My collection is pretty much 50-50! I feel that structured bags are more versatile and can go with both dressy and casual outfits, or suitable for day to night. On the other hand I find slouchy bags more carefree and dont show as much wear as my structured bags; I don’t have to worry about them “losing their shape”. I love thick smooshy leather.

Most of mine are inbetween=
structural design, but leather pliable & not stretched tight/rigid.

Let me demonstrate why I choose this:

Oh my--imagine the scuffs & visible bag damage. From life with crazy, clumsy me.

Smooshy hermes vicster, being crushed into brick corner by leg.

Look how bag bends, adapts & avoids damage? Winner:tup:

People are similar, imo.
A few wrinkles with adaptability go farther than being afraid but pristine.;)

I like some structure in my bags, but they can’t be rigid. Slouchy bags always look good on someone else. I think they are very casual and cool. However, I feel like my stuff is in a trash bag. Everything just settles to the bottom. I adore the Givenchy Pandora, but I saw it in all of its slouchy glory, and now I just can’t.
Yes. That’s it. I feel like I threw my things into a trash bag and have to rustle around. It’s frustrating.

I like both too. I like my structured bags to be structured and my hobos to be undulating. Hobos and slouchy are more for the Summer and hand-held structured bags for year round.

It also has a lot to do with fashion. Fashion isn't just about colour and size, when I first joined tPF slouch seemed to be on the wane but the Bal and BV forums were still thick with "yummy"s and "smooshy"s describing new bags. I seemed alone wanting 'stand-up' leather. I never thought I'd see so many formal, structured bags but the whole Prada Saffiano leather and similar pressed leather on MKs and some YSL/SLP bags has taken over. As the the outfits get more casual the bags have become more formal.

Interesting...I like both types and everything in between. Depends on the occasion. I can’t wear super structured bags during the weekend. It just doesn’t go well with my jeans. Structured bags reserved for the office. Unstructured bags suit both weekday and weekend wear.

Yes I like the chewy, yummy, buttery soft leathers [emoji1] Err, I’m getting a bit hungry now

You make a good point with the fashion trends— when I think of slouchy bags I think of the ones from mid 00’s worn with Juicy tracksuits paired with ugg boots. And I find that stuff tacky and messy now . I hope the big saggy bag trend is buried deep in fashion hell and never returns. The slouchy bags people have posted in this thread I much prefer- they are neater, more subtle and have a bit more structure to them. Unfortunately, that fashion era has ruined slouchy bags for me . Maybe in another life..

When my DH buys earrings or whatever for me, he tells the sales people to help him find something for a banker. I am not a banker but that is my "get up", I look kind of uptight. So most of my bags are structured to fit. However, that is why I lust after slouchy bags. It is like satisfying my counter carefree ego or something.

this resonates with me, except the other way round - I like structured bags that counter-act my often casual and laid back style - I need something to counter-balance plus I LOVE these kind of juxtapositions.

I’ve been wondering this for a while. I see a lot of people on here using adjectives normally reserved for food to describe slouchy bags (yummy, delicious ). Makes me wonder if there’s some kind of biological or social reason for this :P. Personally I’m very averse to anything slouchy/saggy/wrinkly. I love high-quality thick leather but only if the leather is pulled tight into a neat structure. I also think structured bags suit my style better; slouchy bags are too casual for how I dress casually.

What’s your preference and is there a reason why you prefer either slouchy or structured? I’d love to hear people’s views!!

P.S. feel free to post pictures of the types of styles you like or own- we might all have different ideas of what is structured and what is slouchy! Haha
I actually was thinking about this just now and googled it and came to this thread! I was thinking for people who love slouch bags, it is acting sort of like a childhood security blanket?
And for people who love structured bag, it gives the feeling of order and organization?
I personally like a structured looking bag where the material is squishy, smooshy, and buttery.

Exactly this! I feel when we feel too confined, limited, restricted, we go for slouchy bags. When we feel disorganized, chaotic, uncontrolled, we reach toward for structured bags.
And for those who go for a little bit of both, we feel back and forth in our emotional state, or we are emotionally in the middle somewhere.
BUT I could be completely wrong. Maybe it's the opposite.

I think you may be on to something here. Personally, I can’t do completely unstructured. floppy puddle bags, but how much structure I want varies widely depending on the situation and my mood. Sometimes I want to feel compact and pulled together, other times I want more softness and room to expand (I feel dangerously close to another food analogy, lol!).

Yes to me, a slouchy bag is almost like a security blanket haha! They just give me a certain sense of comfort, but only if the leather is really soft! Otherwise I don't like them.
