I think the Hermès Calvi is a little too simple for me (though I like the idea of it), but the Hermès Silk'In Compact Wallet is SO beautiful...! Such a simple exterior but what a surprise upon opening the wallet. That gorgeous pop of color inside is exactly something that would bring me a little bit of joy during the day when using it.

It has just enough card slots and the shape is certainly within the range I'd want for a compact wallet. And, I also like the zip closure - it feels more secure to me, though I certainly don't object to button/snap closures.

Now, if only I can work up the nerve to walk into an Hermès... it's a brand that is very intimidating to me.

I promise! It's not that bad. If no one helps you, you can just ask for help. They like people who know what they want...if what they want is not a Birkin, Kelly, or any mini bag :) They sell Silk'ins online, too. I have one and I love it. I do use my Calvi more but it's very minimal. Silk'In is great for receipts because of the zipper.

Nonsense - I've been to Hermes stores all over the world and they've always been very accommodating. The last time I went in, I was wearing a yoga outfit and sneakers!

I don’t think people should be intimidated by any brand. At the end of the day they are a business and they need to sell. You will find rude and friendly SAs everywhere. This comes down to the personality and not the brand. Last time I walked into hermes I was in sneakers and had my 1 year old in his stroller with me. Only bought a tie for my husband but spent more than an hour in the shoe and leather department just browsing and trying on stuff. The SA was super friendly and we chatted about life and kids. Very relaxed and “normal “ experience

Thank you both for the encouragement. This is probably more of a "it's me, not you" - I'm honestly just not used to walking into stores where the average price of goods is hundreds or thousands of dollars in value.

Yes, the inside zipper pocket appeals to me for exactly that reason. It's also small and compact, exactly what I'm looking for. I'd love to see what the wallets look and feel like in person, and compare it to some of the others that have been suggested.

Thank you for the suggestion - I'd never heard about this brand but was quite impressed with the prices. I looked through the website and while nothing really jumped out at me, I think this is going to be one of those cases where I'd really want to be able to see/touch the item in person before making a purchase, since I don't want to deal with the hassle of online returns.

I did see that they have a storefront in New York, though, so if I'm ever there...

Thank you kindly for the suggestion. It does look great and super functional, but it looks too similar to a card holder I just purchased. I didn't think to look in a men's collection, though, so this is something I'll keep in mind as I continue browsing.

The Prada bifold wallets look lovely. I also quite like Prada's Saffiano leather - I've had a clutch/evening bag that was gifted to me many years ago that still looks brand new. I don't intentionally go out and rough up my stuff of course, but it's nice not having to worry too much about wear making it look too dingy over time.

The BV ones are also quite cute - nothing stood out to me and I'm not a fan of the weave-pattern look, but they are certainly in the correct size range and have all the features that I'd want to have in a compact wallet, without being too bulky.

Thank you for these suggestions! I think 10 cards in it is probably excessive for me (I think I need closer to 4-6 card slots or that capacity, as i like to include my ID, hospital card, and sometimes business cards alongside actual credit cards). The Furla Favola small wallet is promising, so I will definitely check that out - not sure how I feel about the Jacquard fabric (vs leather) but I do like the size.

Thank you for the LV suggestions! I actually like how compact the Rosalie is, but unfortunately I am not a huge fan of the canvas prints, and on top of that I also heavily dislike both of the color options (pink and fuchsia). If they had other options I definitely would consider it - I like the small profile.

The Victorine wallet though - so lovely! I like how the Monogram Empreinte Leather looks and could definitely see myself owning any of the color options that I see online. The Moulin Rouge especially - love that flash of red on the edges, and I LOVE that bold scarlet as well.

I tried stopping by an LV store on Sunday and it was SO busy and packed with people... I'll probably have to wait until I get the chance to visit during a weekday and after the holidays. :noworry:

Thank you for the suggestion! I like the simple look but not loving the tab closure.

+1 for the Victorine wallet. I am a compact wallet only person, hate bulk, do not want hardware on the outside (phone scratches etc), never owned a long wallet, yet I still have lots of cards to carry with me. The only style that works for this is compact tri fold wallets. I just got the Victorine a week ago in empriente leather, so far it is exactly what you say you are looking for and I absolutely love it, it is the perfect wallet in every way. I planned to get the epi leather since it is going to be my every day beater wallet, but when I got to the store and she showed me the empriente (I got it in black), it was just so much nicer than the other leather or canvas. It's really beautiful. I was assured that it wears well too and is sturdy enough to last for years and years of daily use.

My tip for holiday LV shopping is go right when it opens on a Saturday if you can (vs Sunday because it opens later.) I showed up at 10:15am on a Sat and there was only one other customer in the store. About 3 SAs gave me full service attention even though I said I was only there to buy a wallet, offered water, gave me all the perfume samples to take home, let me try on all the bags I wanted, etc. I also avoided the flagship store in my city, I went to another store that I thought would be less busy and it totally worked out.

@angersauce, thank you so much for the review/thoughts on the LV Victorine! It is definitely high on my list to take a look at, next time I'm at an LV store.

Unfortunately, I have a standing commitment on Saturday mornings so opening hours on Saturday would be hard, but it looks like one of the LV stores close to me actually opens at 9:00am on both Saturdays and Sundays, so I might swing by during one of these weekends and see if it's less busy. Last I stopped by was during an afternoon, and it's hard for me to assert myself when it looks like everyone is busy helping other shoppers - especially when all I want to do is take a look.

This maybe ultra compact, but I love smaller bags and cannot stand how heavy wallets can be (and cumbersome).
I love the YSL Fragments
I have one from Furla, from the Babylon line, and it's brilliant! LV also has one. I can't believe I forgot this style completely since I've used my Furla so much. If you don't mind having your cards outside the wallet, this is probably the best style you can find.

Thank you for the suggestions! I actually consider wallets that fold (even if they have a full-length pocket for bills) as wallets that also "fold" my bills - I either prefer them ultra flat (as from a long wallet) or I don't really care either way about how the bill is treated, since I tend to use credit cards only anyway. I think at this point I'm probably leaning towards the Hermes Silk'In or LV's Victorine. I'll probably get a better idea once I see both styles in person.

I have a card holder in this style and it's great! I definitely don't mind having the cards on the outside, especially if the space is in a premium like a small purse or clutch, and I know having an actual wallet isn't super necessary.

So I took my rare weekday off to do some window shopping and to check out the Victorine Wallet at LV, and the Silk'In Compact Wallet at Hermès.

The LV in empreinte leather is so soft! I really like the look of the leather and the subtle monogramming, and the amazing saturation of the red leather. The leather also feels very sturdy and I like the surface - it definitely looks like a texture that won't show any scratches or wear very quickly.

Unfortunately the Hermès didn't have any Silk'In Compacts available in the store! I was disappointed about that, but due to how compact it is I still do want to check it out. I'll have to plan that particular outing for the Hermès a little farther away. It's located in a very touristy and $$ retail area, and it is also larger so hopefully they will carry the Silk'In there.

A lot of great suggestions. All I can say is look into men’s wallet/card holders. They’ve been compact for years! For ages I was using a limited edition LV men’s pocket organizer which fits everything that I need and always get compliments.
Loewe also make great compact wallets
