I agree the heels today are much thinner and thus are a bit different to the heels from 30 years ago.
Almost all the 100mm+ designer heels have a steel rod in the middle of the heel which is almost impossible to break.
Yes the heel may separate from the shoe (which has only happened once ever to me) or even bend but I think breaking the heel is nearly impossible.
