I wouldn't be surprised because Asians are generally brand-conscious! Here in my city, I am used to seeing my Chinese brethens buy AP watches a few at a time! I believe if Bs are freely available, they would be purchased by the dozen by my compatriots.

I will actually be happy if I see many teenagers carry Bs all over the place. Then it simply shows our country is rich & has become a easier place to make a living! But then we will need another status symbol.

Can we please keep the race card out?

The focus on the bag implies that there is inevitable disappointment ahead--but why assume that? Rather like bemoaning kids who grow up with fine art on the walls. Well, they may just have a special opportunity to develop their eye to quality and beauty.

If the child is lucky enough to have parents who will teach them about the quality of things and how to appreciate them, then that's great!! But far too often these lessons are not taught. Many of my friends growing up absolutely do not appreciate what they have- they were never taught appreciation & gratitude. When you don't feel appreciation & gratitude there *is* inevitable disappointment ahead.

My parents were not well-off & mum didn't have a single B. Fortunately they saved every penny they had to put me thru' college in the west. Even so, I didn't make enough to buy a B in my younger days. Now middle-aged, I finally got my first B a week or so ago. Of course I am wildly excited. I finally got what I want by working hard in my life!:smile1:

I m proud that I m an Asian, and I got my first B at the age of 24 (not a teen anymore) because of my own carrier and now, 3 years later I can already support my whole family in finance.

Wow, your parents must be proud of u! If I had u as my daughter, I would probably ask u for a B rather than the other way around!:p

When it comes to "providing for one's children", nothing surprises me any more. People always want the best for their children, be it a Birkin, VCA, a sports car or an Ivy League education. One of my friends’ cousin has a daughter who is now 6 years old. The mother (the cousin) insists on buying the daughter Dior RTW. Do you think a 6-year old care about Dior RTW? No she doesn’t. But she buys them for her nonetheless. She even said to my friend that she knew her daughter would not make it big in life, or be able to go to an Ivy League university. Because everything has been provided for her, there is no need for her to. The family has enough money for her not to work all her life. So the mother just doesn’t care whether the daughter will grow up to be a success or whatever. If I had a daughter, I would give her all my Hermes bags at some point in our lives, as long as she likes them.

My DDs ( they are 12, 11 & 9) & I have seen young girls carrying evelynes & jypsieres over the last couple of months. These young girls probably high school or college going girls looked well behaved & smart. They carried these cross body H bags well and were also with their doting parents. Altogether very lovely sightings as these H bags are really appropriate in terms of function & style. Now, my daughters are very young, still into their low maintainence Le Sport Sac bags for schools, but they recognized these H bags thanks to me. They always remind me to keep my H bags in good condition as they'll love to use these bags when they turn 16.

And so say most of us, hear hear, D Lee

Sorry - we have threads about saving to get the items you want, about why people carry the brands they do, and even about parenting issues.

I don't see how this thread was intended as anything other than a slam against people whose teens carry expensive items. There are a lot of arguments for and against that, and the turn this thread has taken in the last few posts isn't really necessary.

Closing this now.
