I had an 08 City where both sets of tassels split - one on the zipper and the other on the front pocket. It was my only RH bag. I sold it and vowed to stop buying RH bags.

I noticed from my collection that the splitting started with my 2008 bouton d'or. The leather was dry and the thin and by wrapping the tassel around my finger and seeing the creases I could tell it can easily split.... and they did.
I have been buying mostly GH now so I am surprised to hear that they had stopped giving an extra set of tassel with the newer RH bags :tdown:

The tassels on my Outremer PT were splitting when I got them, but my Sorbet PT and Cyclade City are fine. I tried calling Bal NY, but since I got them from Erica, Bal NY wouldn't allow me to purchase any extra tassels. Hopefully I can find some extra tassels somewhere; otherwise, I'll have to resort to gluing them back together. :(

Oh dear, I'm looking forward to getting an Outremer RH City... I will be so disappointed if this has split tassels, being the first Bal and the first bag I would ever pay retail for! Is it just Outremer that is affected?

Okay ... so some history here ... the splitting tassels has been happened WAAAAAY before '08!! This is the reason why Balenciaga used to provide an extra pair when you purchased the bag. The worst years (IMO) for the splitting tassels was '06 because that wasn't the best year for Balenciaga leather (definitely on the thinner side). Now, that's not to say that I go ballistic with split tassels; I have plenty of older bags that I just don't mess with and frankly, the split tassels really don't bug me that much (if anything, I think it's kind of cool).

What bugs me with the splitting now, is that Balenciaga isn't providing the extra pair anymore because "they are made so much better now" (their words - not mine!). BS ... if they are so much better, then why are they splitting again!?!? If this going to happen, they we shouldn't have to PAY for extra tassels and/or shouldn't be given such a hard time about getting another pair!!

Oh believe me *ML* ... I agree with you, but sadly ... there will always be some people who will try to profit on what is no longer readily available (and gosh knows, Balenciaga has contributed to that!).

Bottom line, most of the Balenciaga boutiques will not sell you tassels unless you purchased the bag at their boutique! However, there are some boutiques that are less stringent with this rule. Do remember, however, that they carry only the current & prior year/season tassels ... it's highly unlikely that they would have tassels for any bags prior to '09.

I carried my sang first for the first time and one of the tassels split!!! I didn't have this problem with the earlier bag so I was shocked. It was devastating!! I have never imagined that it would happen on my first use of the bag....

the tassels attached to the mirror of my moutard RGGH are beginning to split.i noticed it at once when i was trying it on at the boutique but i have no choice since the balenciaga boutique here have limited stock, just 1 pc/color/style.i guess i just have to buy an extra tassel.

yup, bal costa mesa are more relaxed in selling tassels but they will only mail to the credit card billing address :sad: and since i live outside the US, i need to pay $75 just for shipping! argh!

It just doesn't make any sense for them not to sell extra tassles? Ok, granted that there are some people who might sell it on evilbay or similar sites for a profit, but if you do a 1 for 1 exchange with your old tassles, I don't see what's the issue?

i have an 06 box, and i've been using it for a really long time (corners are darkened and all) and the tassels have not split! however, i used to own an 08 bubblegum city rh, and the tassels have split on those, haven't been carrying it that much either! i just wish they will give out free tassels with the bag again... it's really not a big deal... and apparently we need them!

I think the patch of leather is nice for testing products though. If you're thinking of protecting your bag you can do a color test on the patch first to see if there's any change with the leather.

yes, i agree w using it as a patch test but could they give us any smaller piece?? hehe. i'm sorry to sound cheap, it's just that paying so much for my bal bag, tassels shouldn't split and if they do, we should b able to get it replaced w o jumping through fire. i'd appreciate it so much more if my tassels can b replaced more easiy.
