I agree with @pheebspurse & @DAMER that the Hammock is an incredibly easy and versatile bag to use. I personally prefer it as a shoulder carry, but it does work well as a crossbody. And yes, despite the large opening, your items remain secure inside while carrying it. I've had mine for over 2 years now and it's still looking great. It has a few minor scratches on the bottom, nothing super noticeable because I don't baby it. I believe some of the earlier versions had feet, so if you went the preloved route, that may not be an issue at all.

I even enjoy carrying it with the side flaps out. It's not as easy to carry as shoulder/crossbody, but it sure makes an interesting silhouette and a great conversation starter. Truly a unique piece.

I've used it once for long haul travel and countless on commute/ city trips. There's actually a hook inside to keep the bag folded close like a dumpling (although I rarely use it), but if I were to wear it crossbody, the opening somewhat 'closes' itself (Pic attached for reference). I feel unless you live/ commute in somewhere 100% unsafe, I would say that I got through crowds mostly fine bcs a) the bag stick to me most of the time, it's not the typical crossbody where it moves around and b) nobody knows that it's an open-top due to the design, the opening folds close to the hip and therefore appeared 'close' to untrained eyes. If I want to be extra safe, I'll clip my wallet to the hook inside the bag (like the extra pouch inside a Neverfull)

For flights, I had a bit of hack using the Uniqlo drawstring bag to store the bag whenever it's being scanned, put on the floor, to be extra sure nothing spill out! Once I know my bag will be with me, I pop it back out and shove the uniqlo bag inside the Hammock (as an extra shopping bag)

I think the main thing about this bag that I like is that, apart from the design and quality, I could operate without looking at my bag. There's two wall pockets inside the bag that's so practical to take the metrocard in and out, side zippered pocket for keys, and the whole space to fit kindle, mini lunch box, A4 papers at one point, and the open top doesn't restrict any of that. All that practical aspects while having the bag still looking nice and put together. Truly my holy grail bag if you ask me!

(Ps. strap could also be adjusted to carry it as a shoulder bag!)
I love your bag’s color. It looks to be the same shade of blue that my puzzle is in. Is it steel blue?

Aww thanks, I believe I still have the tags from when I bought it and it says Indigo! It does look identical though and IIRC with the puzzle it comes with palladium hardware (?) Mine is with gold instead. Truly a stunning shade of blue regardless of the hardware!

I also think that the leather part adds a bit more structure to the bag and I like that it can be used crossbody or shoulder (don't think I'm gonna use it in that folded style they also show on the website)

I got a compact hammock from the last studio ghibli collab after eyeing the style for years and I love it. It’s a little wider and more open than my usual bags but luckily safety isn’t an issue where I live. It fills a gap in my wardrobe and I don’t think there will ever be another bag on the market quite like it. I really like the multiple carrying options and how the bag looks completely different depending on how you carry it. Get it if you love how it looks and can see yourself using it!

I have the small. It’s beautiful but the closure is odd. it is definitely a tough bag to be using because it is pretty open so I do not feel that my items inside are very secure. It does look beautiful on.

Has anyone seen this in-person? A flatter hammock style with no wings? I started seeing this pop up on dept store website like saks, neiman, etc.
Just saw this on BG, and I don’t like it. It looks plain without the wings. It looks a little too basic for me. I like the OG hammock because the design stands out.

I didn't think I’d like the mellow calfskin compact hammock as much as I do, my SA had to talk me into it and I’m glad she did. The leather is soft feeling and pliable like the smooth calfskin, visually finished similar to a satin calf but without the stiffness of the satin’s waxy top layer. The leather is backed with the canvas where you can see the weave thru the leather panels.

The diamond shape when the hammock is pulled together is what appealed about all the other hammocks but with the canvas wings it seems like a satchel/cross-body carry only. The diamond shape is also different than other hammocks - see comparison to the Suna Fujita panda. I like that it (and the Matsumoto hammock) are different adaptations of the hammock, that it’s an effective/secure crossbody, and that the leather feels so nice.

I am new to the hammock. Came across this style a while ago and couldn’t forget it. I went preloved and what can I say- it’s a very, very unique and versatile bag and I believe, this will stay with me a very long time. I love how cool and stylish it can look. I even don’t mind the wide opening- I was very concerned after watching some videos. But well, I can keep my wallet or cards in the side pocket, keys go in the inside side pocket and the rest will be in the big compartment. It’s an easy bag for my town where I live in. But I would not likely take it for city trips abroad. But that’s fine. Looove it ❤️
