It's tough because it looks a little small in the chest area but I think I'd go with 42.

Thanks, here's another pic of the model wearing the IT 40. If it helps, my bra size is 36B. Guess there's really no way to tell for sure until I order one of the sizes. I'm leaning towards the 42 too vs. the 44. Thanks!

I have a question about Alaia dresses. I noticed that one member of the forum claimed Alaia dresses to be true to size, however, I bought a zip front dress recently (in the size I normally wear) and it was definitely too small. It wasn't a knit dress, so I was wondering maybe his knit dresses are the ones that fit true to size? Could someone please elaborate?

I find most of Alaia to run small; I can't say much on knit dresses, but overall I find clothing to run small...

Hi,
Are you talking about the sleeveless cotton dress with the zipper in the front? That runs small comparative to other Alaias, but is the anomaly rather than the norm. His knit dresses tend to have lots of stretch, so those run TTS imo, (though what's TTS these days is up for debate/depends on what brands you usually wear). Always try to get measurements if there's no stretch in the fabric, or even if there is, as variation exists within brands.

So it's been 5 years since I first posted the question regarding Alaia dress sizes and now I am a proud owner of 20 Alaia knit dresses. I am usually size 2-4 US (36-38 EU) and all my dresses are French sizes 40-42. So I would say (at least for me) they all run small to size.

Size conversions are really boggling my mind at the moment. Googling international size equivalents for FR, IT, US, UK sizes etc you get different results from different charts. I thought I had worked out that FR40 for example was US 8, but your experience indicates FR40 is US 2. It's so confusing!! Even trying to use the measurements seems to produce some wacky conversions. I hope more people contribute to this thread. It's great!

Approx:

FR40 = IT44 = UK12 = US8

Longtime standing and new, I'm usually IT42-44 and these sizes hold true to me over FR:Chanel/Dior, IT:Gucci/RC/D&G/McQ, UK:Westwood etc, US: DvF and so on
