With a lovely gift from a lovely MollyO, too!

The weather is going gray and windy, so I may not get out for a bit.... :rain:

Thanks! The weather has been quite sunny thankfully as the storms pass far out at sea. Ignacio is sending high surf and some wind.... no rain though, and it is getting really hot and humid again. ugh.

I picked up the mors scarf ring sometime in the last couple years, but never seem to use it. I think the pochette from MollyO makes a great wrist accessory though, such great colors! It makes me want to look for more. My folding and tucking and one-handed tying skills need work though. :p

Here's Courage sitting pretty!

Enjoy! Looks great on you! So glad you escaped the storms!

Okay... here we go to start! Happy Labor Day!

I went "holo-holo" a little bit this morning, and wound up at the top of Lahaina. At the top of the road is Lahainaluna High School, which, established in 1831, is the oldest school west of the Rockies.

Since it is a holiday, the school gates were closed, so no going on campus today. Here is a picture of the town below. The island you see in the distance is Lanai.

School is back in session... here's the administration building and parking lot, with the old cafeteria off to the left. Big old african monkeypod, royal palms, and mango trees... the campus is around 125 acres and on the side of a mountain. Lots of hills and stairs! It's a gorgeous, if exhausting, walk around campus.

If anyone has been following the news in Hawaii about the hurricanes and El Nino... a side effect is loss of our trade winds and high humidity. Most campuses, like Lahainaluna, in the state are older and DO NOT have airconditioning and temps inside the classrooms are in the upper 80s and 90s, before even adjusting for increased "feel" due to humidity. Many buildings would need to upgrade their electrical system in order for AC to be installed. The state DOE is looking into photovoltaic and solar powered AC, but estimates for installation are crazy high. Some local businesses and parents are donating fans, AC units, etc to help alleviate the problems. Teachers and students are having health issues due to heat and dehydration, it's a real concern currently.

Amazing post, Junkenpo! Courage is really a beautiful bangle! I love that big tree in front of the school. I just came back from Hawaii last week. We were at Kauai and Big Island for 2 weeks. We had an amazing time! Here's a picture of one of the huge trees I saw at Kailua-Kona. I hope to someday go to the other islands too! I'm glad the hurricanes didn't hit any of the islands! We were getting all the emergency alerts when we were there but that didn't stop us from enjoying our last few days at the island. Anyway, I am looking forward to more pictures of Courage! I've been neglectful, so I'm making it a point to take Courage with me shopping and trying to consider what other interesting aspects of living in Hawaii there are....

So, here's what you see walking into the Long's (CVS) Drug store. Spam Musubi, other wrap and cone sushis, etc.

LOL

And we love our Spam enough here that at it sells as a breakfast item at McDonald's too. Eggs, Spam, and Rice. "Local Deluxe Breakfast," it's called. Chocolate is not the only thing that goes with macadamia nuts, too. Pan fry spam to crispy, yum.

This weekend was the annual County Fair. Rides, games, and food booths run by local schools and non-profits as fundraisers.

Chicken Katsu plate with 2 scoops rice.
