@miss_chiff
So sorry to hear you lost it.
I wouldn't say "fake", imitation and synthetic are better words. Yes, there are many such stones on the market and it is the same as bags - if it is too cheap, then it is probably not natural.

The process of hunting a gemstone is more fun than owning it :) If you shop for cats eye or star gemstone, usually you get less sharp star in person than on the pics.

I second that the emeralds as stunning gems as they are, can be the worst to take care of/wear.
A small emerald literally fell out of its setting (on a kitchen table). I managed to find it and put it away to have it fixed later. Next day I pulled out the drawer, looked at the stone and couldn’t believe it. It was literally cracked in half! I put away whole stone, took out 2 halves!
So so very fragile, and so so beautiful.

I am thrilled to let you all know that I finally made my decision and it is vintage emerald ring! I don’t have her home with me yet and she needs to be sized.
But I couldn’t wait to post pics.
First, the specs!
4.5 carat AGL and GIA certified Columbian emerald with minor/insignificant treatment.
G/H vsi 1.65 tcw surrounding diamonds set in classic platinum 1060’s ballerina style
The entire ring weighs 15 grams!
The camera absolutely cannot capture the classic Columbian pure green of this stone!
I love the ballerina style (I know a lot of ppl don’t! so no worries if you are one...I get it)
My style is also “more is more”. In other words, dainty doesn’t work on me.
She makes me feel exactly like Elizabeth Taylor when she’s on my finger so I’m calling her Liz.1766EB1B-772D-4F36-AAEA-7336DCB3331B.jpeg70403A7C-3EFF-43E2-B5BA-61BFB5F2E0E3.jpeg

Thank you all so very much.
It may be a couple weeks until I actually have her on my finger.
I need to work out the final payments!
But my jeweler is so great to work with.
As soon as I have her I will post a bunch of pictures!!!

Oh...and I need to figure out which hand to wear her on. The obvious choice is the right hand but for some reason, I’m feeling like it belongs on my left ring finger....

@miss_chiff
Its beautiful :smile:

Here some of my stones.
5.59 ct Brazilian cat eye
3.21 ct Colombian emerald
16.12 ct again Colombian stone

Hi! I’m a huge fan of Colombian emeralds, and specifically those from Muzo region (vs.Chivor). It seems you like emeralds also. If you collect stones, take a look at a Trapiche emerald. They are beautiful, a pure work of nature, and they are only found in Muzo. To me, the pieces present itself the best as a loose stone which would be perfect for a stone collector. If you are interested in Colombian emeralds, I have a great dealer who buys directly in Colombia and has both faceted emeralds as well as trapiches. I met him at the Tucson gem show, so he exhibits there too, annually.

@willeyi what insight you have on Colombian emeralds. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, as well as your connection. As I’m curious I shall research what you mentioned. Not sure where my emerald was mined. Now I’m curious.
I have non Colombian relatives that live there. It was my late Aunt that sourced the emeralds for me from her jeweler. She was always into having jewelry made and had some fabulous pieces. Really is interesting to see how different all the emeralds can be. I had three stone choices to fit in the ring. The three had different shades of green as well as slight diff cuts. Some cleaner than others. I had her take the pick of what she thought was the best one, which happened to be the smallest. Another interesting note was a show that was on once on sourcing emeralds in Colombia. How the dealer would meet with sellers. Seeing all these emeralds all together was quite something. Thanks again for sharing your info and enthusiasm.

@willeyi whoops, sorry...just saw/realized your reply was to another member. Saw my name and jumped the gun.
No worries at all... it was meant to share with anyone interested in Colombian emeralds. Wow... you know folks from Colombia! Nice!
One day, I want to go to Bogota and see all the emerald trading action. Then, maybe someone will offer to take me to see one of the mines. Dreaming of course. And yes, you are absolutely correct emeralds from the same country such as Colombia look different from the various regions. I like Muzo stones the best, they have a tiny drop of yellow and not too much blue, which to me makes them glow.
I hope you have fun with your emeralds!

If I continue to look in this thread, maybe I will buy an emerald ring or I will set one of my emeralds :)

I have emeralds from almost everywhere, except Russia and Pakistan. The gem grade Ethiopian emeralds are absolutely fantastic - grass green and very high saturation.
