Thanks all ... I'm so glad to see some new folks in the "oldies" Club; was beginning to wonder if folks were still into them, but I feel reassured now! :yahoo:

Thanks Silverfern and Jira :flowers:.

CeeJay - I have just been lurking so far - newer thought I would be fortunate enough to own one. But I am, and it won't be the only one I'm sure . They are fantastic - I have stopped looking for newer Bbags - just into the old ones now - also makes the hunt more exciting ;).

My Le Dix (Gold Tag) FBF ... isn't she pretty?!?! :p:graucho:

"New" owners to oldies:
Did you have any concerns buying a 6-7 year old bag? I mean, they are lovely etc, but I'm soooo worried about one breaking up (studs falling, colour fading, corners wearing super fast, leather turning dry/crackly etc) on me once I own it due to it's age.

"Old" owners to oldies:
How r your bags holding? Fading, wearing? Leather thinning etc?

Thanks!

Juzluvpink, the most important thing is to ask for a lot of pictures. The seller of my 2003 was very honest and took pics of all the details. When you get all the details you need you can't really be surprised. It was even better than expected, because I can't really notice the worn corners in real life, while it was really noticeable on the pictures (because of the zoom). If you know all the details, then it's just a matter of price. ;)

French75, I'm more concern of how the bag will hold after I buy it. It may looks fine when I see pix or e bag itself but I'm afraid it'll just disintegrate after I buy it.

juzluvpink - my oldies hold up really well, probably even better than my newer bags, possibly because they're already "tried and tested" and have proven that they stand the test of time. I wouldn't get an old, ratty oldie.. but the minty ones hold up really well.

Thanks MichK, I'm just concerned since it's not a cheap bag and if it "dies" on me within months I'll be so sad. It's something I really have to think carefully. But I agree that older bag leathers feels real buttery!

I completely agree! The majority of my Balenciaga collection is oldies from '01-'05 and I bought most all of them secondhand. Some were nice and minty for their age but others were already well worn (like the F/W '02 Black Suede w/ pewter hardware I've been carrying lately...I take her out when I don't want to worry about my bag ;o)

Even after daily carriage for the last few years these oldies of mine are holding up really well. There are minor signs of use if you look closely, but I've never had a real problem with any of my oldies. Nothing falling apart or changing much at all.

Actually, I think back in the day they were actually crafted by people and not as mass produced so you got better quality overall. The leather seems to be a higher grade and the dye may be more deeply saturated into the hide and everything about them is just more handcrafted and special, IMO.

I wouldn't be afraid of an oldie falling apart on you unless it was treated improperly, like hand-lotion applied to remove the "veiny" distressing or set to bake in the sun or something like that.

Typically, in my experience, many early bags end up sleeping in someone's closet for 5+ years and then they are rediscovered there during a deep cleaning and sold since if they haven't been missed in all that time they aren't likely to get carried until they find a new home.

If you love the way the leather feels, have no fear and love that oldie bag!
