Hi!

I usually don't post much on this forum, but I'm in the process of upgrading my .52 Tiffany round brilliant with channel set band... I absolutely love that ring but I wanted a bigger diamond. I'm currently waiting for two rings to be transferred in to my local Tiffany store. One is a 1.01 carat I color vs1. The other is a 1.02 carat H color vs2.... I believe the price difference is about $700. I've read that it's really difficult to see the difference between the H and I color but my .52 was H so I'm a little hesitant to get the I even if it is cheaper. Opinions please?!

Wait til you see them in person. Without them being side by side, you likely will not see the difference, unless one is lesser cut than the other.

All other things equal, the color increase from I to H is definitely worth $700 to me in a one carat stone.
Okay, that's what I was thinking, too! My half carat was an H color and I thought it was absolutely beautiful!! I also read somewhere that the bigger the stone, the more you can see the difference in color... is this true?

I believe that they're both excellent in cut!

Based on what? The cert? The SA? The numbers? I personally would go clarity over color, but that's me. An I with a higher clarity would be more mind clean to me than an H with a step down. That's just me. But you need to see IN PERSON which one you love, and have her show you them both without identifying which is which. Judge with your eyes not with paper and price.

based on the certificate... do you think that vs2 is too low for clarity? my .52 H was vvs1, but i was thinking i could sacrifice the clarity to save some money.

I agree about seeing them in person, because you might be more color sensitive with the bigger stone. As for the clarity, VS1 and VS2 are both going to be completely eye clean.

I am not sure VS2 is completely eye clean as some VS2 stone does have black inclusion according to some tpfers here. I am also a clarity sensitive and prefer VS1 more than VS2

By definition, v2 is eye clean. If someone sees an inclusion in a v2 stone then it was graded incorrectly. See the stones in person for sure, but a Tiffany v2 should be inclusion-free with the naked eye.

Is it a GIA cert? or a Tiffany cert? What are the angles and percentages?

For me personally, many Vs2s are not my idea of eye clean. I have owned stones all over the scale, and lately I am finding too many non-eye-clean VS2s. Too many with black inclusions. YOU have to judge what YOU are happy with IN PERSON. You can't just take our word for it and pick without seeing it. Id want to see them in person--without being told which is which--and then pick.

SHOULD be. I have only seen ONE VS1 that wasn't eyeclean, and I don't know really what qualified it as a VS1, but I have seen VERY MANY VS2 that are NOT eye clean. MOST VS2 are, but the GIA has allowed black crystals to still qualify as a VS2, and those are 99% of the time visible.

That's not always true. It SHOULD be true, but there are often stones with black crystals in the center that based on specific location and size, qualify as a VS2.

I personally think that if there's a black crystal, it should automatically be Si2, or even I1, but the GIA will still qualify that as a VS2 if that is the only inclusion and it's small and in the pavilion. Whether that's fair or not is the question.

I would THINK that Tiffanys would not sell a stone with a black crystal inclusion though.

^agree. GIA may grade diamonds with black inclusion with VS2 but Tiffany wouldn't have VS2 inclusions that's obvious with the naked eye. Don't worry too much about what's on paper, you have the benefit of viewing the diamonds. See and love with your own eyes :) Congrats to the upgrade!

it's based on the tiffany cert... and I haven't seen it myself; it's just based on what my SA has told me. I'm not sure about the percentages and angles.
