Did Tiffany buy back your original ering with the original price you paid for? Or they paid like 95% of it?
From the original cost of my ring, they charged an upgrade fee which ended up being around 17% of the cost of the ring! I could've declined to upgrade upon learning the appraisal amount but I decided to just take the loss to get a bigger stone....
The normal fee is a few hundred dollars. ($500-700) it was significantly larger than this?
Wow that sucks! I wonder if they've changed it across the board or if they atually look for particular things.
I know one of the managers at my local Tiffany store so I was talking with him and he mentioned that it could be because it's a channel set band, it's a little more intricate than say the knife edge band which is why it was more than usual... Even my SA said the fee was higher than expected...
Went to pick it up tonight... and am so happy with it!! I took a couple of pictures but had a hard time getting some good shots... I will take more in the daylight!!
I only had the ring for about 4 months before I upgraded. The way it worked was they subtracted the upgrade fee from the original cost of the ring and I had to spend at least double that amount! I actually picked my new ring before I even found out the appraisal amount (that is, how much $$ I would be getting to apply to my new ring) and ended up spending a lot more than 2x the appraisal amount!
