Spend threshold for B/K/C

I hope this isn’t a controversial question. I’m really curious, and who else to ask but my fellow H lovers.

What monthly/yearly spend “qualifies” you as a VIP client? I still am not one to ask for much because I love the entire shopping experience. I do hope I get asked to put in a special order.
I do not have a precise answer to your question on what qualifies a shopper for vip status at Hermes, but to shed some insight that you do not need to be a VIP to do a special order. I am not a vip, kind of just buy what I loke and that is available to me, and i have done a special order. Sometimes it’s just about the SA knowing if you would like something that they do not have available. Hope this helps.

Yes, I think an SO depends on spending and relationship. By spending I mean buying history and consistency in spending. Of course, big ticket item and a product line they are focusing on counts.

When I received my SO invite, my SA said we have been shopping with the store and they will want to give us what we want.

Even in the US, I think this is a moving target that depends on what you buy; how often; your potential for greater spend; and your relationship. I’m not a VIP, but my SA likes my DH and me, and we’re pretty relaxed. I accept up to two offers a year from my US store, and, between both of us, we maintain 5X plus per offer. But, it’s not really a conscious thing; I don’t have a wish list; and, 5X is kind of where I simply stop counting. My SA knows what I have, and what I like, and selects stuff to show me based on that. There are times when I don’t buy much simply bc the items don’t speak to me. I’m mainly a RTW client, and I think SAs prefer them bc they can be counted on to shop, or at least look seriously, on a regular basis. In every premier brand, at least the ones I shop with, SAs do differentiate between RTW and what they usually refer to as first floor shoppers, which are mainly accessories.

ETA: @Lizzie2022 , DH and I share an acct, and it’s under his name. That is the case at FSH and our home store US Maison. (I occasionally shop in Asia, but have not asked for bags except a tpm for my mom). I believe it can be up to SA/SM discretion whether to exceed the QB limit. Last year, I accepted one QB from my home store, and two from FSH (All my SAs know about my QBs). I do have a VIP friend who accepts more than 2 per year from her US Maison. So, I believe that the QB limit is not set in stone for some clients. Some members here do report that their SAs suggest opening more than one account to get more bags. It just hasn’t been my personal experience, and I don’t want to worry about maintaining more than one acct. However, I have most of my bags already, and don’t foresee buying more than my usual. It sounds like your SA/SM organize things for you, and it works :)

Thank you for the insight. Do you and you husband have separate accounts so potentially you could get 4 bags a year? I always thought we were on one account, then I overheard the manager tell my SA to ring it up on my account? Hmmmm.

I collect a lot from the brand, but I too am a RTW client. So outfits include accessories from other departments, belts and shoes. The coats are to die for. :).

This . Your answer is on point. Loyalty is rewarded.

I think it depends on the SAs in the store and their overall clients as well as your individual (or couple) spend. I also think it has to do with what you buy - IMO furniture gets you there faster as it's a larger ticket item and it moves less often but RTW and other items can equally get you there. My SOs have been a hit or miss but nothing that I plan on nor ask for. I believe loyalty matters the most so even things I can find online, I will ping my SA first to see if she can get it for me or if I can't find my size at another H, I will send her a pic of the tag so she can track it down. To date I've been offered (and naturally did) 4 SO bags but for me it's more about me seeing a bag (or my husband wanting to get me a particular bag) and pinging our SO and asking about it and either that day or a couple days later she will let either of us know to stop in the store as she has something for us.

UM, maybe this is just my unpopular opinion, but you are not a VIP because you are a VVVIP. Hahaha, yup, I said it. BTW, VVVIPs earn their stripes because they are fun as heck to shop with, not PITAs and really enjoy the shopping experience.

However, to stay on topic, spend threshold for VIP is in the 6 figures yearly on non-QB over a number of years or at least the potential to spend consistently 6 figures on RTW, Home, FJ and other things a year. And to be nice. One does not need to be a VIP to get a SO.

This. Because if it’s fun for everyone you’ll be back, and spending. And if no one is having fun, why bother? To be sure, a lipstick once a month say, isn’t going to compete with a dining table and eight chairs in the coveted bag sweepstakes, but if the whole staff does the internal groan when they see you walk in, that’s not such a good thing. Spending some natural charm can help.

The reality is that the more we try to apply logic/rules to a system that relies on relationships and myriad factors that can't be quantified, the more frustrated we're all going to get. Because there isn't a formula. x + y ≠ QB or SO. If there's one thing I've pulled from the 76 pages here:
  • Spend money at H
  • Don't be a jerk
  • Develop a clear relationship with the brand
  • Be upfront but not aggressive
  • Follow the general guidelines for your region (US vs. Asia vs. Europe)
  • The bag will come
It's obviously and understandably so tempting to make it more complicated, or to try to create rules based on a couple of data points, but at a certain point, just buy stuff (stuff you want and like) and be patient.

Great list but I’d add one more…

Don’t be desperate

Or as the kids say….dont be thirsty…

Besides prespend, is there a time limit on when the next qb could be offered? I got my first one at the end of July, and put in my wishlist for my second. Spent quite a bit already since then, but wondering when I would next be “eligible” bc i just got one not too long ago~ it’s so hard being patient :P
My SA mentioned to expect it next summer but that’s so far away and my spend is already … a lot… thanks to a lot of the fj that was on my list and my store happened to have!
