First up is my alternative to the waterfall. I use an elongated Edot knot. I didn’t invent this one, but it’s one of the first structured knots I learned how to do, and I was very proud of myself for mastering it. It has the added benefit of looking complicated, but actually being fairly simple to do. Fold in a triangle, pleat one of the sides, then without letting go of the pleats, pass the other end behind your neck and knot it around the pleated part. I’ve seen great tutorials that use a chain d’ancre to secure it, but I actually find the knot to be easier. It also stays put ALL day (unlike with the chaine d’ancre, which I find tends to loosen and slip).

Here's what the basic Edot looks like. You can separate the pleats to make it more ruffled, like I did below. It’s a GREAT knot for showing off fancy hems!

And if you pull the pleated tail downwards you get this effect:

You can get it even closer to the waterfall if you mess it up a little:

And there you have it - a similar look to the waterfall, but I can actually get it looking right every time (plus it stays put)!

Edited to add, here’s a nice short video tutorial from A Passion for Elegance showing how to do the Edot with a chain d’ancre:

Sharing what has to be one of my most used, easiest knots. This is a good one for featuring a favourite quadrant of a design. I don’t have a name for it.

It is heavily inspired by Fifi’s Octopus knot: after my many failed attempts to make an octopus with a chain d’ancre, I gave up and tried to achieve something similar with a ring. I prefer a regate for this, but any similarly sized round scarf ring will work.

I'm not sure a tutorial is necessary, and I should have picked a more neutral background, but here’s a step-by-step for it.

1. Fold scarf in half.
2. Wrap around shoulders. Make sure the quadrant you want to show is facing out.
3. Take two corners from one side, and push them through a ring.
4. Take the top corner from the other side and push it through the ring in the opposite direction.
5 Adjust it slightly, so the free corner is hanging down. This will be the part of the design that is featured.
For the more visual among us:

Hope someone finds this useful. It’s super easy, adjustable so it doesn’t have to be too close to the neck, and you get to show parts of the design that are not always easy to pick up otherwise. It’s one of the few ways I’ve found to actually show the Space Derby letters. It’s also my absolute favourite for featuring the cheeky leopardess on Lazy Leopardesses! 😜

Enjoy!

I thought you may like this vid. It's from when scarves were fashionable worn as headscarves a few years ago. As you may know, I don't care what's in or out, only what's on me

These are some good ideas:

My knot is not among the ones shown. To do the knot I wore yesterday (29 Aug)

This will work with a high pony tail or piled-up hair (or short hair)

Very simply and easily (and even more simple than the usual flower knot usually worn at the neck).

1. Fold 90 into a triangle

2. Take the points and just tie a single knot

3. Place the knot (it should look like a flower-knot but looser, less symmetrical) at the front of the head in front of your post-tail or up-do.

4. Tie the ends to the back in a double knot.

5. You can either leave the tail to the back out or tuck them in

6. Adjust anything you don't like.

Done.

Repeated from SOTD

this knot does not have a name to my knowledge. It has been suggested to look like a bird, but also to be a version of the squid knot.
But here is my attempt at explaining my knot - which does not contain any knotting actually:

First make a triangle, drape around neck and tie/pull ends through a chain d’anchre or similar ring

Then bring the triangle from the back to the front from underneath
IMG_9077.jpeg

Then take the points of the triangle under the middle space where the scarf ends crosses in the chain d’ancre. Might take a bit of dexterity.

Pull all ends and adjust for semi-tidy look

Good luck and have fun!
