The 2020 Squaring H Cost per Wear V 'HG' Thread

I am sort of new to Hermès. I started saving three years ago, knowing I wanted a small cross body in gold. I was thinking either mini Roulis or mini Mosaique. Two years ago I was in Brussels for work, and between meetings I ran for the H store, and by a miracle they had a mini Mosaique in gold! It is absolutely beautiful. I guess this would be my holy grail.

It was bought to be worn outside of work, and I have done that, and I love it. But I must admit, that it is not a very practical bag, mostly because it is small. I can fit my essentials, but when you’re going shopping or on an outing it is often nice to have room for just a little more.

By the time I realized this, I had 1) caught the H bug, and 2) thrown caution to the wind and started looking a pre-loved H bags. My next bag was a Bolide 27, bought for the same purpose (weekends), and the is definitely the most used!

A whole other story is work bags. Here I have gone for what I know (from many years of been a Bottega Veneta affacionado) works for me: Hobo bags. These are not currently in vogue, but I have found some pre-loved, and they get lots and lots of use - So Kelly 22, Massai, Trim 35 and lately a Marwari bag. I prefer less well-known H bags, and pre-loved fits better in my budget, so that’s a win-win.

I just had this discussion with myself (about a new Gucci) but as I said on another thread, some bags are not worth the hassle and some bag are just worth it, can't be practical all the time.

This thread got me thinking and since I am relatively new to H (started in May), I was able to put actual numbers in relation to cost per wear. Scary! I put in rough estimates on how many days I have worn my bags, but it is making rethink my handbag game. I calculated based on 225 days of Hermès in my life.

Most useful item: My Evelyne PM in black. Cost per wear comes out to 12€/day as I use this bag almost daily (and some days I use multiple bags). It's not my most favorite/desired H bag, but it is the easiest to use by far. I walk to get all of my shopping done, so a crossbody that I can wear with a backpack works. Love the way it molds to the body and is under the radar as well. Like a lot of others have said, I never would have thought... 1st runner up is Evelyne TPM. I have not used it often, but with lower price point, it comes out to 129€/day. 2nd runner up is my Birkin 35 in a dark green at 194€/day.

My most used SLG- my Bearn key wallet. Daily so it will eventually be cents per wear.

Most prized item: My Birkin 30 in Bambou. Higher cost per wear at 258€/day. This number is a bit higher due to (1) it is my most recent bag purchase (2) it has GHW so it looks a bit too nice for a lot of my COVID-casual wardrobe (3) it's more of spring/summer bag for me. I hope in Spring/Summer 2021 I can use this several times a week! 1st runner up for most prized would be my Evelyne TPM, prized because it's adorable, good for when you don't really want a bag, but need something and they are hard to get.

Squaring with my H-abit: My Bolide is now at 595€/day and while I think it is gorgeous, if I do ever sell a bag, this might have to be the first one to go. Second to go might be the Birkin 35 which I love the dark green color and the Epsom leather, but (1) not a spring or summer bag and (2) looks big on me and does get banged around by other people when I take it out.

My most prized B30 in Bambou further cements my desire for a B30 in black that I think would get a lot of use. Evies will stay because they are so damn useful and relatively cheaper compared to other H bags.

Good solid H-logic, you are so organised.

I would say (because I love the model) and because we both love our Evies. Take your Bolide out a lot, and see if you bond with it and how you get on with it before you let it go. It hasn't been selling steadily since 1923 for no reason. It's that perfect can be casual, can be smart bag.

I shall play because of dear PT

My most used bag
It's hard to say because I consciously try to rotate my bags and despite the current situation, the country I am located in has never actually been in lockdown. So I use my Kelly 25s, Mini Roulis and TPM Evies the most. Cost per wear is justifiable to me.

My HG bag
Without a doubt my own design Horizon bag because it is everything I want and need. It has a higher cost per wear only because I designed it to cover travelling and that has been reduced drastically this year. I treasure it completely and it holds special memories also of visiting the Horizon atelier upstairs at FSH, meeting the craftsperson who made it and subsequently my visit to the Pantin workshop.

H Logic Squared
I am the first to admit that I have a collection larger than really necessary but each bag/ clutch was chosen carefully in specs which suited me and to serve a need and I do not regret them at all. I am the happy and fortunate curator of some lovely SOs, vintage and Heritage leather bags and a special Porosus Kelly even if I hardly use that last one. After such a long time being a H client, I think they have all paid for themselves. I now choose new additions with even more care and a very critical eye, but when they make the cut, it will be permanent.

Firstly how fabulous that you an H got together to create literally the bag of your dreams, true bespoke. So lovely to hear that your H bags have paid for themselves to, that is true appreciation.
