Thanks for your help!

Sure thing. If/when you get more options, please let me know in here or in a PM and Ill give you some input. If you prefer either of these, that's fine. Cut is king, and since you went through the trouble to get the data on those stones, I can tell you're interested in getting the best cut quality you can in their inventory.

Thanks for your input. If you have to pick between this two which one will you go with?

Wow so I take that they are that bad quality. Thanks again.

These two are just that poorly cut. Tiffany is really not known for cut quality. And if you're paying that much money, get the best they have.

Keep looking through their inventory, see what else they can find for you in the budget/size range and we can keep sorting for one with better cut quality.

Cheat Sheet:
limit the selection of round brilliant cut diamonds which they offer to me so that all of the diamonds are within the following range of proportions:
Total depth between 59 – 61.8%
Table diameter between 53 – 57%--Ideally 55-57.
Crown angle between 34.3 – 34.9 degrees
Pavilion angle between 40.6 – 40.9 degrees
Girdle thickness between thin to medium, faceted (bruted isn't bad, but faceted would be better)
Culet size: none

When you're dealing with a table of 53-54, you want the depth to be in the 59-60 range, not the 61-62 range. I harp on the 55 because it's RIGHT in the middle of the range, and sometimes a 56. The middle of the range is PERFECT, and is always talked about as the perfect table number.

The angles mentioned in degrees are a range, obviously you're going to have interplay, so there's not a specific ratio there. You have to see what the numbers on each stone are. There really is a bigger range of angles than that but ideally those would be great to hit.

Girdle: Bruted isn't horrible, my current stone is bruted. I LIKE Faceted better, but bruted isn't a horrible thing.

Sweet spot is a 55% table, with a depth of around 59.5-60%, with a crown angle of 34.5 degrees and a pavilion of 40.7-40.8 degrees.

Thanks for all the great input. What about pear shape diamond do you also have the cheat sheet? Do you recommend buying diamond from bluenile?

There's no cheat sheet for fancies. Those are a whole different animal and you need to see those.

I don't usually recommend Blue Nile because they don't have images of the actual stones shown on their website. That is a vital part of buying online, so you can see the plot, and not rely on paper. For a DBTY style I usually recommend Brian Gavin because they do a great bezel, it looks identical or near identical to Tiffany. It's non-returnable though bec it would be considered custom. So keep that in mind. But the diamond would be spectacular.

Brian Gavin, I do like their dbty with the bead chain. I think that is a bit diff. I did not think you can customize the diamond online right? You have to call them.

You can do all of it online. Don't have to call them.

But none of them come with the diamond, you select that yourself. These are JUST the necklace part:

They offer a couple options. This is the Barbara style:

And then there's the fixed version which is like the Tiffany one:

They also have the bead chain version.

If you're happier with Tiffany, keep looking for another one that is better cut. If not, you can keep looking with BGD.
