Tacky totes

I like to watch opera and Broadway and concert when I am traveling. And quite often I dont have the luxury of going back to hotel to change. Usually, I will leave my hotel early in the morning, going around the town, watch the performance and only came back to hotel late at night. So yeah, I am bringing my balenciaga city with me to opera house, theatres and concert hall (and drag performances as well).

As regards other people, I couldn’t care less what they are wearing, as long as they are decent and not endangering me by any means [/QUOTE]

You mean like feeling the Neverfull brush past you ten times a day on the bus/train or having to duck out of the way at small intimate restaurants because of the bowling bag on someone's shoulder? Because I truly do feel like I'm in danger in those situations.

I think sitting at the opera or even a cinema with a big tote on my lap would be a personal annoyance so I would try to avoid that; but at the same time a clutch is just not large enough to deal with any meds I might need for the evening. I guess I would try to find some middle ground, a smaller CB maybe.

Was reading this thread and then I saw this interesting fashion choice by Paris Hilton at "Diddy's" 50th bday party. She has a clutch and what appears to be a hobo bag on her shoulder? :eek:Am I seeing things?

Is the double bag becoming a thing? I’ll feel stylish when I carry my tote and lunchbox to work.

I wonder why she even bothers to carry the clutch! Maybe to let the people know that she has enough style to carry a clutch.

...I always find it strange to see women carrying a Neverfull at a restaurant in the evening, for example. I feel so strongly about this that I will plan ahead if I’m planning on meeting up for after work dinner/drinks and carry a smaller purse/clutch in my larger tote and switch; use a smaller satchel or shoulder bag (not a tote) that day for work; or utilize the detachable pouch that came with my Mansur Gavriel tote. It just strikes me as somewhat of a fashion faux pas to wear a large tote like that to dinner or to a theater performance, other evening event, etc.

it is a real shame that we have become so casual that many people never dress ‘up’ or carry clutches for that matter. On the other hand it’s a positive thing that we’ve moved into a less rigid and more inclusive society.
Personally I love seeing people dress up and carry smart little bags, but some people do go out straight from work (including me so little choice when that happens) I think it’s a missed opportunity when people are permanently ‘casual’

I always have a water bottle with me, so I almost always carry a tote or larger bag (speedy or Goyard artois for example) no matter what. I have many cute small bags but can’t figure out how to use them and carry my water.

This is so me! I have a tiny water bottle that I use inside my chanel jumbo but nothing fits in my mini! I usually end up with a tote instead...

I do agree with you on both counts.

For myself, I love the opportunity to dress up in a nice outfit and carry a nice bag - I most days and many hours at my office job (super casual dress code) and do a lot of volunteer work that is either remote or requires that I carry a bag large enough to carry a laptop, even when I do take the time to dress smartly. I have a few clutches and small evening bags that get used very rarely, so I delight in the opportunity to pull them out for a little adventure.

It's hard to coordinate the days when I have to carry both the large tote + small evening clutch, but if I can, I try to - I think the overall presentation is just that much nicer. Even if other people don't appreciate the effort, I certainly enjoyed the experience, and that to me is excuse enough!
