Is the prespend higher for a blue box? What's the ratio?
Not all blue boxes are considered equal. Many (most?) are very difficult to sell as most clients tend to prefer a classic bag over a seasonal variant so I would actually not expect the ratio to be higher. They are also often higher priced which keeps the ratio low. Often it’s more a factor of length of tenure as the SAs expect that someone who has been shopping for years and already has coverage of the classics might be ready for something a “little different” to add to their collection. I’d expect 1:1 and a good relationship for most blue box bags. If there is a specific one you desire, definitely let your SA know so they can be on the lookout for you.

Absolutely true, acrowGURU! My SA actually said it is easier for him to get me a Blue Box bag than a regular leather QB, which is absolutely fine with me.

I concur with the experts above @haute okole and @acrowcounted! I got my blue box mini kelly at around 1:1 spend and it was not on my wish list at all (the blue box, mini kelly was on my list) and came as a surprise. The price was 2x a regular mini kelly (if I take the 2024 price lists on TPF), so I think the price point could be a factor when an SA considers you for one. I don’t think that was a factor when my SA considered me because I actually requested a blue box, just not a quota blue box (bolide on wheels)! In hindsight, maybe I should’ve put all the blue boxes I want on my wish list (like the Kelly en Desorde). I just didn’t think I was eligible so I didn’t bother because I don’t really spend $$$$ compared to others at my store. So basically, you miss 100% of all shots you don’t take!

ETA: regarding tenure, I’ve been shopping for 3-4 years now so I don’t know if I’m considered “established” but I definitely consider myself newer, especially since I space out my purchases.

Ah yes I recalled seeing this. Apologies for not being clearer. My question is more about whether SAs typically say, you can get the QB only if you buy xyz along with it today? (Maybe not explicit like that but strong hints?)
No, not in NY or Paris. In fact, my Paris SA has hinted the opposite, that she isn’t authorized to offer QBs today (having nothing to do with a clients spend) Making the issue more her, than me lol
Do Mini Kelly's have a higher spend ratio compared to Birkins? When I speak to my SA about a mini kelly I feel like she makes it seems impossible so I was wondering why
Yes, I average 5X between accepted bag offers, and it took a while. It didn’t seem like my spend was an issue as much as the demand was super high, so I basically waited my turn. It’s also my opinion from reading the thread and talking to SAs that they are held for regular clients— those that won’t disappear after an accepted offer. There are a lot of TPF posts to the effect that a single one time high spend isn’t going to do it.
Is the prespend higher for a blue box?
Agree with @acrowcounted and @haute okole and @authenticbbq
But as these members have pointed out, BB bags can be significantly more money, so the standard ratio X ~ 10K usd
doesn’t apply

Hi all, do SAs typically suggest you buy other items (higher priced categories, not twillies or bag charms) when picking up a QB?
I’ve been told that SAs at my store are incentivized (or pressured) to make other sales along with the QB. This is to ensure that the customer won’t stop shopping after obtaining a QB. There’s no obligation to do anything of course, but I know my SA always appreciates it when I pick up something along with the QB.

It does sound though, that you have a genuine love for the brand, that always counts more than we think. Some may try to fake it but it usually shows.

What an amazing compliment, thank you so much!! I really have grown to love the brand as I learn more about it so glad to hear it comes off that way 🥰

To keep it on topic though: in terms of spend ratio to get the blue box offer for myself - I realized the other day that I waited 2 months after I "officially" asked my SA for a handbag (I say "handbag" rather than mini kelly because my list was pretty open imo), so it was quite a quick timeline after asking. What I did do within those two months was visit twice and spent about $5k each visit. This was really a ramp up from my normal "pre-spend" because I'm typically someone who visits every 1-3 months and spends somewhere between $200 - $2k each visit. I try to be patient and understanding, which I think my SA appreciates so I normally go quite awhile spending before seriously asking for bags from my SA.

Hi! It’s been almost three years since my first QB. I’ve slowed down quite a bit on spending but have gone into the store a few times since then and had made a few remote purchases - all in all came out to a small amount of spending, though. I am now able to start going back in again this month and hoping for a 2ng bag anytime in the later part of 2025. Will my pre-spend still count for my next bag with the small spending over the last two years (counting onwards from first bag offer) and going forward? I’ve read that pre-spend resets every 1-2 years or that does not matter? I do have a great relationship with my SA and she knows I’ll be coming in soon or more often in the new year.

There is no set spending thresholds. Its just a measure of competitiveness. So while it doesn't actually "reset", it also doesn't help much against the competitive spend of other clients more recently. In other words, someone spending $20k over the past three months will get the offer much sooner than someone who spent $20k over the duration of a year, two years ago, if that makes sense. I would emotionally prepare for the reality that the earlier spend won't help you much but hopefully it will have helped you build the good relationship with your SA and the goodwill will continue in the future.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. This is very helpful!

I don’t think it resets but if it’s been too long it may not show up on their system Just go back in and spend

There was a similar question earlier in this thread and a response that was helpful to me was that your full history of spend is always visible to your SA. From my understanding there’s not an actual counter that resets at any point.

I am back for more counseling. Spoke with my wonderful SA a few weeks ago and she said a bag would be coming for me. She tried for the end of 2024 but it wasn’t possible. I have been shopping with Hermes for a year now and am at 1.5x spend. We get along great - she is very nice.
Our last conversation a few days ago, we spoke some more and she said I would get a bag in 2025. She didn’t mention when- like is it 1 month? 12 months? IDK and I didn’t want to be too pushy because it doesn’t sound like their timing is set. I also asked if it would even be possible to hit 2 QB in 2025 and she said it would be quite difficult because of the number of people that want bags. Le sigh.
So we also chatted about what I wanted. We decided on a B and she indicated that it would be easier for me to secure a B25 over a B30 and that it would be a neutral color.
IDK why I am posting- just sharing my journey and trying to be patient with this process honestly. Waiting for my first bag is killing me!
