I'm going to try to make this come out as politely as possible as of course you are entitled to an opinion- I don't think it's possible to debate this if you are not educated on the subject and by your statements above I can see that it's simply a case of you not knowing enough about the whole issue to understand my point. There is no illusion of scarcity that is attached to designer bags like there is with gems.
In short:
Pressurized coal = diamond. Coal ALWAYS comes from the ground. Whether the pressurization comes from the earth or a machine, the result is the same- a+b=c. So please remember that a lab-pressurized diamond and a ground-pressurized diamond are the SAME THING. I'm not talking abut CZs or other simulants anywhere- just actual diamonds made by speeding up a natural process. How is that buying a "replica"? Your comparison is way off the mark between bags and diamonds. There are trademark and design factors involved with bags- diamonds are just rocks found in the ground. It's this comparison that makes this a fruitless argument for me, same as if I were to form an opinion on something like train engines which I know very little about as well:p!

thanks for replying to this fruitless argument, it must have triggered some compulsive obsession to reply back with your opinion. :roflmfao: i look forward to another reply. :smooch:

anyways calling another uneducated is untasteful because i am not even commenting about trademarks. but if you can not see where i am coming from how can you expect me to share your view. lab created = not natural, how hard is it to understand that concept? they are replicating the process of a natural diamond.. replica bags are replicated to look like a authentic bag.. this is very simple to understand. i am not going into details about trademarks etc.. i just clearly wanted to state that anything made to look like another is a replication.. if you enjoy replicated diamonds then be open to the idea of a replicated purse.. made to look like but will never be.. :yahoo:

why were diamond stimulants first created/man made? oh let me guess.. to replicate a natural diamond..:noggin:

I like the look of diamonds. I love clear stones, I always have. Sapphire is soft and doesn't sparkle well, same with topaz.

I guess its fine if you don't like them, but its not fair to say that those who do buy them are only trying to look like they have more money than they do. I am wearing a cz engagement ring right now, not because I can't afford it, but because I have already lost two $$$ engagement rings and I don't trust myself with another one right now. I want some diamond stud earrings, but I would prefer to get CZ studs because I would rather spend my money elsewhere. I would rather put the money towards a nice watch, or nice bags, or nice shoes, or even some jewelry by an artisan designer - where I am paying for design and art rather than some over-inflated price set by a diamond cartel.

i am sorry but where did i say that people who buy them are trying to look like they have more money? i simply said stimulants diamonds were made to replicate a natural diamond and replica bags are made to replicate a authentic bag. that was my simple statement, there is nothing more to it..

your CZ engagement ring is a prefect example (i am assuming it is lab created because of a comment above about them being very rare in nature). i am sorry about your sentimental loss and i understand why you would be skeptical about wasting more money on another that could come to the same fate but the stereotype of a engagement ring is a white diamond thus any stone that resembles a white stone in a setting wore on that finger will be assumed to be a diamond. same goes with your comment on diamond studs, you want the look but for a cheaper price so that you can buy something else.

I can certainly say that you are uneducated on this particular topic and you clearly are, so why would that be distasteful? If you honestly don't understand the physical processes that create diamonds and how those processes are replicated in a lab to make the same product, and you compare fair labour practices to items that fund civil wars that displace and kill literally MILLIONS of people- how can you say that you know enough about this topic to have a healthy debate about it? I am happy to accept a difference of opinion on a subject but only if the person forming that opinion is basing it on concrete knowledge about the topic. So that's why it's a one-sided and yes, fruitless argument for me.
Circoit- great post, you really clarified your opinion well

i find it funny  that my comment is not the same as yours thus i am not entitled to my opinion. i personally do not buy synthetic diamonds or anything that resembles one because if i can not afford the real thing i do not want to give the idea i have it. same with replica bags, there are 99% copies available which i refuse to buy. instead i save up and purchase the real thing.

I was responding to your comment above regarding your wearing fake diamonds implies that you can afford something you actually can't. There are plenty of people out there who buy real diamonds and authentic handbags, who actually cannot afford them (ie: putting them on credit cards and having no money in their savings account). To me, jewelry is all about the design and art of an item and what it contributes to an outfit and not an opportunity to display my wealth. Some people buy and wear jewelry with that attitude in mind, but I am not one of them.

Naturally, people will assume I am wearing a diamond if a CZ is worn in place of my engagement ring. If someone asked if it was real, I would tell them it wasn't. And, even if they didn't and assumed it was real - what is the harm in that? I am not wearing cz in order to try and impress people by trying to pass them off as diamonds. I just like the look of them.

What is your stance on fake fur? Or fake leather? Or imitation vanilla? Do you think its tacky to wear fake fur or fake leather? Would you rather go without vanilla altogether rather than stoop to use the imitation? For some people, they may wear fake fur or fake leather due to moral issues, or others may wear them just because they are more affordable. I think it would be lame to tell those people to just stay away from anything that looks like those materials all because someone might mistake it for the real thing.

I think comparing those items, natural resources for which man has found substitutes a more accurate comparison than a replica handbag. I have strong feelings against replica handbags because of the black market issues and the fact that it is essentially stealing another persons design. Whereas, fake diamonds, fake pearls, fake leather, fake fur - the making of, buying and wearing of these is not only harmless, it allows a huge portion of people to play dress up and wear pretty things, who otherwise would not be able to afford it. What is so wrong with that?

EXACTLY.
Not to mention that NOT wearing the natural version of many of the things you mentioned actually saves lives.

http://www.moissanite-stardust.com/diamond-substitutes.html

"diamonds have been a favorite area for imitation over the years. Rhinestones, Cubic Zirconia and Zircon are all attempts to replicate the beauty of diamonds at a lower cost."

As i have been stating over and over.. synthetic diamonds are replicated natural diamonds. fake bags are replicated authentic bags. both are made to imitate.

if i was against fur why would i want to be caught wearing fake fur on my jacket? that is just stupid. i have no issues with fake anything, i am only clearly stating that they are made to look like the real thing.

circoit- so why a CZ? also known as a fake diamond? why not a garnet or a onion ring? but whatever i really do not care. no matter what you say you are wearing a ring with a stone that sole purpose was to imitate a real natural diamond. it looks like a diamond but will never be one. why? because it is a diamond substitute....

stylefly- uneducated on what? the fact synthetic diamonds are made to look like real diamonds and 99.9% replica bags are made to look like authentic bags? its an very simple idea.

synthetic lab grown diamonds will never be worth as much as a real natural diamond. " Synthetic diamond resembles natural diamond " http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/578667/synthetic-diamond

resembles means "to be like"

oh and yes i rather have a blood diamond than a safe lab grown one. no point in owning a imination of something. if i were against blood diamonds i would go for citrine.

i think you guys are reading too deeply into her comment. :confused1: She was meerly pointing out the imitation factor. Man-made diamonds (whether is it CZ, Moissanite, etc) have only been created and marketed as an alternative diamonds because diamonds are so rare and the natural geological process of making one is so extensive. The fact that they are made by a similiar process to natural diamonds is to produce the look, shine, and hardness composition of a real diamond. THAT, in my book, is the definition of imitation.

Agreeably, a replica bag does not have the same quality as a real bag. Man-made diamonds are said to have almost the same quality as real diamonds BUT when you are taking about "synthetic diamonds" you (stylefly) cannot rule out the fact that you are including CZs in the class. Even according to your recommended article "Man-made diamonds- A Buyer's Guide"(http://www.greatdiamondtips.com/manmade.html), CZs are listed among the examples of "synthetic diamonds."
Ultimately, the better the imitation (in appearance AND composition) will cost more than the obvious lesser quality imitators (ie. CZ) or better put in your article "Perhaps a good choice for cheap bling, but not for fine jewelry."

so my point being.....you should be arguing your case with man-made diamonds only....and not in the class of "synthetic diamonds" which includes much "cheaper" imitatiors of the natural diamond. Since this thread IS TITLED "Synthetic Diamonds"....who are YOU to make the assumption of who is more or less educated on the topic? It's a pretty broad topic in my opinion.
