I've been using a long wallet when carrying larger bags to/from work and want to have some bills on-hand for lunch, social outings, etc, but lately have been thinking it would be nice to have a smaller, compact wallet when I downsize to a smaller bag, when space is at a much higher premium.

It needs to have card slots (minimum 2-3, more is okay), and preferably doesn't have a buckle that wraps around the outside (i.e. should have a slim/smooth outer profile to avoid "catching" on things), though that's not a deal-breaker. Some kind of closure preferred - could be zip, button/snap, etc - so it can't flop open on its own. A slip pocket for bills/receipts/papers is probably necessary/helpful. Not sure if I want to have an interior zip pocket - for ladies who have that, what do you use it for and do you find it useful?

I'm not loyal to a specific brand (though my full-size wallet is a black Celine zip wallet with gold hardware that I purchased on my first trip to Italy - love it!), so I'd just like to hear what works for others as I start browsing and looking around. I have small bags by Prada, Celine, and Coach, and would love to branch out and try out some other brands.

No price point for now, as I'm purely browsing for the moment and I'd like to enjoy the experience of going in store and browsing. I would appreciate any suggestions/thoughts that the more knowledgeable members here might have!

Longchamp coin purse is one of my favorites. You can fit over 10 cards in it and while it doesn't have an outer zipped compartment it does have a place for coins inside. It's a deep flat pocket along the flap.

I also have a Furla Favola small wallet which has 6 card slots, the outer coin compartment and a slot for bills. Two of the card slots are such that you can fit more than 1 card in them; I think the most I've carried in this wallet is 8 or 9 cards.

Hermès Calvi. Simple as can be. This is my daily wallet. No card slots but easy to get cards out.
If you must have card slots and a bit more room, the compact Hermes Silk'In is also great. Some of the Comme des Garcons compact wallets have card slots also and there are several designs from which to choose.

Mine too. Every few years I get a new one as a new color strikes me, but all the old ones are fine with daily use. So easy to get things in and out of.

Check Smythson London

Thank you for the suggestion - I'd never heard about this brand but was quite impressed with the prices. I looked through the website and while nothing really jumped out at me, I think this is going to be one of those cases where I'd really want to be able to see/touch the item in person before making a purchase, since I don't want to deal with the hassle of online returns.

I did see that they have a storefront in New York, though, so if I'm ever there...

I love my Taigarama coin card holder from the LV men's line!

It has 4 card slots on the front, a zip pocket and a slip pocket!

Thank you kindly for the suggestion. It does look great and super functional, but it looks too similar to a card holder I just purchased. I didn't think to look in a men's collection, though, so this is something I'll keep in mind as I continue browsing.

Prada & Bottega Veneta bifold wallet. Both have snap closure, 3 (or more) card slots, slip pocket, and coin compartment.

The Prada bifold wallets look lovely. I also quite like Prada's Saffiano leather - I've had a clutch/evening bag that was gifted to me many years ago that still looks brand new. I don't intentionally go out and rough up my stuff of course, but it's nice not having to worry too much about wear making it look too dingy over time.

The BV ones are also quite cute - nothing stood out to me and I'm not a fan of the weave-pattern look, but they are certainly in the correct size range and have all the features that I'd want to have in a compact wallet, without being too bulky.

Thank you for these suggestions! I think 10 cards in it is probably excessive for me (I think I need closer to 4-6 card slots or that capacity, as i like to include my ID, hospital card, and sometimes business cards alongside actual credit cards). The Furla Favola small wallet is promising, so I will definitely check that out - not sure how I feel about the Jacquard fabric (vs leather) but I do like the size.

I have an LV Rosalie and I think it’s perfect, nice and small but stores everything I need. I’d definitely recommend taking a look

Louis vuitton Victorine or Rosalie for more compact. The Victorine is amazing. Small but had everything a big wallet does. I highly recommend checking it out

Another vote for the LV Victorine.

Thank you for the LV suggestions! I actually like how compact the Rosalie is, but unfortunately I am not a huge fan of the canvas prints, and on top of that I also heavily dislike both of the color options (pink and fuchsia). If they had other options I definitely would consider it - I like the small profile.

The Victorine wallet though - so lovely! I like how the Monogram Empreinte Leather looks and could definitely see myself owning any of the color options that I see online. The Moulin Rouge especially - love that flash of red on the edges, and I LOVE that bold scarlet as well.

I tried stopping by an LV store on Sunday and it was SO busy and packed with people... I'll probably have to wait until I get the chance to visit during a weekday and after the holidays. :noworry:

Check out launder too https://shop.launer.com/101-06/101-06-small-leather-logo-purse-royal-blue

I have a vintage dark red full-size version

Thank you for the suggestion! I like the simple look but not loving the tab closure.

I think the Hermès Calvi is a little too simple for me (though I like the idea of it), but the Hermès Silk'In Compact Wallet is SO beautiful...! Such a simple exterior but what a surprise upon opening the wallet. That gorgeous pop of color inside is exactly something that would bring me a little bit of joy during the day when using it.

It has just enough card slots and the shape is certainly within the range I'd want for a compact wallet. And, I also like the zip closure - it feels more secure to me, though I certainly don't object to button/snap closures.

Now, if only I can work up the nerve to walk into an Hermès... it's a brand that is very intimidating to me.

Nonsense - I've been to Hermes stores all over the world and they've always been very accommodating. The last time I went in, I was wearing a yoga outfit and sneakers!
I don’t think people should be intimidated by any brand. At the end of the day they are a business and they need to sell. You will find rude and friendly SAs everywhere. This comes down to the personality and not the brand. Last time I walked into hermes I was in sneakers and had my 1 year old in his stroller with me. Only bought a tie for my husband but spent more than an hour in the shoe and leather department just browsing and trying on stuff. The SA was super friendly and we chatted about life and kids. Very relaxed and “normal “ experience
