Hi All!
I bought a really pretty blue Jacket from TRR. I think it is the color Atlantique (based on the year code and what I could find on the colors used during this time frame). Excellent price and in excellent condition. Problem is it smells really old. And, of course, the leather is dry.
Does anyone have ideas how to get rid of the old, musty smell? I am debating wether to keep it or send it back. My nose is really sensitive to smells. I think if I use a leather conditioner, it might help. But I don’t want to alter the jacket unless I am sure I am keeping it.
Any ideas appreciated!

Well it definitely looks amazing & is a perfect fit on you! Regarding the smell......if you got a great deal maybe you can air it out somehow to get rid of the smell.....there is some great info here on the forum on how to get rid of bag smells which I'm sure would work with a jacket too.

Thank you for your response. I have been airing it out and the whole room smells like the jacket. I think I am better off looking for a new one with the nice leather smell.

I have always found odours impossible to get out of leather. I’ve tried everything ever written and it just does not work. You either have to return it or send it to a professional leather cleaner

Thanks for this. I purchased another one in the past that had a strong dry cleaning smell. That was pretty bad , too. I am not having luck with second hand Bal jackets.

Hi! I'm not sure if you have already decided to return it or not, but little silica gel packs have worked really well for my leather bags. I put 2-3 inside of them and zip them up and wait a few weeks. With this jacket, if I had it and were to keep it, I would put one pack in each pocket and a few under the jacket zipped and pack it in a box with more gel packs in the box. LOL! It would be a lot of effort, but just an idea. It fits you really well!

Hi everyone!
Hope this message finds you all healthy & happy
I know its the middle of summer — hardly moto weather! - but I wanted to share something only you ladies (and gents!) can appreciate

After years of weight gain, I finally decided to part ways with all of my smaller sized jackets, which included my most prized possession of all - 2007 black. Finding an 07 Biscuit in my now larger size (as well as few other unicorns) was a nice consolation, but I still yearned for that 07 black leather!

Well FF one year and even though its not quite the size I was hoping to find it is larger than the one I had & I couldn’t pass it up. It arrived yesterday after some high drama (story to follow!) and looks like it was hardly ever worn. Its not nearly as faded and “green” as my previous jacket & there doesn’t seem to be much wear anywhere. When I put it on it felt a little too snug, but I wore it around the house all evening last night and by the time I took it off, it felt like it had stretched almost a full size! (now I have an incentive to drop a few more pounds!!). The leather is as velvety soft as I remember (Biscuit is pillowy soft, but doesn’t have that velvety feel that the black does)

Took a few pics trying to capture all that wonderfulness that is 07 leather — hope you all enjoy!

Yes, I did that with the silica packets. I also shoved Bounce dryer sheets in the arms. I think my sense of smell is more sensitive than most. That’s too bad, because this jacket is really pretty. Still deciding what to do.

Love popping in and out of this thread some amazing motos ladies. I one owned the 2009 navy and totally regret selling I got it at an amazing price too new from Balenciaga as they messed up an order and was glitch with price if I remember right.
Anyway the red balenciaga I bought last year I’m still trying to pin point the correct colour. I wondered if any of you lovey ladies could help?

the colour code on label if I’m right is 3210. I may let go of her to hunt a navy again it’s like a brick red colour?

I will pop in photos of label. Also I just realised as it’s been so long since I owned a moto but the zippers on the sleeve I noticed the ‘B’ on cuff zippers are too the back where as the others the ‘B’ looks out if that makes sense. Is this how they should be?
Xxx
I love red jackets. This one is a really nice shade.

i recently got a pale pink (not sure of the color name) 2013 bal leather jacket from TRR that is in amazing condition except it also smells very musty (it was under $350 with a promo code so maybe i should have realized something was up...). i was very disappointed coz i've purchased a few other bal leather jackets from TRR and none of them smelled. (i also have a really sensitive sense of smell.)

ages ago i bought an isabel marant jacket from vestiaire collective that absolutely stank of cigarette smoke and a horrible musty odor. i did manage to get the odor out of the isabel marant jacket by filling it up with dryer sheets and putting it in a closed trash bag for about a week, and then using a spray bottle of vodka on it multiple times over about a week or two until the smell was gone (first i tried white vinegar but i could still smell the vinegar after it dried so i switched to vodka - i was worried the vodka would damage the fibers but vestiaire wouldn't accept my return so i figured i might as well try it, and i haven't noticed any damage after using the vodka spray). i've been tempted to try the vodka spray on the pink bal but i'm worried it'll ruin the jacket (the isabel marant jacket was black and not leather but i'm not sure of the material).

for the time being i put the bal jacket in a trash bag with an open box of baking soda (scrape off the top of the baking soda once a day or every other day to remove the part with the odor), pressed all the air out of the bag, and tied it shut. i can't return the jacket so hopefully after a week or two there will be some improvement. i've also read kitty litter (the clay kind), activated charcoal, and newspaper work well (i'm tempted to try the newspaper since i read that's what some vintage sellers do but i don't know how i'd avoid getting ink on the light pink leather).

lovinmybags.com sells "odor out bag candies" that are supposed to work well for cigarette smoke but i don't know if they work on other odors. LMB also has some kind of "in-house ozone treatment" that's supposed to get rid of a variety of stronger odors but i'm not sure how well it works or if they even accept leather jackets (i messaged them to ask but haven't heard back yet).

Thanks for the suggestions!
Your jacket sounds really nice - too bad it smells.
I couldn’t take the smell anymore. It made the whole room smell like old, musty clothing. I sent it back instead of trying to deal with old leather smell. I would much rather spend more and have that lovely new leather smell!
I will wait until the end of the year to revisit a Bal leather jacket. It’s a bit too warm right now.

Hi all, could you please help me authenticate this jacket? Thanks so much for any help!! xx

Looks like a 2010 tempete - in perfect condition ( wow!) but that price?!
geez. If they’re still fetching that I might even be tempted to part with one of mine!! ( or maybe not lols)
I never had the tempete from this season so I don’t have the intel on leather and fit but I think it’s a more structured feel than some of the older ones?

Thanks so much!! How much do you think is a fair price?

Hi oh look I think if you really want it pay what you can afford! Back in the day we all paid this kind of money but as far as I can tell now they’re not holding their prices and for This reason I’ve held onto mine.
there would be others here who could be more accurate but I think sellers do well to get anything over $1000 these days?
