Congratulations on getting your first Pandora!.

I see you have had enjoyed Pandora for eight years and wonder if you can share your thoughts on safety chains. I researched on it extensively and the opinion is so diverse. Is it necessary (I read so much about the clip on chains uncliping and the screw on chains coming loose)? Not to mention the chains getting caught on something, tangling, snapping etc.

Or will just clips at both ends of the braclet suffice? Thank you in advance for sharing your experience.

I have 3 pandora basic barrel clasp bracelets and i've put safety chains on each of them. To me, there are a few pros and i don't see any cons against having a safety chain.

Firstly, the bracelet is easy to put on and when i didn't have the chain it was driving me mad to put the bracelet on.

Then, many people put clips on each end of the bracelet to prevent beads fron screwing off. In my opinion safety chain looks much nicer. I have bot screw-on and clip on safety chains and i had no problem with either of those coming off. For the look, i prefer twist-on chains

I just can't see why ppl don't want to invest in the chains. I just can't justify it

I know right, I started only yesterday but my mind is already spinning ahead to think of a black and red travel theme, a pink and purple floral theme and my initial love theme that I just got. I bought the Mouse in Cup, White Daisy Clip, Easter Bunny and You & Me Dangle. Got the moments bracelet complimentary. I initially wanted the essence beads but prefer the look of the moments collection instead, as the former were slightly small on my wrist. I am 5"9 with huge bones.

Exactly! There's so many options, your ideas sound good! Ah nice choices :) I have the mouse on my fairytale bracelet, he's so cute! Yeah I agree with you, plus I like having little objects rather than decorative ones, I get very attached to them.

You said it right. I am already getting very attached with the little charms on my bracelet as they represent ny loved ones. :)

Well, I close my bracelets just fine (even my brand new one)
I don't like dangles, and I won't like to have a dangling chain.
I have clips on both ends of my bracelet to prevent charms to go on the screws.
I don't like the designs of the chains.

I get it, that some people don't like dangles and don't put them on their bracelets. I'm not the biggest fan of them either, have 3 on one of my bracelets, and haven't put any on my other ones. Yet, i have safety chains on all of them. If someone is totally against putting any sort of dangly stuff on their bracelets, that's fine. However if someone doesn't mind dangles, i would advise putting safety chain on the bracelet. And honestly, putting on bracelets without safety chains is a tad more tricky - yet totally managable. Safety chains do help

This is my honest opinion. I think having a safety chain on, the screw on type is pretty and makes the bracelet look finished. It hides the threads near the barrel and just looks so much nice with than without. The chain on my safety chain does twist around the bracelet sometimes but it's never got caught and snapped, so I can't say this would happen. Its easy to unravel when this happens. I don't know how much of a safety feature this would be. Its does make it easy to put the bracelet on and to take off. I think it's down to luck whether you would lose a bracelet or not. I think if it's going to snap or come off, you would either be able to feel it come off, or you won't feel it and you won't have a clue where you have lost it. Probably a safety chain won't make that much difference. The safety chain could snap itself so it's purely down to a bit of luck. I think people who buy a safety chain buy it for both reasons; one because it looks nice, and two because they think it will prevent them from losing their bracelet. The clasp/barrel itself is very sturdy and would hold the bracelet just fine I think. You could have a clip on the end of the bracelet to prevent the charms from rolling off when you take the bracelet off, but I don't particularly like this look. I think it's a bit odd to have a clip on the end, but I know plenty of people here who like that, and that's just fine. If you aren't sure, you should try one on and perhaps go for a shorter chain.:D

I like dangles and have a few on mine, but I personally wouldn't have a bracelet full of them. I prefer the normal beads with perhaps 2 or 3 dangles on a full bracelet. I think they can look really pretty. A bracelet full of dangles remind me of the old fashioned charm bracelets and that isn't really the look any more. However with the beauty of Pandora, people can accustom their bracelet to whatever style they like.

Sharing my first bracelet here. My theme is Love and each charm represents my family members. Easter bunny for my Mum, Mouse in Cup for my child, You & I dangle for me and my husband. I love the white daisy clip so got this one but I love the shimmering rose clip that will be launched for mother's day in April. Intend to get it too.

How about you? are you eyeing anything from the Mother's Day collection next month?

That's really pretty, great choice of charms.

I got this charm a couple of weeks ago. I wanted a dangle to even out my bracelet and love going to the theatre and one of my favourite shows was Swan Lake. I thought this was cute and it was half the price.

Weighing in on safety chains, it's really personal preference. I have clips on my ends to keep the charms from unscrewing, I've never had a safety chain. A safety chain will save your bracelet in the event the clasp breaks; if the bracelet breaks anywhere else, the safety chain won't help.

We have had several customers who have lost their bracelets, they always want safety chains. However, many of them don't know how or where they lost them. I will probably get one of the new Disney safety chains, and I'll try that out to see if I like it or not

Like every shared before me, I think too that it does mostly come down to personal choice.

When I first read about safety chains I thought that I had to get one, but then Leann from Charms Addict wrote how she doesn't believe they're necessary because the clasp is pretty sturdy, and like others said, I think it comes down to luck whether or not a bracelet will snap or open randomly. But a safety chain does help when taking OFF a bracelet, because it stops it from flying off my wrist and smashing on something or falling to the floor when I unsnap it, especially a full, heavy bracelet.

Also, if by chance the clasp does open, I think the safety chain might give us a chance of feeling it happen. The safety chain might hold it on for those extra few seconds or minute until we notice that something is wrong. If the bracelet snaps however, I don't think a safety chain is going to help anyone at all.

And lastly for me, I love the look of a safety chain, I think it gives it that edgy look that goes great with a silver bracelet and, like Tabitha said, it gives it a finished and balanced look.

At the store, whilst determining my bracelet size, it is indeed so much easier to slip on a full bracelet with a safety chain. I agree it gave the bracelet a finished look. I guess being new to Pandora, I did find it slightly tricky to put it on myself. Just realised the chains come in different lengths, guess a visit to the store is warranted. Hope I won't be tempted (it's hard) by anything else. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. :)
