Hi all, I finally found time to bring my speedy 20 de to my local store. They told me the peeling is due to normal wear and tear and it’s confirmed not a quality issue.

For my case, they offered to repair all the piping and the side tabs FOC one time. So after the repair, if the peeling happens again, they would not be able to repair for free.

I am overall happy with the experience in store today assisted by 2 lovely SA. However I am disappointed to be told that this is normal due to wear, especially I have only been wearing it for less than 2 weeks in total. Hope the leather would be in better condition after the repair.

That’s great that they are taking care of you however less then 2 weeks should not be showing any wear yet. I’m thinking your bag may be going back and forth swaying, causing friction against something as you wear it crossbody. Maybe against a belt buckle perhaps, or entering in your car with the bag worn as crossbody so it rubs against surfaces of your car perhaps? Any embellishments on clothing or belts can do damage to your bag or just walking thru narrow doorways or walking in between things and your bag rubbing against a wall or rough surface will scrape your bag. I’m a bit extra so it’s pretty automatic for me to protect my bags as I come near objects or people now as I really scratched up my canvas on a Speedy Giant before that was caused from a bracelet of all things. It was right on the front of the bag pretty much in the center. I thought I would just throw some ideas out there just in case so you could ponder. I would hate for it to happen again to you. I do think the bag is rubbing up against something as two weeks of just wearing the bag would not do that unless it is being scrapped or having hard friction constantly against something.

Yeah I have been thinking of what could possibly contributed to the wear such as mine. I normally wear soft material clothing and never wear belt. I’m thinking on the right side wear might be cause by going in and out of places such as car, but I always place it in front of me whenever I am going in or out. As for the left side, I have no answer to that as that is the area where any sort of abrasion could least happen as I am wearing crossbody and the bag will sit on my right above hip area. Also not sure if the warm weather in Japan made the leather “softer” and thus easier to cause the leather to rub off easier.

Comparing to my Speedy 20 monogram, which I used more often, the wear is unexpectedly better.. I even had scratches here and there (accidentally caused by my backpack’s strap). Plus the scratches on piping look much less obvious. I’m thinking it could be because monogram piping is vachetta leather without a layer of different color leather.

I don't think the leather type makes the difference, I have both DE & Mono bags, including multiple Speedy & Speedy bs, the DE is the ones look newer than Mono (as it should be). here are the pictures of 4 corners of my oldest Speedy b 30 DE bought from the LV store beginning of 2018, I had took it to trips too, as you can see, no wear in corners, my other Speedy b 25 DE is newer 2020 so look brand new too.

Yes hard to say. Well thankfully the piping will get replaced at no charge for you and hopefully it doesn't happen again. I have a Speedy DE Classic with zero wear however I carry it top handle.

I love how the DE just never seems to age, but with that said, I still love my vachetta too! :)

I brought my brand new speedy 20 de with me to my Japan trip. I’ve used it for 8 days and was shocked to see how battered it has become. I’m sure I don’t abuse it but I do carry it crossbody the whole time.

Wow. That’s quite a lot of wear. I brought my eclipse 25 with me to Tokyo and didn’t experience that kind of wear.

This was a chinese?! exclusive collection in June/July, where you could select a spedy 18 I think and attach certain charms and stuff to it :) Quite pricey but right now it never released somewhere
