The Dumbest Reason You Ever Gave For Buying a Bag

Here’s another.

Well, if I sell this other bag and maybe that other bag, I’ll have enough money to cover this new bag….so it’s like I’m not spending anything at all.

Funny thing is, after the new bag comes, I never seem to get around to selling the other ones.

(I’m kinda embarrassed how much I’ve contributed to this thread:blush:)
Oh, no, do not be embarrassed. We’re all in this together. I’ve actually got entries in my journal that deal with this whole sell/buy/sell/buy/sell don’t buy/I’m done with buying I’m DONE. Last time, I promise. Years’ worth of LAST TIME.

Last time.

:smooch: you’re so good, @Annawakes

OK, now I gotta know what kind of bag that was ... I can "hear", in my mind's-eye, that sound of your items hitting the hallway floor, how weird is that. That must be a universal memory of all teenagers in high school. We were certainly all clumsy and not in control of ourselves.

In the past few years I've often thought of the lovely purple leather envelope bag that I carried in high school ... I'll not say how many decades that bag preceded the 'pouch' craze. I did use that as a dumb reason to get a pouch (DL's BV) but ultimately ended up with a Mansur Gavriel Cloud Clutch, and that actually worked out - love that bag (it's one of my 12*). Unfortunately, not in a color I can carry right now, in winter. Didn't love the DL version of the pouch bag (too big).

*12 - yes, I closed out on that number 12/31/21. My New Year's Resolution: No bags for 2022, don't need any more. Nope.

The purple envelope clutch sounds WONDERFUL!

The bags we carried in high school in the early 1970s were oversized, glorified knitting bags with shoulder straps. It was a crafty time. And this was part of the original boho look. They were large calico bags, usually a quilted calico in a pre-date of Vera Bradley fabric. They were usually gathered on two wooden dowels with large wooden balls on the ends, like the frames you can buy at craft stores for making knitting bags. They were wide open at the top, with long shoulder straps attached, sometimes with rings, sometimes braided, sometimes with tassels. They were big enough to carry your lunch. The only thing I can find online that's remotely similar is this on ebay, but it's smaller and lacks that puffy gathered calico look:

The bags I bought because they reminded me of high school  were by Betsey Johnson, who else? The line was called "Flower Child" aptly. They even have big wooden balls on the ends of the tassels which made me swoon. And just like in high school mom keeps asking me why I am carrying around a knitting bag. Retro heaven.

I faintly remember those bags... we're close to the same age, I was late 70s; in my small school we tended to be more tomboys (think: barrel racing) so not too many crafters. I'm remembering ... Home Ec class, I think we learned how to make a bag out of placemats. LOL. I don't think we had any boys in class.

Very similar to the dog idea but I’ve noticed when I like a colour of my children’s clothing I do end up with a bag to match.
So recently I *somehow* wound up with a forest green longchamp to
complement my little one’s coat
I’m reaching contentment/capacity with my collection (blasphemy, I know), so with my penchant for miniatures now am tempted to get mini and full-size versions for my friends with children. I think they (or their SOs) would have me committed though.

No more excuses, anybody? :sunshine:

Oh I got excuses all right.

I need the same exact bag, maybe in a different color (maybe not lol) as a back up for a bag I’ve still yet to carry.

“But I need a back up just in case”
“You’ve never carried the first bag”
“Yeah but anything could happen to it, so a back up is needed”

Also have done the need a vintage version of the same bag. I may actually have one on the way. Guilty!

This sounds perfectly reasonable. You don’t want to risk anything happening to it until you have a back up!

Well, hello again

I’ve always wanted a bag in this leather…..I’ll get it now and keep it forever!!!

It is January 4th and I’ve fallen off the wagon. I just bought a bag in barenia leather because I’ve never had one before. Seriously that is the only reason. Don’t know whether to laugh or cry but y’all know what I mean!

Now I’m really, truly, seriously, banned, for real!!!

I've done this ... mainly because the one I had was no longer going to be made and I panicked. I ended up moving them out of my house but I'll admit I didn't carry most of what I bought in a panic.

OH, but Barenia... Hmmm.... if you bought H you bought before a price increase so you can also add "and I'm saving money by buying it now, too! Win win!!!" (Hey, did you just read @Notorious Pink's great article?)

You guys. :girlsigh:

thank you, @indiaink !! :hugs:

Ooh, here’s one -

i had to buy it because of this article I wrote!

TPF is bad enough, but writing the articles becomes very enabling...I now own at least half the items I put in my holiday 2021 article! So, yeah, now I am realllllly tempted to add Barenia based on my research. It never ends!

At Hermes Madison in August of 2020. Wife wants her first Constance so I tell her "Your birthday is coming up. Happy Birthday". This is right in front of the cashier. As soon as I finish she says "This is a just because present". Cashier completely lost professionalism and said "Ha. She said it's a just because". So I guess we buy stuff just because.
