Make a choice when you see them in person. I'd want the numbers to confirm cut quality, but I am not the one who will be wearing it.
thanks for all the advice!! i really don't know a whole lot about diamonds so i appreciate your help!

once i find out all the numbers, what do i do to find out the cut quality?

You can post them here, and we can help you. I personally think if you love with your eyes, that you need to not worry about the paper. But the numbers that are important to me:
Table Percentage (preferably 55%)
Depth Percentage (around 60-62%)
Crown Angle
Pavilion Angle
Culet (should be 0 or none)

We can run them through a small tool to see if they are in a good range, but really the first two for me are bread and butter.

So, I went in to my local Tiffany today to look at the rings that my SA brought in for me. Surprisingly I was able to tell the difference in color between H and I.. it was slight, but the difference was there! My SA had printed out a copy of the diamond certificate so I was able to look at the percentages. The table percentage was 57%. The depth percentage was 62%. The cutlet was "small"... which is where I had issues with the diamond. Just by looking at the ring from the side I could see that it didn't sit well in the setting and I could see the tip at the bottom.

Unfortunately, my SA wasn't able to bring in the original H diamond that we had originally talked about, and the H diamond that I looked at today was significantly more expensive than the I diamond ($2000). In spite of the price difference, I really liked the H diamond so that's what I'm going with. That particular diamond had no cutlet... not sure about the other percentages... but it's absolutely beautiful!!

So glad you were happy with a stone! Any idea when you will have it back from Tiffany's?
Thank you so much for all your help!! I am so happy with my decision! My SA is still waiting to hear back on the appraisal and then I'll go back in to pay for the difference and send it off to get re-sized!! I will definitely post pictures once it's officially mine!

YAY! I can't wait to see it!!! It sounds GORGEOUS! I was tempted by a big beautiful I colour there too as it reallllly was stunning but I'm like you, I can see the colour change from H to I as well. Sounds like you got the perfect one!!

:happydance::happydance:

Oh and PS: NO Tiffany's would not put out a diamond with BLACK INCLUSIONS, y'all! Come on!! :pI'm not saying they are all perfect (I've found a few 3.9's on that pricescope scale etc) but seriously, I have a pretty big VS2 that's held right up to the light by the setting and you cannot see a THING in it from any angle with the eye. I shopped all VS2's at Tiffany's and never saw as much as a feather. Some other vendors or graders may well do that but not Tiffany's!!!!

Just had to say that. :amuse::p

The wait is killing me!! The appraisal was supposed to be done by April 10th, but my SA is still waiting to get it back... She said hopefully it'll come back today then I can go in to pay the difference and then send my ring off to be resized!!

Question... My other ring was a size 4 but I found that once on my finger, it tended to move around a lot... Should I go a little smaller?! It might be a little tighter getting over my knuckle but I was thinking that maybe it wouldn't be so loose on my finger...?! Anybody have this problem with their ring?!

Do you wear it with a wedding band now? If not, I would wait til you are, because that will push it up a little on your finger and tighten it. Is it loose over the knuckle now? Is it SUPER tight in the summer? Because you don't want to have it sized down and end up not being able to get it on or off in the summer. Your finger will change sizes through the day, and with the seasons so keep that in mind. But if it's REALLY loose, all the time, you might want to go down maybe 1/4 size.

I don't wear it with a wedding band yet so I think I'll just stick with size 4 for now. It's not really that loose over the knuckle... And I did read somewhere about fingers changing sizes throughout different seasons... I haven't worn it in the summer yet, but I live in Hawaii so it's pretty much summer all year round! ;) it does tend to be hotter and more humid in the summer months though, which is why I wasn't sure about going any smaller in ring size! Thanks Ame!

Absolutely! We honeymooned in July on Maui, Oahu and the Big Island, so I recall that being particularly gnarly. lol If after you're married, and after you've worn them together a while they are spinny, look into it. But if youre like me, my knuckles are more than 1 full size larger than my finger is, and I have to size mine to get around the knuckle, and they do spin a lot and there's no avoiding it.

Went in to my local Tiffany yesterday to see the appraisal results and to pay for the difference for my upgrade! I must say the upgrade fee was highway robbery!!! I didn't think it would be quite that expensive... Even my SA thought it was a little high!!

Regardless, I paid the difference and my ring has been sent off to be resized!! I should get it back in about a week so I will post pictures then!!
