Thoughts on Chanel lambskin: would you get them? Any reviews on wear and tear?

Judging from vintage and the newer lamb I've seen. It really depends on how each bag is made and how you use it or take care of it. Personally I won't ever own any lambskin. But they do look nice.

Chanel decided to make stop production of caviar minis because
1. Caviar is more durable
2. People were choosing mini over small because it was cheaper alternatives.
3. If people start getting lambskin bags it would wear and tear faster and then hopefully you'd go back to buy from them.

Caviar usually looks immaculate even after 30years.

I found out a lot of biz do this. Old stuff seem to work for a long time and newer gadgets just.. disappoints.

Back to chanel minis, if you really love either lamb/caviar, just go with your heart and don't settle for something you don't really want.

Good luck ladies!

Very true. My husband told me that German cars like BMW back in the day were built to last; nowadays, definitely not, issues will start coming up when one is around the 40,000-50,000 mile mark. Agree that now things are built in a way to be relatively temporary so that we'll have to buy it again in the future.

Unless I have a change of lifestyle/life habits, I probably will never buy a lambskin bag. I do not baby my bags and I can be pretty rough with them (like putting them on the floor) My bags will graze furniture or a door when I'm walking by, as in, I'm not the most careful person if I'm being honest with myself.

Something to consider: I have seen from Chanel reviews that it's much easier to take care of a lambskin bag with a top handle, because when you're carrying it top handle, it easier to prevent the bag from hitting something. While wearing it crossbody gives a higher risk of brushing against something, including your own body when you move.

I love lamb!!!! Lamb age well IMHO over caviar! caviar once those pebbly texture sand down with wear, it will never be pebbly again. Best of both worlds are distress leather! Lamb develop yummy glossy patina that just looks & feel so luxurious! Go with what you love, eventually you will acquire all leather types :graucho:
I do want to add, from my own experience chanel small, medium and even jumbo have tad a bit better quality over minis ( structure, stitching ect)

Same as above. I do not baby my lambskin bags. My ysl lamb is more delicate feeling than my chanel lamb. Any little scratch easily rubs out. I just make sure not to wear if rain is the forecast or I know it will be hard to keep clean, like my kids sports games. But I have plenty of LV bags for those occasions.

I did get a mini because I feel it's small enough that it won't get dinged up too easily. Also you can at least buff away some of the scratches on lambskin. I took my boy caviar woc out a handful of times and I already rubbed the edges of the flap somehow. I was pretty upset over that and since it's caviar, once it's scratched, it's scratched.... luckily it's just the edge. Granted, I don't think I'd get a light colored lambskin bag, but I think the darker colored ones in a small form factor is fine.

Editing to add - it barely rains where I'm at so I don't really take that into consideration. I guess if I lived somewhere rainy then I probably would stay away from lambskin lol.

Just wanted to chime in here. I used to think that lambskin was a hard no for me too. However, several years ago I bought the Chanel lambskin fanny bag / belt bag. I don't think it was made in anything other lambskin at that point so I bought it and have used it as my everyday bag running errands, etc. Besides some wrinkling from daily wear, it is in great condition - no defects, scratches, etc. to the leather at all! I beat up my bags pretty good (sorry to say) but I never wanted to be the kind of person to buy and admire something, regardless of how much I paid for it - I want to USE it and LOVE it! Life is just too short... so now I'm a "convert". If I see a Chanel lambskin bag I love I would consider it (whereas before I'd just say no - no matter how much I loved it!). PS Don't mind the impromptu pic - bag could use a good wipe down/clean, I guess. Been too busy running after my 4-year old :)
