Spend threshold for B/K/C

I think one of the challenges of attempting to calculate (or, for that matter, determine what is the required) ‘pre-spend’ or spend ratio is that there may well be offers of bags that are not accepted before one accepts a bag. Do you calculate your pre-spend based on how much you spent before you were offered a bag that you did not accept? Or do you calculate based on all $$$$$ spent before buying the next bag? While I do not track spending per se, I do have a sense of how much I’ve ‘given’ to Hermès, as I typically use one credit card for those purchases. By the time I got my second bag from my former SA, I’d say I’d spent about $25K (or 2:1 based on cost of a B30) but she started offering me bags well before that. So is my prespend 2:1? Or is it lower?

Due to the above, I just don’t bother tracking how much I spend and figure that if I spend, I’ll be offered bags eventually.
Each bag offer is separately approved by the store management and this approval is made by reviewing the client's profile at the time immediately prior to the offer. Thus, it is valid to calculate the prespend based on everything up to that offer, not to prior declined offers. After all, 10K spend might be appropriate for a B35 offer that is declined but it would be unfair to say that it was qualifying for the eventual accepted B25 offer made 6 months and 15k later.

I agree about the hold. I have a strong suspicion mine was held bc right after I made a big purchase, she called me an hour later to go back bc mine "arrived." I cannot def say it was, but sounds like it. I feel that SOs are hard, at least for my home store. You have to have enough pre spend to get the offer, then have enough to receive the offer. UGH
Mine did the same thing; M2M suit and SO arrived the same day a few hours later. I really don't think it is a coincidence. Maybe this should be in UO, but I think they get the SO back fast, like in a month, and hold them for a while to build mystique or wait until you have spent enough.

Doubt this is true for all. I’m waiting on an SO for 2 1/2 years and counting and during that time have gotten several QB and non QB bags. I’m waiting on a non QB SO.

I was about to say that this holding a SO hostage until I spend more would make me livid. I always assumed that once you placed the SO all that was left to do was pick it up.

I agree and think this holding the SO back is just correlation and conspiracy not actual fact. I have heard some clients report that their SA says something like “oh your SO came in. When you pick it up on Thursday it would be really helpful if you bought that leather coat along with it…” or that the SA presents a tray of jewelry choices with the SO box as a VERY strong (dare I say, offensive) hint. But regardless, all merchandise that is in the stockroom over financially significant deadlines (end of month, end of quarter, end of year) counts against the store so no store is trying to hold these bags back deliberately. In fact, my most recent SO was paid for completely remotely and shipped to me sight unseen because my next planned trip to the store was more than a month away. (And I barely spend at this store so it certainly wasn’t a vip exception!)

You are amazing! Thank you so much for running the numbers. For my own sanity, I probably won’t analyze mine. However, if I were to run them, I wouldn’t be surprised that mine looks similar to yours. I have a good “impression” of my spends, as my H receipts are organized chronologically. I can see what were bought in between each QB.

For the sake of comparison, do you mind clarifying if the ratio you use is the actual price of the bag or the round up number of 10k?
I think it’s helpful for others and it would also satisfy my curios mind greatly.
I used the actual price of the bag! "Total $ spent on all goods: Total $ spent on QB"

As far as spending for SOs/holding back SOs is concerned, I bought two Kellys after I placed my last SO (I *think* one was at end of the year and one was in the next calendar year, so not quite two in a year?). I picked up my SO in late spring/early summer this year, and I did not spend anything meaningful in that store prior in 2024 - I am not sure I bought anything at all. My SA just said "Hey, do you wanna come in?" and we figured out a time, and when I walked into the private room, they had my SO.
I would be furious and disappointed if someone tried to hold me up for more spend while picking up a 10K€ bag :shrugs:

I have another SO outstanding at a store that I only visit once a year or so (that said, I have been a customer there for well over 10 years now). I can't imagine that they are going to ask me to trawl through FJ or something when I pick it up, but, you never know!

I do wonder if some of this behavior is assumption that newer customers who get an iconic bag will stop buying, or only buy as "prespend" for bags, whereas they know that some of us are firmly on the H-ook forever 🤣

I think it depends on the SA, the store, the country. I do not think any SA in Europe would hold SO expecting purchases since they don’t work on commission, but I can see that happening in the U.S., Asia...

I am coming here hoping for some Hermes counseling LOL!!!!! We should have a counseling thread maybe 🤔

I started with Hermes again after a number of years away from buying at the store. Was not after a bag previously- more jewlery like CDCs and some shoes. Starting in January this year I started back at the store and buying things that I would love and of course, hoping to be offered a B or K. I am now 11 months in and probably spent close to twice as much as a B or K would cost. My SA hasn’t asked for my wishlist nor has she hinted that anything will be offered to me. I have been quite polite and I get along great with my SA. I have been patient but I am getting SO tired.
I am a really forward person but I know Hermes doesn’t really work like that so I have been playing the game, buying things I love and waiting politely and patiently. Below is the list of things I have purchased over the past 11 months 😆

Jan-Nov:
4 belts
6 shawls and scarves
1 sweater dress
2 shoes
1 hat
2 pegase rodeos
1 scarf ring
1 mosaic tray

I also got a Picotin in the first month of my journey (January). The Pico is not included in my almost 2x spend.

Would love to hear your opinions, thoughts and any counseling you can offer me before I drop out of this game due to mental anguish lol 😂 Thank you!

Ask her! “So I was wondering…my dream has always been to have an x bag. Do you think it would be possible for me to acquire one soon?”

Hi ..
So I have/ had almost the same story as yourself
( 2015 -2016 paris was the first interest purchasing Hermes and I got a walk in b35 ) Then life got in the way , cv19 etc and then fast forward 2024 July reignited my H passion. I've been a couple of times this year but didn't get any SA ( the one I got ignored me lol and I have similar prespend as you ) .
Then in Nov 24 paris voila.....

Hold on and let of steam here if need be .

Advice/ experience seems to vary greatly here but it should come soon I hope for you ..

I'm a direct person and the different SA that carry out my purchases I just asked if I can get a b/k .
That's how I got mine .
I see on here some people don't want to ask directly about bags etc but do want one and dance around the subject but that's not me .

In fact when I got my b25 I asked at checkout to the sa and leather sm when can I expect to get another 😂.

I would give you just two pointers to start. For sure hint that you are very interested in a X bag in Y colour Z size in the future and then also look at one or two purchases in a different category such as Watches, Fine Jewellery and more Maison, which I notice does not feature in your purchase history yet. Might help your SA. HTH! 😉

Thank you! It does! I was considering some dishware. I am not super interested in their watches and fine jewlery though. Think that will negatively affect?
