Scarves ............The FALL 2017 Scarves..............

Hmmmm, apart from the scarf with the UFOs on I can't see much to tempt me here and even then I worry about the blank space in the buildings' corner. But Hermes does tend to display its more 'directional' pieces at the Press Day and there should be plenty more goodies to look forward to. I had been very tired of the persistent fashion of slapping polka dots on reissues but I find I do like that here in the bandana-style reissue of flacons. Don't get me started on the hearts..... But what is that robot thingy in the men's section????I love that!
Many lovely Bolides though. I was in the Mothership 2 days ago and there was no sign of the new season yet ( as expected) except for the technical Airsilk carry bags. I would expect most boutiques to get some (but not much) Autumn/Winter stock throughout July before the hiatus caused by the long French August holiday season.

I agree about the recent mania for polka dotting, Les Tambours. Polka dots are fine, but this is a minimally creative move, Hermes. I admit that I am not liking the abstract, angular designs that we've seen with increasing frequency. I prefer either more photo-realistic art, a la Dallet, or the rounded figures of Alice Shirley and the complex, organic shapes of Aline Honore. Though Gattoni designs are anchored by rather geometric, architectural shapes, and these are totally redeemed for me by his whimsical populations of wee humans and horsies. :p Whimsy always captures my heart.
The cynical side of me (okay, it's the majority of me) wonders if straight line based prints are easier, e.g. cheaper, to manufacture than swoops and whorls.

Looked back at the Fall2016-thread and the first posts of new scarves in the boutiques available for purchase were on June 16th, just a month from now! Also, this time last year a lot more info was available on the upcoming scarves, like names, cw's, sizes etc. No CSGM's up until now too. Some of you here are fortunate enough to buy at least half of an entire season and in my book that makes you a Scarfie-VVVIP, so you must have more intel from your SA's. Please consider sharing a bit with us? :flowers:

But okay, maybe some of you can help me with this next question. I've been looking at the pics here and am trying to figure out some of the sizes of these scarves. From the pic posted below, the scarves in front of the windows. The smallest one would be a gavroche right? Then the largest one should be a 90, as it's twice the length of the gavroche. So what does this mean for the middle-sized one? Could this be a 70? I know I've read here this size is being rested and the current season only has the geometric jacquard ones. Please enlighten me.

A liquid like the ink for the silk scarves is no respecter of straight lines over whorls and curves. In fact it's more difficult because you would notice more easily of the definition between colours was awry. It all takes manufacturing precision. I can see some of the modern styles such as this season's 70cms are playing around with colour theory which I suspect is close to M. Dumas' heart with his academic background in visual art but the thing I really see is - horror of horrors - cost control. The Bouclerie scarf this season is a reworking of a popular theme using as few silk screens as possible ( whilst still keeping it interesting enough) minimising inks and manufacturing time. Using the 'tattoo' method Hermes have succeeded this coming season in making my beloved Brandenbourgs a boring scarf - but also minimising the inks used. Faconne silk takes rather longer to manufacture but I would willingly pay a premium for a 90cm faconne in a beautiful multi-coloured design that I really fancy. They could have a go at my grail - 'Les Tambours'!
But this is no time to despair - we are only at the start of the new season and my SAs assure me there will be many lovely things. And if all else fails there are those UFOs :-)

Imo, I think those are 90, comparing the sizes of the scarfs that are tied to the rod, it seems fitting to the 90s scarves. The scarfs tied on left side are 140 scarves. One of the 140 scaves which is 'One two three & away we go' pattern is one of them. The UFO seems smaller since its futher, but its the same size as the calligraphy set scarf (sorry not sure of its name) based on the number of square window frame at their back.

But I do notice some scarves size which does not look either 90 or gavroche. So i do wonder if 70 is coming back. Like the one at the back of the appaloosa gavroche:

Thanks for your reply! No I agree on the UFO and the Calligraphy-set being the same size, that's why I pointed arrows at both of them. You must be right on the largest one in their groupings to be the 140 and therefore the mid-sized ones are 90s. But like you pointed out, that leaves me questioning the size of some other scarves. Indeed the tartan one and also the one below the 90 Calligraphy, with the navy background and yellow and red circle on it. With regards to the last one, length-wise it still appears to be half of the largest one, the 140 above it. Also, these two designs would be quite in line with the 70s of the current season, more graphic. That must be it. I obviously need more (confirmed) intel on this thread and less time on my hands :lol:.

So many graphics and squirrely designs every season - they are starting to look alike. How about more SAILBOATS, HORSES, 17th century FRENCH COSTUMES and stuff like that? LOL.
Although I very much like the Horsey here.

Yes, flowers, trees. Horses, zebras, tigers... I'm good with that. Don't ask me to think too abstractly. Oh yeah but then there was that stupid bear. Hmmm... [emoji848]

Definitely NOT 18th Century French costumes though! Quelle horreur! LOL
In all seriousness though, I do wish there were some more "old school" themes rather than graphics that as you said [and I agree] all start to look alike. This may be part of the reason that Samourais did so well this season; it brings us back to highly detailed design.

HAHAHA. I didn't buy it but I do think the bear in Grrrr. is quite cute. I think that is a love it or hate it design.

Looks like we are playing sherlock until then . Those would be perfect for 70s as you said. Else, I am fine with the 90s too . My SA is not giving any info at all! Hopefully we'll know something by next month.
