Hell...I wished I lived closer to you. Would love to go to an auction with someone who knows the ropes!

I usually go to NYC. You live in that area & probably get a good deal on airline tickets. :graucho:

Think I'm coming in for the Elizabeth Taylor auction. Lets meet up if I do!
Although I don't know how much I'll be buying at her auction.

Vegas Long Legs - Any tips for the rest of us? I think shopping at auctions is great! But sometimes have trouble figuring out what is a "good deal". I like your rule of thumb of "1K for each carat for tennis bracelets". Any other guidance?

Always go to the auctions ( or preview) to see the items in person> The money you spend on the flight & hotel room is worth it. Some items don't photgraph well & some look better in pictures than IRL.

The 1 kt per $1,000 is where the jewelers will usually stop. If you can buy at that, you got a great deal.

There are so many more people bidding on line & the phone than used to. Many are from developing nations & they only care about winning, not really what they are paying. Alas, sometimes you just need to let them win. There's always next sale.

They purposely hold a jewlery auction in December, Christmas. And the place is full of men trying to buy for their wives or girlfriends. Chance are you'll find something, bid & then a bunch of guys who were sitting there not showing interest at all will jump in & bid too. (Guess they figure well she likes it, my wife will too. :p)

One of the reasons I love Swarovski is because it is more sparkly than diamonds. The crystal is cut differently, and has more facets and it reflects more light!

I'm thinking it looks somewhere between 8 - 10 cts, very pretty!

thank you! I have some store credit at Swarovski and I plan on getting 2 more, on white and maybe another one in a fashion colour.
I also like their pearls! (available in the Crystallized store)
