somewhat OT but I dont believe Tiffany diamonds are conflict free. From what I recall, some of the diamonds - not all are actually cut by Tiffany, of course these companies are paid by Tiffany to do the cutting. Other diamonds are pretty much loose diamonds bought from diamond sources.

Generally speaking - conflict free diamonds have a laser inscription on the diamond itself, and it wouldnt be too difficult to run a counterfeit laser inscription business! It is very difficult to be absolutely certain that a particular diamond is "conflict free".

i think my bf is being very kind to me so it's pretty much up to me to decide what i want given the budget that he has. i guess i'm freakin' out because now it's up solely to me to decide and i just want to figure out if i'm getting his money's worth since i'm spending such a huge chunk of "his" money. i guess i'm trying not to feel guilty here for loving such a pretty blue box :blushing:. thanks ladies for your feedback.

Their diamonds are conflict free, Tiffany have a subsidiary called Laurelton Diamonds who supply/cut stones that are only from mines/companies involved with the Kimberly Process. Tiffany/Laurelton also have a diamond cutting facitily in Yellowknife Canada.

I don't think Tiffany would risk their good name, so I'm sure they would be very concerned about counterfeit 'conflict free' stones and go to great lengths to prevent selling them.

Ooh, this I didnt know! Thanks for the info :D! I was aware that Tiffany had a diamond cutting facility - as our SA mentioned that, however I was unaware of them being conflict free!

I had this same dilemma!! While I could get more for the money elsewhere, I just loved the Tiffany Novo! Ofc my original e-ring ended up not being a Tiffanys, but a HW, DH managed to surprise me with a "gym ring" Novo and I love it!! It just sparkles like crazy vs. the other rings I have!!! Simply LOVE it!
Just pick whatever your heart prefers!!

I am so jealous! i want to see!

My SA told me about the lengths Tiffany go to avoid blood diamonds, I assumed they'd be conflict free before she told me but it was nice to have it confirmed.
There is some info on their website....

I think everyone should do what is right for them. I would look elsewhere because I think Tiffany if way overpriced and overhyped, and the blue box is meaningless to me. So yeah, all of that isn't worth an extra $10K to me, it wouldn't even be worth an extra $1K or $1.

But that's what I would do, if you love Tiffany and that's what you really want, you should get it and not settle for something that is a better deal and perhaps a better product but not what you really want. This is a ring you are investing a lot of money in and something you will be wearing daily for probably a long time, if not forever, so it better be something you love.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with a Tiffany diamond. And if you want a solitaire in the "Tiffany" setting, their setting is unique and much more beautiful than other six-prong settings. However, you will pay for the name...but the stone will be spectacular. If you want a different type setting, I don't know that it matters where the stone comes from, as long as it is certified and you love it.
