I love this thread! I have always wanted a Tiffany e-ring, but lately have been considering no-name to get a bigger rock. After reading this, I know in my heart that I will never be happy if I don't get the Tiffany ring. I can only get 0.75-1 carat this way and I'm going to have to wait longer to get it, but at least I know I will love it! I am having a hard time deciding on the setting because I love sooo many of Tiffany's designs, but I am thinking the Novo.

audiobahn - It really depends on your future fiance's lifestyle, style, and finger size. To me, 0.5 is a little bit small even though I have small fingers. 0.75 is much more preferable to me. However, the Tiffany's diamonds do seem to have a certain sparkle that makes them look bigger than they are! I may even consider getting 0.5 Tiffany ring so that I can have it sooner and then upgrade later on. I think they have some kind of upgrade program...can anymore elaborate on that? And yes I would say the price listed on the website is the lowest end because it says "starting at". Tiffany's carries VS2 or better diamonds (I think...someone correct me if I'm wrong) and I colour or better, so anything will be nice!

Thank you for your reply. The reason I was asking is because a local jeweller wanted a bit more than Tiffany for a 0.5ct and P1 clarity! Made me doubt if I could get a VS2 diamond or better for cheaper. Another thing I was thinking, was to fly to NY and buy it tax free from the 5th Av shop. Then I could by a bit more for my money. I know that flying there might not be very cheap but that can come out of my travel fund :) And proposing in NY is cooler ;)

Tiffany, recently, has been bringing in SI1 clarities. This is what my ring is. I think that this is a good place to compromise to get a little bigger stone or a stone of better color (what I did). Happy shopping!

1) nearly 4 yrs
2) Yep! I wear a 0.35ct right now and we will be looking at the 0.8-0.9ct range for the upgrade whenever it happens
3) N/A
4) round, tiffany setting
5) Yes, I love this style as my original ring, but for the upgrade we are looking at a more mature style (like the round brilliant with melee border)
6) see above
7) Worth it for the quality and (worldwide) service.

1) How many years have you had your Tiffany e-ring? - 6 years
2) Would you ever consider upgrading? - Yes
3) If you already upgraded - how many years after receiving the original? - N/A
4) What shape/setting do you have? - I have the classic Tiffany 6-prong solitaire
5) If you could do it all over, would you choose the same or a different design and if so, what would you get? - I would likely still choose the same one. I remember liking the Lucida a lot at the time but it looked terrible on my fingers. I would perhaps consider the Legacy now.
6) Don't answer if too personal! - What price range and size range is your stone? - 1.4 carats.
7) No regrets about getting a Tiffany diamond. 1.4 carats is a good size on me since my fingers are size 5.5. I would like to upgrade to a 2-2.25 carat down the road, but I wouldn't get a non-branded diamond. Ditto on the service and beauty of the classic setting!

Interesting that they are bringing in SI1 now. Still no visible imperfections I believe, so I guess it's a good way to make it more affordable! Good to know - thanks for the info AntiqueShopper!

I'm in the process of buying the Tiffany Legacy and was just curious what color and clarity diamond did you ladies get?

I don't remember the clarity off hand, but it's an "I", which I hesitated on but really, it's really really white. I think they must grade conservatively. My old diamong was a G, and I swear the I looks whiter.

I LOOOOVE my ring! So here you go!

1) How many years have you had your Tiffany e-ring? 1.5 years
2) Would you ever consider upgrading? hmmm, maybe in 10 years, has to be Tiffany
4) What shape/setting do you have? I have the classic Tiffany solitaire
5) If you could do it all over, would you choose the same or a different design and if so, what would you get? Nope...love my ring!
6) Don't answer if too personal! - What price range and size range is your stone? $25K-$30K, and it's a 1.76ct.

1) 5 years
2) yes, I would like to upgrade again
3) upgraded for our 5 yr. anniversary
4) legacy
5) If I were to upgrade again, I would consider the novo
6) 2.45 carats
7) no regrets at all about the legacy.

Just found this thread and love it! I recently got engaged (in Paris!) and was able to choose my own ring - I have had anxiety over it - all of my friends went to wholesalers and so their rings are bigger - but I don't actually like any of them - the classic Tiffany solitaire is for me! Question - is there a visible difference between a .90 and 1 carat diamond? Oh - and I love the legacy - plan to buy that as a milestone bday gift to myself but with a coloured stone!

it is a very small visible difference if any at all. however, purchasing the diamond at one carat will trigger a higher price bracket. i suggest you stick with slightly under 1 carat if that's your budget. gl.

1) How many years have you had your Tiffany e-ring? 3.5years
2) Would you ever consider upgrading? Maybe
3) If you already upgraded - how many years after receiving the original? not yet4) What shape/setting do you have? Tiffany Setting RB
5) If you could do it all over, would you choose the same or a different design and if so, what would you get? YES! I'd definitely choose the same one as it was the only ring that I fell in love with eventhough there were many bigger stones with no brands that were within my DH's budget.
6) Don't answer if too personal! - What price range and size range is your stone? I'm not a huge fan of large stones so yeah...mine is tiny and my finger is a size 5
7) It was worth every penny bcos it sparkles like crazy eventho it is tiny :girlsigh:

Is the Tiffany upgrade policy a worldwide thing? Or is it just US.

I mean if say you buy a ring in China (which is so much more expensive than US prices), can you upgrade and purchase from a US-based Tiffany?

Would the price that you purchase your stone in China for be converted into US dollars and you can use that as a base for the upgrade or will the US store use the US price as the basis instead? I wonder....

1. I had my ring since February 4th (to be exact) :)
2. I have a 1.02 tiffany classic, and I would not want to upgrade my ring. I want to keep the ring because I love it and for sentimental value. But, if someone was to give me a 2 ct tiffany anything, I would not turn it away :).
3. N/A
4. Tiffany Classic
5. I would choose the same ring. It has been the ring that I have wanted since I was a child. There is something appealing about owning something that has been in design since 1886. Also, it is the only ring my fiance liked the look of. He did not like the Cartier 1895, anything from Saks, Ross Simons, or the other tiffany rings (thought they were too flashy- he is a simple guy). So, it was the perfect fit.
6. 1.02 F colored- other rings (similar size) we looked at ranged in price from $10.000-12,000.
7. It was totally worth getting the name brand. I grew up in household where my mother had bigger stones but no name brand. Her stones ranged in color from D-G/H. My ring seems to sparkle more than any of hers. She definately has mentioned to me numerous times how much she likes my ring (but that is what moms do :) ) Finally, I cannot tell you how many compliments I receive on my ring. I try to hide it, but still people stop me to compliment me. So, to answer your questions, yes it is worth it. I love my ring, and I constantly look at it. If you can buy a ring that you are happy with the size, then go for it.

Happy shopping!

Agree agree agree!!!

My original ring was lost... it was a generic .80 carat one, very pretty... but when I was helping choose my replacement I went STRAIGHT to Tiffany's!!!

I'm so happy I did... I have the classic 6 prong round brilliant, 1.5 carats, G VS2 and it takes my breath away! I get compliments too from complete strangers... it just SPARKLES!!! And I love Antique shopper's comment about having a design with that much history to it... when you see the Tiffany E'ring booklets featuring your ring, it's just such a giddy feeling!

That said, I've shopped for earrings now at Blue Nile and could have gotten my ring for 30% less there, and you CAN certainly find a diamond with the same specs and same brilliance for a much better price - but I wouldn't change a thing! To me it's jewelry and the setting is a big part of it, and their 6 prong is so iconic and gorgeous I'm just in love with it!

I also have to say I love that I trust Tiffany's, that their stones are all excellent cuts, and that you can have it serviced there worry free for the rest of your life. If you plunk down thousands and thousands for a ring (that also has huge sentimental value) you can't imagine how nervewrecking it is to leave it with a jeweller for any length of time! But when I leave mine at Tiffany's I just know I'm always going to get my ring back and have excellent service and it's just a nice perk. :)

Sorry I didn't answer in order! You can tell I love my ring though! I think if you're thinking about it you should get one, and forget upgrading - get the most you can afford plus some and be happy with it! :) :p
