Hate to say this a HAC 40 or a B40 is a travel bag. Carrying it around daily is going to look off. It's going to end up on a shelf not used. Like you, I was after a B40. Then I saw the 35 and it was the perfect in between of what I wanted. Ive posted on here what I can fit in it and how it looks, were the same height. Good luck.
Gents, could I ask for your advise on bag sizes please?

I’ll be in Paris for a couple of days and I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up but one better comes prepared, right?

I am 5‘9 or 1.74m and not slim (see picture in my first Hermes outfit for reference).

I was always dreaming about a HAC cargo which I believe would be a 40 and was also thinking about the Birkin in either 40 or 35. The HAC32 is not more, correct?

I don’t want the bag to look like a travel bag. It should be possible to bring it to the office, so needs to fit my laptop and I’d don’t want to look ridiculous when I take it for dinner and or drinks after work.

What size would you recommend?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this too. I’ve been through some of your posts on this and have to say your B35 suits your frame really well. Great Style btw!

I guess I have to see and try. If I even get the chance :)

You can request to try on for size, the various bags they have in the leather department for this very purpose. I think a 35 would cover most bases and suit you well. Any good SA would also be able to give you advice. Good luck then.

I agree. A 35 is likely to be a more useful size all round.
The footprint of a 40 is quite large to have knocking around your knees.
Have you considered one of the Herbag variants?

+1 on this.

I don’t have a Birkin but always looked towards a 40. However, after having tried a 35 I would never even consider 40 ever again.

35 is really such a great size and fits everything, looks unisex/ masc (if that’s a concern), and should be great for work if it is appropriate in your office environment.

Personally, (after some great feedback from members on here), I even consider the 35 might be too big for me for everyday. I suggest you go and try the sizes available and think hard of how you intend to use the bag.
It’s a big investment so you want to get the most out of your purchase.

Thank you all for your suggestions, this is indeed super helpful. Also a good pint to let the SA know how I intend to use the bag and then ask for feedback.

I love the Herbag and would like to have the backpack version specifically. My local boutique did not order it but my SA was kind enough to have an eye on availability in other stores. But I’ll check in Paris this weekend as well just to be sure.

@justdennis84 , you should lead with your top ask, but it’s not just the aesthetics of the 35 versus 40. A 35B is significantly lighter. I also had an older mutant lol 32HAC that appeared to be a 35B even to H staff. While the shorter handle drop of the HAC is a bit more elegant to my eye, it’s much less practical. If you want a bag to transition for evening, I think even a 35 (which can double as a travel bag) is a bit bulky due to increased depth. I can get an IPad and slim full sized text book sized books into my 30B or even DHs sellier Evelyne 33. The latter has a slim, elegant profile.

If towards the end of your trip, you are certain you cannot get what you are looking for, I would approach the desk re the possibility of a herbag backpack. i just don’t advise doing so if there is the remote chance you could get an leather appt. Some TPFers post that if you get a non QB earlier in your trip (even as a walk in), in a subsequent appt on the same trip, an SA might say you are not eligible for a QB bc you have already received a bag. Good luck!

880 thank you for your insights. What you said is very important because it means I have to revise my strategy.

I’ll defiantly want to shop RTW. Assuming that I won’t get an official appointment I wanted to ask the RTW SA if they could ask if an Leather SA is available. I thought it makes sense for this part to lead with the info I’d be interested specifically in a Herbag a dos. But if I am understanding correctly that might work but then there won’t be an additional Birkin.

So better to start with the Birkin if the RTW SA can get me in touch with the leather department. Thanks so much for this!

I am forgetting who asked this awhile ago, but someone was searching for the strappy sandals from the SS23 runway- they popped up on Hermès Bonbon the other day

I can’t tell if they’re TOO strappy and intense for me. I am typically a Birkenstock guy and the idea of a Grecian inspired sandal is so chic, but not sure I’m able to carry it off

Any other thoughts?

Agree with this as well. I would consider a 30 as well for a more versatile. My B is not for everyday use. I wanted it to be both day and travel approved.

@fonnas ! I took another detour to your IG! I didn't realize that one of our resident style gurus has a Cityback!

I have been eyeing it on the website since it was available for a few days but didn't pull the trigger because of the price.

What do you think about it? Do you use it for everyday/work use? Is it hardy enough for the travails of everyday life? I assume it fits a laptop ok, and is easy to get in and out of (unlike the lovely but more cumbersome kelly depeches/hac a dos, for example)? Any style comments?

If you don't want the bag to look like a travel bag, then go with the Birkin 40 or 35. I love my two HAC 40s but they look like travel bags.
