I'm sorry the Edie wasn't great quality, but that is wonderful you found another bag with better leather! Which color is your Dooney and Bourke? I've never seen an Edie up close in person. I'll have to see if I can spot one out and about and without staring too much. DooneyDog, they had my dark teal Lexy for $117 in the sale, and I missed it! They also had the chain one in metallic dark teal, but I resisted because I know the chain will make the bag too heavy for me, and I'd rather wait for the regular dark teal. I do like the metallic dark teal and have a mini Christie in that, but for Lexy I want the non-metallic version. I have no idea how metallic wears. I ordered the dark teal Small Kelsey. I have you to thank for pointing out the Kelsey to me! Thank you! It was "amost gone" and my order still hasn't shipped; so I hope I do get it after all. This teal color just makes me so happy. I wonder if they'll have another sale for President's Day and add back my dream bag Lexy or Small Christie in dark teal. (That one also sold out before I got on the sale! I should check my email earlier.) ;)
Hi! I was just wondering how you ended up liking the Kelsey. I keep eyeing it on the Coach Outlet site. I also think the Surrey Carryalls look awfully cute with their side zips.

If you like structure, I don't recommend it. If you like the shape and the softness/slouchiness, the pebbled leather is nice for a factory bag (but thinner than the Prairie version). It might be even better now since it's been a year since I've touched one. It makes a great travel bag if you want something that can expand as needed. It is extremely comfortable and lightweight, practical, and holds so much more than it seems. I wish I loved it for those reasons, but I need some structure. If you have vintage (like your Cashin) and glove tanned bags, you might be disappointed unless you try it on and find you really love it. I hope you can try one out. I haven't seen the Surrey. I just looked and that shape is more my style. It reminds me of the Christie, and I love the shape & structure of that.

Thanks for all the info! I love my structured vintage pieces but I also love a good floppy bag too. The online sales are tempting but I think I will wait til I can get to an outlet. As you said it is good to try a bag on.

Well then this happened... The Ivy Lexy was another bag I've been eyeing and I snapped one up. All I'm going to say is I REALLY needed some retail therapy today! (Edit: Oops I meant to make this as a quote reply but it did not work. Sorry!)

This looks like such a rich green! I didn't know I liked green so much until Coach. Please share a picture when you get it. I hope you love the bag! It's a great in between structured/soft bag. If one of the shoulder straps slides off, and you haven't already tried this, slip one over the other as you put the bag on, and they stay in place.

Thanks for the tip! I LOVE dark green leather! 2 of my favorite vintage Dooneys are in the color Fir Green: they're lighter than this but are what sold me on green as an "honorary neutral". The funny thing is I've been looking for a more spring-summer colored bag: pinks, blues, tans... but I loved this green! I also think with the right outfit it could work almost year round. There is an ebay listing up for the same bag where a girl is modeling it with a casual slightly more spring-like outfit and that convinced me it is more versatile than I first thought. I will def share pix in one of the new purchase threads when it arrives!

That's a neat thought about green and makes sense that it works in spring like the grass and trees everywhere! Fir Green sounds beautiful.

These are my Fir bags. In natural light as shown here they favor a kelly green slightly and in artifical light they look more forest/hunter. Dooney's dark Ivy green is very similar in tone to Coach's Ivy. I have yet to get my hands on a vintage Dooney Ivy. Probably why I love this Coach so much!

This green is stunning! I can see why you love these!

Vintage All Weather Leather Dooneys are very, very addictive. There was such a neat array of styles and color combos it is very easy to fall down the "gotta get this one next" rabbit hole! I have 7 vintage AWL bags --and I gave away 2 others. With my vintage Coach collecting I've been more selective and have carefully curated a nice little collection.

I got into purses late ( just over a year ago!) and it is so fun to learn all about what's out there. I never noticed brands before I got into Coach and now keep hearing about the amazing D&B leather. :amuse:

I’m not a pattern girl either. I tend to stay with solids and classic styles. I’m retired so I don’t get dressed too often but when I do I can pull anything out of my closet without looking dated. I didn’t get anything at the outlet but I did order Edie 31 in saddle. She is on sale for $140 off retail. The other colors were $350. I hope I keep her but I won’t know until she arrives. I’m partial to Dooney’s quality even though there are a few Coach styles I love..Rogue in particular but $900 for a bag is way more than I want to spend

I love this that you can pull anything out without looking dated! That's what I'm aiming for! I'm in my mid-40's but only recently adding bags as part of my wardrobe. So I want to make sure the styles will remain classy and timeless. The last one I got is a grey birch Coach Drifter Carryall. It's an unusual color for me, and I think it looks so classy. I got it on sale at 6PM.com. It's still there, and now they have one in Oxblood, priced a little higher. I'm with you wanting to get the nice ones for the best price. I will check out Dooney. I think I got stuck with Coach because I love so many of the bags and went a bit shopping crazy during sales. I'd love to see your collection! Do you have it posted here? I haven't taken pictures of mine yet, but I'm planning to and then putting it all on here.

Hi! Just had to chime in on this old convo because I totally agree with what you both were saying about curating a timeless wardrobe! There used to be an old episode of the Phil Donahue Show up on youtube (I just looked for it and DRAT! it is gone) and it was an interview with Audrey Hepburn. It is from the late 80s or early 90s and I remember seeing it when it originally aired. Anyway, when I watched it again online a few years ago I was shocked by how everyone in the audience looked so hideously dated with their hair styles and clothes, but Audrey (her hair in a bun and wearing a simple tailored black suit) looked like she could walk down the street today and look wonderful. The buttons and shoulder pads on the suit did look a little "of the era" but compared to the audience members-- wow! It really left an impression on me and I consider it the perfect example of how you can dress in a way that is fashionable but won't go out of style in two minutes! I found a picture from the episode.

Hi VV! She is a great example! I still need to work on this and find the ideal balance between comfort and beauty.
