Tiffany e-ring upgrade - would love your advice

I probably would, if I could afford it. Part of why its priced that way is the VSB fluor--so if you're not into that, don't get too excited about it. I personally LOVE fluor so I would love that, and it would be worth it to me if the budget worked. If you wanted a Tiffany style setting that looked close enough to the real thing, they make a pretty good one.

Yea traveling with a tiny one for that long...may not be a good idea, if you're staying here for a while it might work out, but not if you're only coming for a few days.

Thanks, Ame! I just got of the phone with Lesley from BGD and she was extremely kind and helpful.
I have been reading all day about fluorescence and looking at pictures of diamonds that have it and from what I get, it will only make my I-color diamond look whiter. :smile1:
Based upon reviews / what I hear from Lesley, I shouldn't be worried that the fluorescence will make the diamond look milky/hazy (which was my main concern when I saw the strong blue fluor. on the certificate).

The HCA score of this stone is 2.3 I believe, which isn't as good as the other stones I posted, but then again I guess I shouldn't be putting too much weight to that either. The fact that YOU like the stone is worth more to me than any online calculator out there. :smile1:

Well I would like to see pics, so I won't judge it til I see those. If it doesn't look good in pics then you pass on it. But the numbers seemed good, and just because it got a 2.3 doesn't mean it's a dud. That tool is not the end of the world. There are still duds within the 0-2 range. The fluor for me is SUPER appealing and I don't believe it will be hazy at all, they are very particular about their blues that they put their name on.

The fluor WILL make the I look less warm, though thats still not super warm anyway.

I do think you need to cool your jets a bit, and see what happens with the pics. Don't get your hopes hung on it just yet. The James Allen one was also nice as well.

For the money, I would pick out a well-cut, under 2 HCA scoring stone from either Whiteflash (their ACA line is great and you get full trade-in value down the road if you decide to upgrade again), or Blue Nile. Set it in one of their Tiffany style settings, *and* you still get to keep your .85 from Tiffany! Win win in my book. James Allen and BGD are good too.

That is a DAMN FINE lookin stone right there. And a REALLY nice IS and ASET. Have they said if it's eye clean? And what is their definition of eye clean vs yours?

What would you set that in?

Yihaaaaaa!

They said it is eye clean and TBH, I'm not that good in spotting inclusions. I have a 10x loupe but even then I can hardly spot anything in my VS2 diamond. 😃

I think the decision is made!!!!

Haven't really thought about the setting anymore. Do you have any suggestions?

I am the most grateful to you for finding me this stone!

^^ Thanks, Ame!

I would like the setting to be platinum.

I always LOVED the classic Tiffany setting and so does my husband (he's the one who picked my ring) and I think it's one of the most beautiful settings in the world.
But it feels kind of 'wrong' however to me to have it made by someone else now...

Have you made any decisions?

We bought the BG Blue diamond! :smile1:

We figured that if after a couple of months of wear I would start regretting having "cheated" on Tiffany, we can still follow that route and resell this one... (So we're keeping my current e-ring intact for now, instead of turning it into a pendant.)

I THINK we will go for the Tiffany style setting (not yet confirmed). My DH wants my new ring to look exactly the same as my old one, just because that's the style he chose and that's the ring he proposed with...

We discussed me possibly having a problem with wearing a dupe, so to meet me somewhere in the middle, he suggested that we go with the Tiffany setting for now and then later on, if I'm really not happy with it, we can look for another setting we both love as much as the Tiffany one.
I showed him some examples of the work of Leon Mege and he seemed to like it very much, but he thinks of that more in terms of a RHR because he really is attached to the design of my original ring.

And I just want my DH to be as happy as I am with my upgrade. I would never want him to think that I wasn't happy with the ring he picked for me.

Another aspect I took into consideration is the fact that we didn't have a Tiffany in Belgium until a year or two ago (it might have been a little longer). So there aren't THAT much people who are familiar with the Tiffany setting. When I got my engagement ring, there wasn't one over here, so very few people know that my current ring is from Tiffany and the ones that do are also the ones I will honestly tell my whole story about the new ring (I would NEVER pretend it to be a Tiffany ring when asked by anyone anyhow).

So in the end, I think we will end up with a Tiffany STYLE ring.

PS. I tried to change the title of this thread, but I don't seem to be able to do that??

Yea I think getting an "as close to the real thing" setting is a good idea, it's a good look, and you will like it because it's familiar. Can't wait to see it and hear what you think when that bad boy shows up. Man the blue in the stone is IN-SANE.

:smile1: Can't wait for it either! We did indeed decide to go with the Tiffany style setting.

I have one last question for you ladies though: my wedding band is the Tiffany shared-setting band ring - do you think I will need a spacer? And if so, can someone recommend me one?

I've never worn one, but I am under the impression that my wedding band has bent a little bit after 2.5 years of wear. I took it to the Fifth Avenue store a couple of months ago and they assured me nothing was wrong with the ring, but when I stack it with other rings, I notice a small gap which, in my opinion, shouldn't be there...

I also have the Tiffany novo band and the Tiffany channel-set band ring - would either of these be 'less damaging' to wear next to my e-ring?

TIA!
