I have a pebbled black Margaux 12 and also a black B30 so interestingly I’m in exactly the same situation so hopefully can help. I’m 5’3 however so a fair bit shorter. For what it’s worth, the strap on the 12 isn’t that useful to me because the bag is quite bulky and so doesn’t look quite right either as a shoulder or crossbody - it is exclusively top handle held, for me.

It does not get as slouchy as the 15, which I see as a bonus since I don’t really like it when the larger Margaux bags flop about too much. It is much lighter than my B30 and while I still occasionally wonder if I should sell it since it really is quite similar to my B30 in size (and they’re both black), they do have different vibes and the Margaux is much more under the radar, which in certain situations I prefer. The pebbled leather is also beautifully soft to the touch and I love that. It’s a wonderful everyday bag if you like top handle or crook of the elbow bags.

Happy to answer any questions! I don’t regret getting the 12, but because you’re a bit taller, the 15 might be more proportional.

Thanks!! 😘 You. Are. Amazing!!!
Yes, that’s exactly it. I don’t carry my B30 out often so I think this would be more suitable in some situations. I have 2 young kids so I find having a shoulder strap means I can keep my hands free. I’m thinking the same, I have a black B30 so maybe I should get the Margaux in a different colour.

I might just let my SA know that I am interested in both sizes in maybe a grey or darker colour other than black in either the 12 or 15 and see what the universe decides 😂

I definitely recommend getting the Margaux in a different colour if your B30 is already black - I myself am still kicking myself that I missed out on that glorious jam colour!! Also yes if you don’t take the B30 out often because you worry about it being too “flashy” or similar, the Margaux is an amazing alternative.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you end up getting!!

The Margaux has been on my wish list on and off since the 12 was released. It's a two step forward one step back situation lol! There are other wish list items that I've ended up with instead. I don't know if I'll pull the trigger but if I do I will definitely post an update. The jam colour is divine! Appreciate your help ;)

I'm contemplating the pebbled leather Margaux and have some questions. How do we know what colours are available? I can only see dark taupe and black online but I've seen other colours in the thread or online.

I'm torn between the 12 and the 15. I like the versatility of the strap with the 12 but not sure if it's going to be too small on my 5'8" frame. I have a B30 and it might be too similar in size (although I don't carry her too often so maybe the 12 would be a better everyday alternative)? I love the slouchiness of the 15 but am afraid it's too big for everyday use? Does anyone have a pebbled leather 12 and can comment on whether or not it gets slouchy like the 15?

TIA!
I have the 15 and the 12- 15 in Cuir and 12 in black - both smooth leather. I actually do use the strap on the 12 and find it great for me personally and feel like both bags soften, though agree that 12 appears more structured. It really depends on what you would want to use it for-but do think the 15 offers more "punch" and I can carry my 13 inch Mac or probably even a 15 inch- can't do that with the 12. The 12, though, is great for every day- and yes I do squeeze my 15 over the shoulders at times.

You have a very effortless way of carrying your bags so they always look good on you

you definitely make it very effortless. Thank you for the comments and the pictures!! 🥰
Both sizes look so good on you! I feel like there's a place for both bags but it's not in the cards for me. I am looking for something everyday.

I have a couple of larger bags that can fit my laptop and I use for work so maybe the 12 would be more suitable overall but then I see pictures of the 15 and I swoon and debate all over again

For everyday- the 12. For sure! Or not the Margaux. TR has some cool options, but if set on Margaux try and find the 12. Pebbled is less stressful to maintain but I’m obsessed with the smooth leather.

I pre-ordered my Astra bag in brown last month and it’s due to be delivered late this month.

The proportions of the Blake hobo I had in elephant wasn’t quite right for me. And I didn’t need another pouch.

Has anyone else ordered one or maybe even has one. Thoughts?

It’s a lovely lightweight no-frills bag in a classic shape.

I saw it at the Row on Madison a few weeks ago, but wasn’t able to take a picture since they don’t allow you to photograph in the boutique.

I wanted to view and handle both Astra and Ray bags.

My impression- it’s smaller than I thought but would work well as a truly under the radar fair weather everyday bag. I would describe sizing as a smaller-medium bag. The leather is exactly as described - buttery soft goatskin. However, since it’s so soft, there’s no structure and it would puddle easily. A truly huggable smooshy bag. The handle drop is long enough for comfortable shoulder carry.

Okay… now about those handles and zippers…the bag does not appear to be designed to hold really heavy items and the zip closure is a bit flimsy for my taste. I’m hard on my bags because you have to be when you carry the whole world everyday when you step outside of the apartment in my city. I got the feeling that the shoulder handles would give way after a year’s worth of use. The shoulder straps are also quite slender which reinforced my belief that I could easily break/tear the bag 🧐.

When I exited I told my best friend that I would spend a little more for the smaller (and hardier?) Ray.

Please don’t let me dissuade you from possibly adoring the bag because it fits your lifestyle! I would love to hear what you think of Astra when you get it!!

Thanks so much for all the info, it’s really helpful. My friend does auto interiors on specialist cars and is a leather expert. Apart from telling me I’m overpaying all the time he does like TR leather. He did say this leather was thin but durable, waterresistant but prone to eventual stretching, just like you’ve said.

I don’t expect bags to last forever but I don’t want the bag and handles twice as long in a year or two 🤣

I can’t remember the Ray but there was another bag I liked that came in dark blue which is another one on the “to get” list. Off to check it out …

Will definitely update here when I get it and thanks again.
