I was at a local high-end shopping center this weekend & I saw a group of teens and a couple of the girls were carrying bright colored Birkins. I was a little surprised! I do live just outside of NYC so teens here are very fashion conscious. But still! When I was growing up, a teen carrying LV was a big deal!! Please tell me a teen with a Birkin is still an unusual sighting??

It depends where in the world you are. And that's assuming that said bags are the real deal.

Welcome to the new world. 8 yr old now have cell phones and I didn't get mine til I was almost 30!

I haven't seen a lot of Birkins being carried by ANYONE... ANYWHERE I have gone in years (besides inside the H boutiques).... I have had a few random sightings at King Of Prussia Mall in PA and at the high end mall in the Northern VA area from time to time... but I'm usually alone.

I think I would be physically nauseated if I saw teens with Birkins... Especially if they were not authentic!

I mean, when you get a hard-to-find $10,000 bag at age 15 what do you have left to aspire to? I guess they may have been fakes- I didn't get close enough to authenticate lol!! But carrying a fake to a shopping center that has Hermes would take some guts!!!

Where I live I haven't seen ANYONE carry a Birkin or H bag in general. However, when I was at my H store (5 hrs away) a couple of months ago I saw a teen carrying a UV Kelly. She was with her mom (who was carrying an Evelyn) & my eyes popped out of my head! She had to be only 15!

LOL maybe the teen and her mom swapped bags? I think the Evelyne would actually be very cute on a teen!! Birkin sightings are very common at this shopping center- when I have lunch there I swear there is at least one Birkin at every table!!! This is the same shopping center where I once saw a mom shopping for a birthday present for her daughter's 8th birthday...she was deciding which necklace to get her from Van Cleef & Arpels!!

I agree completely. I see teen-aged girls where I live carrying real ones, some of them still in their school uniforms. Fifteen years-old. My 15 yr-old daughter has whatever bag from Urban Outfitters. Not to judge, but what are their parents thinking buying them 10K bags at that age? I don't care how much money you have.
Ok, rant over.

The VCA Sweet Alhambra line was designed for children :smile1:

We actually have a lot of younger members who own or are saving for Hermes items. There is, in fact, a thread on this subject:

http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes-clubhouse/young-and-in-love-with-hermes-611717.html

So whether or not you would purchase an Hermes item for a teen in your life, it would be respectful if people posting here would be mindful of that.

Thanks.

I will definitely read thru that thread- it's always interesting reading different viewpoints!! I often see younger people wearing CdCs, Twillys, etc-- it was just the Birkins that surprised me!!

I wish I could of had a B or K when I was a teenager, lucky young ladies but personally I probably wouldn't buy my daughter such an expensive bag but I only have sons & none of them have ever had any interest in bags so my babies are safely tucked away in there dust bags :)

Thanks.

Leaving this open for now, but if it turns into a thread to criticize people for buying expensive items for their kids (or kids for spending on expensive items) .... it will get closed as frankly, it's been discussed quite a few times before in many threads across the brands.

this whole thread seems a bit judgmental. i always feel uncomfortable when people try to assert who can/cannot is worthy/unworthy to carry hermes, as it is a slippery slope with age, gender, income, etc etc...

i think there are things other than hermes that teenagers, and adults, can aspire to. i can't tell whether you have an issue with the fact teenagers carry the same bag as you, or that their parents gave it to them? personally, i try not to dwell on things i do not have the power to change and just try to be happy with what i have.

I think age is no problem as I know certain circles come from either very wealthy (1%) background or work very hard very early in life. I 100% believe that their attitude towards life, hard work and money is a much bigger problem.

- Some of those I know are very materialistic, do not respect money and will throw around very expensive items that they got from their parents. They look down on the poorer and will go "ew" if you take them camping ----- I've seen 30 yo doing this, no kidding, so age shouldn't matter!

- Some will be very humble, saves, shop sales and live simple, treasure knowledge more than money and volunteer their time for charity (even though they are twice richer than the other group).

From what I've observed, their upbringing and parents' attitude that make the difference. Young and old should be able to enjoy H without discrimination, as long as H is appreciated.

(I am no longer a teenager but I'm in my early 20s. Definitely does not belong to the 1%)
