Thoughts on Chanel lambskin: would you get them? Any reviews on wear and tear?

I have 7 lambskin bags and I do feel lamb is way more delicate than caviar. My lambskin bags all have scratches and some can't be buffed out. You will have to baby your lambskin bags for sure. Lambskin nowadays is not the same as lambskin in vintage bags so people need to stop saying lambskin is not delicate. It is delicate, unless its vintage.
Some vintage lambskin is quite delicate too, I think it depends on the batch.

It's skin, none will ever be the same! But I don't agree that only vintage is hearty, considering I don't own vintage and mine are all as durable as any other skin, including my caviar.
I agree nothing is absolutely 100% but these recent lamb bags are not as durable as before. I bought about 10 bags these past 2 years and had to return/sell 3 due to low quality of leather. One had creases all over, one had black dots front and back, one was so matte that it felt so rough and the pores were so big you could see them without a telescope. I love lambskin more than caviar but to me lambskin (nowadays) is definitely not as durable as other people say. One day I was wearing my mini top handle 21K, my son pulled it and put his one toy inside. It all happened for about 5 seconds but I found some scratches outside and inside. I tried to buff but some won't go away. So now I have deep scratch marks on the flap. He played with my coco handles or CFs in caviar and nothing happened to those bags.

Honestly feel that it's best to start with caviar BUT lambskin just feels so luxurious. IRL and in photos it just looks so glorious but yes recommended to take care some care for them for sure especially of you have long nails and wear medium to dark blue jeans a lot. But I love my caviar and lambskin the same way. <3

I love my lambskin because it is so smooth and pretty. I got it in the standard black, though I did love a sort of lavender teal special. I feel like either the caviar or the lambskin are good classic bags, but maybe if I carried it more often, I would lean more towards the caviar. I'm a bag nut; in fact, I am thinking of selling or giving away some of my huge collection--especially a lot of the vintage lucite bags I went bonkers over some years ago. I have a colorful Lady Dior tote I sort of regret purchasing; I wish I had gone with my original desire for a classic cream colored leather.

I love chanel lamb skin. i agree with @Swanky, in that my modern bags are pretty durable. I’ve also owned lots of chanel throughout the years, and I don’t find this enormous gulf in quality that others do. I’m not a fan of caviar.

My mom bought my first lambskin bag and mini belt bag from the boutique in 1990. (The mini belt bag hardware had to be replaced at least five times by the boutique, but the lamb skin was perfect). I bought chanel lamb skin until about 2008 (and didn’t see much difference in quality, until I switched to mainly Hermes.

my most recent boutique purchase wasn’t lamb but an so balck mini chevron reissue, but it’s also basically the same chanel quality as my older bags. Just my experience and YMMV

I have had my Chanel classic chain in lamb skin for about 30 year. (OMG I am old) I bought it at Neiman Marcus when I was 18 for like $900+tax. I still love it and I think it still looks awesome! Lamb skin in not as easy as caviar but it’s not like rice paper. If you have a halfway decent cobbler, he can polish it for you. You want proof, take a look at my old lady friend. I do not baby my bags. My cambon messenger bag still looks good too. I changed out the strap to make it more functional.

I 100% agree with you. I remember there was a big hysteria regarding Chanel lamb skin bags but from my experience, my older lamb skin absolutely looks better than my caviar bags. I think people hated the box calf leather in Hermes too. I own Togo and Box calf and I gotta say I like the box calf because it weighs so much less than my Togo or clemence bags. I guess people have a preference.
