Chanel use crystals in their costume jewellery and I don't think many people would say it's tacky!
I own afew pieces of swarovski (2 Nivana rings and a cuff bracelet) and I agree with the posters who said it's more to do with how you wear it and what with.

i don't think they're tacky at all unless you're drenched in big bold crystals. but diamonds would be tacky if worn like that too IMO. it's all good in moderation :)

i don't think either swarovski pieces posted are tacky or gaudy.

definitely not tacky! its affordable everyday jewelry, in my opinion. i have swarovski earrings that are my everyday pair and i get compliments on them all the time!

I definately don't think its tacky. Obviously if you're head to toe in crystals it could do.

As all the previous posters have said jewellery should be fun.

My Aunt got a pair of Swarovski earrings last year and they had a small crystal at the top and a small faux pearl drop. They look great and she does get compliments.

One thing I will say is I bought a ring a few years back from them and wore it throughout the year, by the end of the year the plating had come off the back and its now unwearable and that was my first purchase from them and my first serious jewellery purchase.

I also love Swarovski jewelry. Here are pics of 2 of my bracelets. I suppose they could be considered tacky, especially if they were worn together!

I used to love Swarovski jewelries and I own many pieces. After a while, I just did a math and with all the money that I had spent, I could have got something more "real", like real gold or real diamonds. Now I prefer something more classic. So I agree that their stuff is a little over priced, but to get a few pieces that you like is not bad.

Swarovski have many different designs and they also provide cheaper lines (Oliver Weber) with their rhinestones. Since I live in the home country of Swarovski the jewelry is reasonably priced, the quality is good, the service too (the large crystal of my 4 year old ring became loose and they glued it on for free) and you have lots of nice designs to chose from. Daniel Swarovski (their couture line) is another thing though, I'd never buy faux-jewelry for a couple hundreds or even thousands of Euros when you can already buy real jewels with that money. But if you have the chance to check out the large new Swarovski in Vienna I'd do it. Lot's of affordable bling

I had been looking at a swarvoski necklace, just a plain crystal that's clear in a store. I went to look for it online and found a bunch of links calling Swarvoski jewels "tacky" and "gaudy" and "cheap". Do you agree with this? I've never heard this before and would be interested in hearing your opinion.

Swarvoski jewellery is stunning

I have a really beautiful necklace from them, its beautiful and not tacky at all!! I ended up buying 6 more of them to give away for Christmas a few years ago and I always see the recipients wearing them. They always say its their favorite go to necklace.

They have some very gorgeous, elegant pieces. Wear what you enjoy. I have some jewelry that is expensive and some that is not. It's fun to wear both for different occasions. Just have fun with your jewelry and don't worry about others opinions.
