Splurging on bags, penny pinching elsewhere?

I splurge only on travels, food, purses, and furbabies

I don't spend money on mani or pedi since I found it a hassle to go back to get them redone/touched up every week

I don't do massage or facial because I don't see any improvements or change

I only own seven pairs of shoes, it's not by choice because I have a back problem so I can only buy one brand and the selection is sadly limited

Although I own a number of Burberry coats and Hermes sweaters, most of my clothes I bought from leather market in Italy, stores like Uniqlo or at outlets. Bottom line is they must look flattering on me and comfortable, and I don't need expensive designers for that

My car is 12 years old, I have no plans to change up when it's running just fine

I don't spend on jewelry, the only expensive jewelry I have is a Rolex watch

Except for the last phrase (I can´t stand to wear ANY wristwatch!), we could be twins in everything else you wrote about. No hairdresser either (they must really hate very long shiny natural hair by the way they always try to cut it all off and do weird stuff to it), but OTOH antique books and maps are my downfall...

I only got that watch because my new job at the time required us to wear watches above a certain price to convey our corporate brand image. I prefer using my cell phone as my watch. I share the same sentiments about hairdressers, I avoid going unless I have to.:smile1:

I stopped dyeing my hair five years ago and haven't cut it in two years (somehow no split ends!), and I definitely don't spend as much on clothes and shoes as I do on bags. When I shop for clothes and shoes I try to find stuff that is made of durable fabrics and leather, but it's rarely designer. Often when I find something I love that is on sale I buy one (sometimes two) of every color, and then I don't have to buy that specific item for a long time. Haven't bought jeans or shirts in about three years for example. I have no interest in jewelry (to my goldsmith sister's despair).

I'm not big on going out at night, usually when I see my friends it's at their house or mine, and I have one dinner date with my husband once a week. I don't have a car (never learned how to drive), I hate gyms so no gym membership fees, I don't feel the need for massages, facials, manicures etc, and while I try to eat healthy I don't really have any expensive tastes. I make my coffee at home and enjoy it on the bus from a travel mug. These aren't really things I do to specifically to save money, I just don't have a very expensive lifestyle and wouldn't want one either.

Besides bags, the only things I'd consider spending lots of money on would be art supplies, interior and travel. I don't have a studio space so the art supplies would just be sitting there, I can't remodel because we rent (although goodness, this place could need it), and I can't travel outside of the U.S. at the moment since I'm waiting for my Green Card (if I leave it would be seen as abandoning my application and I'd be stuck in Norway). So, bags it is! It might change in the future, but I have a feeling I'll be too busy with work to travel and paint, and we're not planning on buying a house anytime soon, so I have a feeling bags will be my thing for a while.

I can relate. I get my haircut once or twice a year in a very specific, but basic style and it's a battle the entire time as they try to convince me to some high-maintenance style.

I believe in buying right once. It saves money in the long run if I'm not replacing it constantly. But if it's not something that brings me joy, I spend as little on it as possible.
