Snakeskin - good, bad or just plain ugly?

It comes and goes as a hot trend thang...

I have (fake) snakeskin ankle boots and a belt too. Both look fabulous after 6+ years! But I would probably not carry snakeskin as a bag as it does tend to show wear and tear and for me just doesn't look right in a bag. Maybe in a small wristlet or clutch.

I love python, but I'm afraid of the peeling in humid weather.

I spoke with my tanner about the durability issues of python, and he demonstrated that the skin is really indistructable. I have tried to pull the scales off, etc. nope, they aren't going anywhere.

I find myself strangely drawn to and yet repelled by snakeskin.
I'm the same.

Eh, snakeskin is okay to me, in small quantities. I wouldn't go for a huge bag, made entirely of snakeskin. Maybe a normal bag with snakeskin accents.
This is what I have too.....a bag with snakeskin trim only.

I think snakeskin can look good depending on which bag it's on- the details, size, color, etc. I myself prefer just regular fabric or leather bags though. I'm not so into exotic leathers.

I LOVE the look of a classic bag in tan/grey/creme python. It matches everything and looks amazing if it's a quality bag. I've been looking for the right one forever, and haven't found it yet (although I hear Jimmy Choo has a great one for fall). I really don't like the colored snakeskins though as it just looks so unnatural.

I also despise embossed python or croc. They make me cringe. If it's not real, why fake it?

I have a Gucci python clutch...loooooooooooooove it!!! But it has started peeling a bit in some places. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Oh no, I am sorry to hear that it is peeling. I wonder why, certainly, I don't want to jump to conclusions and blame the tanner. Are the scales falling off, completly, or just pulling away a bit around the curves?

Sorry, but it totally gives me the creeps, ick, ick, ick, fugly. (and this is beyond any animal rights sentiment, in fact I guess I'd rather have everyone buying bags made of snake than those made of cow or rabbits -- I really just don't like the looks of it). I guess it just seems too "real" -- like you are literally carrying around a dead lizard.
