That makes sense. I can’t seem to wrap my mind how the metal can’t survive the heat of a dishwasher having such high melting points.does the low heat cause it to turn dull?
I'm not really sure; maybe something to do with how thin the coating of metal is on the porcelain, or the potential abrasion/chemical reaction with the dish liquid? Even commercial dishwashers are generally designed to operate at temps lower than general melting points and the washing and rinsing chemicals are designed to work with those temps to meet health code standards. Presumably if you're handwashing, you're using some sort of 'mild' soap that's not likely to pose a chemical problem, and you're letting any sort of sticky sauce soak to loosen it rather than grabbing for the steel wool and going at it!

My kitchen brigade consists of me; my dishwasher gets a work out and my copper pans have a patina like well-loved fauve barenia!

Adding: I don't wash the copper in the dishwasher! My point was that I just let it go; I'm low maintenance....that way

We hosted a dinner party this past weekend and my girlfriend happened to take a couple pics! I think this is the set you are starting, right @forgetmenot301 ...?

What a nice spread you have! Definitely motivated to get the presentation plate 😂

Does H change tableware designs every year? I was wondering if I should get 6 plates—we don’t host a lot and there’s just three of us, toddler included; and with our current setup we haven’t hosted friends for two years now. Thought of just getting three first then more plates when we get back to welcoming people at home (lol?) but if they’d phase these out next year..

I have tried washing a mug gilded at the base.. and it did sort of dull/wash off. But this was after dishwashering it repeatedly (first time it happened didn’t stop me it was more of oh well might as well 😂)

I've had platinum rims disappear on fine china and crystal. (I am a heathen and throw everything into the dishwasher.) I assume it's because it's just painted on and wears off with any real friction. The actual pattern is baked on in the kiln and so doesn't wear easily. But any later-hand-painted details (like Lenox is known for, IIRC) will come off.

Ah, a fellow heathen

The “pattern baked on the kiln” makes sense.. I remember my grandma’s indestructible plates with Parisian paintings/designs

Hi everyone! Im looking for styling inspiration of H plates/homeware. Our entire kitchen has glass upper cabinets. A cursing and a blessing all in one (keeps me super organized ). Does anyone have pictures they could share? I have a complete set of bone china from my grandmother so I do not need or want a complete h set. I love the idea of collecting pieces I love here and there to display in our cabinets and shelves around our home. Anyone else mix and match on display shelves or in their kitchen? Also, does anyone have any plate stands or devices they’d recommend?
Oh I wish I could have a nice place to display them but my principal of H is “buy them use them”. So I can enjoy them every day or night. They are in my cabinet, drawers just like regular dishes.:biggrin: Sorry I can’t help.btw I don’t have small children anymore so I don’t afraid they will break them. But if my kids has kid then I would put them in display ( maybe):angel:

Thank you.

I always err on the side of having more than I need versus less - just in case. I would have a full set of six because, well, you never know who might show up, and you never know when H will decide to discontinue. ;)

Same here! We use ours. Kiddos are 9-14 so no *significant* worries of breakage, but ya know. Stuff happens. Part of life - the pieces are too pretty not to use. :sweatdrop:

I will definitely buy to display and use them haha! I’ll just have to keep them far away from the little hands around my house
