The bag/s you're glad you didn't buy?

I walked away from a midday midnight Gerard Darel. I did not consider buying it at the first place because of the big tabs on the front pocket but it was 40% off and the color was beautiful (dark red). I sweated a lot while torturing myself about what to do especially when you see a bunch of people buying bags around you (still winter sales here) somehow the spending/buying aura affects me a lot in these bags stores :/.
And I saw a MBMJ lil Ukita, was 60% off !!! But again I resisted and I left the place.

Sales always got me but not this time :D

Congratuations dear! :-D

I do feel the same way on bags during sale days but I think I can control myself better now especially if I am eyeing something I have to save up for. No more impulse buying bec. whatever I spend on a so-so bag on sale is money deducted meant for my dream bag -- which means I'm a step behind again from having it sooner. And I'm kinda impatient when it comes to that, lol! ;)

I'm proud of you for not buying it!

I swear, all animals have a commonality, at least those who like bright, shiny, (colorful) objects. Sometimes I'm like that dog in the movie "Up" - SQUIRREL!

PURSE!

If my DH is with me during these circumstances, he's like the proverbial leash - YANK, and I keep walking ... looking back, but walking ...

This is hilarious ... and rings very true to me! I think my DH might be related to your DH ...

Great thread, BTW!

I hear ya!

New H Kellys as well as Chanels also don't do it for me, compared them with 20 years ago and :nogood:

I love the Victoria too and was absolutely about to pull the trigger but those handles are so flimsy in the hand, too long in the hand and too short to go over a coat, I was hugely disappointed and like you I walked away

I also love the Victoria in photos, but on me it looks too boxy and your right about the handle length. I actually think the all-leather Garden Party is a better buy.

This! You're absolutely right. The handles are so flimsy. Sigh.

Don't mention to me Hermès of decades past... The Chanels were my mother's and she kept them beyond pristine in multiple dust bags, original boxes, even the original carrier bags. And she PASSED on several Kellys during this time. Back in the day they were still sitting on the shelves. The fastening annoyed her apparently :crybaby:

Forgive me that I'm still wallowing in my ignorance of H vintage and am treating my 2011 Box Retourne with the reverence of an archival piece, so I'm uninitiated in this respect!

That said, for days I've been toying with the idea of something in Box circa 1980.... Had it in a malleries virtual shopping cart and then... No. But not celebrating quite yet; my logic is wavering:
Angel on my shoulder: "Do I need clutch number XX?"
Devil: "But it's Vintage. Hermès. Box. For this price you twit!"

TBC. Unless someone buys it to put me out of misery.

Oh, you are so lucky to have a mother who had Chanel's and kept them in such good condition! It's too bad she didn't love the Kelly, but my mother isn't into that stuff at ALL. I envy you those beautiful vintage Chanels!

And the Angel/Devil thing is very familiar to me, too ... especially when you're dealing with vintage, and you know that if you don't get the item, you don't know when -- or if -- you'll ever see its like again. I'm going through a bit of that now -- trying to resist a certain bag on a reseller's site, and trying very hard not to fall into the "but I may never see it again! This may be my only chance!" trap.

I saw that with Kellys. I saw a retourne Togo a year old or so and it did not strike me like the vintage ones. ( is 90's considered vintage?) about CHANEL though, I have a classic bought in 2010 and I can t see a difference in quality with my vintage one.

Ladysarah, I have a couple of non-vintage Chanel's too (the newest is from 2012) and the quality seems very good ... from what I gather, the quality at Chanel is a bit hit-or-miss lately. You and I may be the lucky ones who got new items that are good quality.

The seller of my vintage Kelly did say to me that she believes the quality of these older bags is better than the ones being made today. Hard to have any issue with H quality, though!

And yes, I believe 90s is considered vintage -- I read somewhere that a purse is considered vintage at the 20-year mark, so 1994 and earlier should fit the bill!

I keep walking away from used YSL Easys that pop up on the *Bay.

I was in a serious Easy phase three years ago. I had four at one point. They're all gone but I did so like the style!

 OMG this may be the most enabling post I've ever read of tPF. Ever.

I'm choosing to ignore it for the moment (although as a result of viewing it, I did check and object of my affection is still on there. Crying out to me in all its pristine glory: "I belong in a Chocolate Box family! Make an offer devil-woman; I want to come home!")

I'm tempted even for 'research' purposes... comparing something older (than me), with something new... :cray:

Hee hee, I didn't intend to be enabling, just commiserating with everyone trying to avoid temptation!

But if the chocolate box you're talking about is the one on eBay I think you're talking about, it's a beauty! (now, THAT's enabling! :graucho:)

I have no idea about the one on eBay you're referring to (unless its the same seller on Malleries) and I don't want to know!!!

So for now I will celebrate the bag/clutch/noteworthy-addition-to-the-collection I haven't (yet) purchased. (Truth be told I am hanging out for an exotic CDC which I want even more ).

Thank you dear :D

I should think like you. Even half price, it's still money that I could have used to buy bags from my wishlist instead of bags randomly seen during sales.

We can do it! :) If we practice this self-control over sale days (or in any other tempting situations like installments/layaways), not only will we feel accomplished for not giving in on impulse but also we'll see how much money we have saved for more important stuff or events in our lives and we'll be thankful for that :)

There's a beautiful yellow alligator Valentino rockstud on sale on the outnet and I didn't buy (although it's in my basket and I keep peeking at it) - I've been eyeing designer alligator/croc for so long but the recent Chanel boys (one goat and one calf, no exotic - yet!) have put a huge dent into this year's purse fund. Deep breath and focus..on...not...buying.....

I love this. The point of this thread, put so succinctly! :smile1:

I was about to buy a like new Marc Jacobs stam hobo for a great price, but soooooo glad I found this thread to slap some sense into me 😂 I have a long wish list and need to stay focused!
