There are so many different types of bag owners out there. One group - a very sweet and lovely one - are the squirrels that live on the Mulberry tree.

ImageUploadedByPurseForum1476513641.504456.jpg

Always good humoured, swishing and hopping through their busy life, full of energy and fun. In high spirits they collect the prettiest nuts - *cough* Mulberrys.

Some squirrels have an impressive storage. And agonise with other squirrels about pruning their nut - *cough* Mulberry - collections.
As it is very hard for every squirrel to let go of nuts - *cough cough* Mulberrys - that might come in handy again, as we squirrels fear the hassels of selling our beloved items, and as we just do not know where to start purging I thought a Squirrel Support Thread would be a great help.

So here you are, fire away, squirrels. Tell your doubts about selling bags just before winter. Share your excitement about finally letting some of your unused nuts - *cough* Mulberrys go. Ask for and give advice, post your beloved keeper bags that you will never get rid off, confess new purchases (ups), help others to start selling and chat about life in general on and offside the Mulberry tree.

Great thread Ludmilla!

When pruning one's collection, my advice is to start with the ones that are definite keepers.......for whatever reason........e.g. first bag, maybe is was a present, that you can't let go of for sentimental reasons, or a bag so lovely that, even if rarely, or never, used you want to keep it because it delights your eye and makes you feel happy, or a bag that it always your go-to bag which never lets you down.

Once you have your definite keepers stash, then start on the ones that are left........try them on and try them out.......do they fit your lifestyle and, very importantly, are they comfortable and easy to wear so that you will reach for them again?

Bags are to be used and enjoyed.....but some of us are collectors, and some of us don't see the point in having a bag that is never used, so we have different views but this will be a fab thread to follow and I think will help a lot of people consolidate their collection and maybe release funds for a new bag(s) or maybe something else?!

Hello my name is panda and I'm a squirrel.

Hello fellow squirrels! Nice to see you on this branch of the tree. Hope you are having a great weekend. [emoji4]

Thank you for your great advice MiniMabel. I can relate with many (if not) all things that you say.
I own 20ish bags. The total number is unknown as I am an expert in fooling myself. I am often told that I have too many bags, so my bad consience kicks in and I think I would feel better if I only had 10 bags. But I know that I would not have 10 bags for long. Esp. as I am already stalking some bags on the notorious pre-loved sites. I fear I would get the yo-yo bag dieting effect pretty soon. I am a squirrel and I need variety.
I have bags (looking at you Lazy Bays) that I have to have them. My Bays is lovely, but if I am honest too heavy for my back and I knew from the beginning that I won't use her very often. Nevertheless I will keep her for sure, because she is my favorite bag to look at, to touch and to sniff.
There are some bags that I like to let go, but I am still feeling too lazy to do so. I hope this thread can give me the motiviation to do so as those bags really do not work for me.

My confession is that I'm not much of a squirrel. (My name is Pessie and I have 8 bags ;-) ). If anything I'm probably too quick sometimes to not give things a chance - so whatever the other end of the squirrel spectrum is called - that's me :p However you asked us for our keepers so here is my keeper Mulberry, my small Antony in chocolate darwin - I use it every day when I walk the dog, it holds all I need and is light so I forget I'm wearing it when we're out. It also scrubs up well if I need a small bag for other occasions. I'll never sell it  It's a keeper because to me it's beautiful, tactile, and functional, and one I always reach for without needing to analyse why.

Hmm. Not sure what the other spectrum of a squirrel is... [emoji3]
But, it is great that you ladies without huge nut storages share your thoughts, too. 8 bags? This is soo impressive. I think I know 7 of them (3 Mulbs, 3 Hermes and 1 Celine). Do you still have the Postina? Or did you sell it?
Do your bags get used "equally" or do you have a bag that gets neglected? And one more question: do you have 8 bags, because you want a small collection or is it just a coincidence as you have found your perfect bags and you are bag content?

Your Antony looks so well loved and pretty. Definitely a keeper. [emoji4] I have to admit that I analyse what bag I should wear. It's a bit annoying sometimes. [emoji38]

My name is LouLiu and I am an addict [emoji48]

Many come and many go and often some come back - regrets yes there are a few!!

I sell when I feel guilty, but then can't resist another and another and......

Great thread Luds

Hehehe. I know the guilt aspect only too well I just haven't taken the step to sell, yet. [emoji3] Most of my bags are brands only known around here, so no resale value, which adds to my reluctance. [emoji85] You are much braver! Do you give your bags to consignment or are you shipping in the dangerous water of the Bay?

Great to have you on this thread!

Oops, oh no! I'm a mathematically challenged non-squirrel  I have 9! 3 mulberry, 3 hermes and 3 givenchy (I forgot the shark!), never had a celine though. I sold my postina because I found it too big for me, tbh I think the small size is much better. I've never owned a huge number of bags. I have regular clear outs because I just don't like having too many of anything, I feel weighed down somehow, if I'm cluttered up with too much stuff. Even if they're stored carefully things deteriorate with time and I'd rather use them and wear them out, or clear them! I use all the bags I have regularly, and whilst there one or two others I would like to add, I don't think I'll sell any of these in the foreseeable future.
Tpf can be dangerous, and since finding tpf I've definitely succumbed and bought bags that didn't work for me, and which I only ended up selling on. In general I try not to impulse buy these days, I've found I usually regret it.
I think this is a great idea for a thread - it's going to be very interesting reading everyone's different perspectives :-)

So far I've done ok in fleabay

I'm currently at (and really don't need anymore as they don't get used enough as it is)

1 Bal - would like 1 more....Croc city
1 Chloe - would like 1 more..... Navy suede Hudson
8 M's - likely to add 1 more before the YE and probs a small bays

SLG's & accessories don't count right?

I should move a few on as a couple haven't been used for a while, but as they have been discontinued, I just can't..... but I guess you all get that too

This thread is really interesting. I have read MiniMabel's tips and I am the classic collector. I buy a bag I love. Use it for a week and then decide it like it but don't love it. Example in question is my aubergine mizty tote. Bought for £375, mint condition and I mean mint. I use it for a week and put a scratch on the mulberry metal disc on the front. I get cross with myself for doing it (the scratch) and she's not beeen out since. Fast forward a year!!!! And I'm loathed to sell her because she's purple, I love the texture of the leather and the type of bag bit and roomy, but I just don't see how it fits in to my needs. Yes, yes, I know I should sell her, but I know I won't get my money back so my brain says keep her and get rid in 5 years of I don't use her.... argh my handbag brain is just rubbish....

What's wrong with me.... argh...

Thanks for your answer!

Hehehe. It is a great relieve that even the non-squirrels do not know the exact number of their bags. [emoji6] But, oh dear, I have mixed up Celine and Givenchy - not an expert of both brands. I knew that you have one (or two) Pandoras. I am sorry that the Postina did not work for you - I am still agonising if I should get the size you had. At the moment my prefered colour is sold out and I am safe.
I always admire people who do regular clear outs. Tbh my whole wardrobe needs a clear out. I started with my clothes, but I am still sorting through. The shoes will be next. My younger self has bought some pretty heels that my feet do not like...
Clearing out is very difficult for me. My whole family are squirrels. If a family member dies dear mother, brother and I will be there to drag away things no one else wants to store them away in our tree holes. My grandfather was the same, so it's definitely in the genes. And yes, stuff does weigh you down! [emoji85]
Do you have the one in-one out rule regarding your bags?
I agree that tpf is dangerous. It does not lure me into impulsive purchases, but it helps adding to the wishlist. The impulsive purchases I did happened irl stores and most of them did not work for me. Gladly, I can keep that in mind these days when I fall head over heals for a bag.

Nope, SLGs do not count. [emoji6]
10 bags is a very good number. And from my squirrel perspective there is no need to let any of them go. Esp. not the discontinued ones. [emoji3] I have come to terms that you (that is I) cannot use all of your bags equally. My poor dressier bags sit around a lot, because dressy occasions do not happen this often. Also, I have bags that I use in winter/summer. There are bad/good weather bags. Sometimes I am lazy and don't rotate for a month, sometimes I am crazy and rotate every day. I installed a "one bag one week" rule at the beginnng of the year, but I am not the Queen of the Land of Discipline...
So no, I do not use my bags on a regular basis, but I have stopped feeling guilty about this.

I like your wishlist! The Hudson (esp in suede is TDF). Hehehe. There might be a SBS on my wishlist somewhere, too. But, I am looking for the "heritage" one.

I think I will give the Bay a try. Starting with my not worn heels...

Nothing is wrong with you, dear Panda. My beloved pickle Alexa enjoyed a chill out year in her dustbag. [emoji58]
As for your gorgeous Mitzi... Do you still love her or is the scratch bothering you so much that you only like her? Is the scratch really this visible or are you just mad at yourself? If this bag were mine and I had to decide about keeping or letting go I would ask myself the following question: Why did I get that bag? Did I have certain occasions in mind when I bought her? Do those occasions actually take place in my life? If so, does Ms Mitzi really work on those occasions? And finally if she is working - is the scratch really that bothersome?
You already wrote that you cannot see how she fits into your needs. Hm. You only used her for a week. Maybe you should get her out today, ignore the scratch and use her every day until the end of this month. If it is a struggle to use her in this time span I would seriously consider to re-home her.

My mother is queen of the squirrels, nothing gets thrown away! Her wardrobe is like the rings on a tree, as you work your way back you go back in time to the early 70's when my parents bought the house. I'm sure that has a lot to do with how I am now. I don't have a one in one out approach, but I can see how that could be useful. I'm definitely slowing down in purchasing new bags and I'm saving for my next. I did give in to a bargain recently, but I wasn't happy with it and it went straight back - I found that a good reinforcement/reminder to myself to keep on track to buy wish list bags only.
