La Mer has a new lighter gel cream for oilier skin. Has anyone tried this?

Yep. My neighbour works at the La Mer counter in HR, so she made me some samples when I asked about it.

I bought SKII a month ago thinking that I could "transform" my skin. For reference, I have oily/blemish prone skin. I'm 20 now, and I didn't have any more pimples left, but some of the leftover scars was making me itch to try new products to put them away for good. Well, so much for clear skin. SKII broke me out like no tomorrow! I've battled long and hard with pimples from grade 6 until grade 11 and finally, they settled down during my second year of university. I even had bangs cut before and the hair didn't create problems and myforehead was still clear. I bought the Purifying Gel Cleanser, the Facial Essence (so expensive, and also the smell of the product is err...aqcuired) and a moisturiser they recommended. $400 down the drain--not to mention my face has turned into a pizza face. UGH! I'm still in recovery mode. SKII is super effective...at creating PIMPLES! Massive breakouts in just 2-4 applications. (for me, at least)

Anyway, back to La Mer. After SKII destroying my face, I was frantically finding ways to save my face. The Creme de La Mer is actually not that greasy. Just don't slather it on because you think it will give you a miracle. I use a little bit less than 1/2 the size of my pinky nail. Emulsification is key to this product, or else it just sits on top of your face like an oil slick. It seems to work better as a night cream. As for the gel, I REALLY LOVE IT. I use it as a day cream. Its super lightweight and gives the same glow that the CDLM gives. I have deluxe samples of the cleansing lotion and the tonic also--both of which I don't really like. The cleansing lotion didn't feel like it cleansed my face at all! And I don't wear makeup! The tonic was nothing really special, and for the kind of price La Mer wants, I consider it a total rip off. I also tried the Lotion version of CDLM, which I also didn't like. If you have oily skin, definately give the Gel a try for daytime and the Creme for night. It's really helping to clear up my face and fade the scars that the pimples left over. But in any case, La Mer is too expensive to take the plunge before trying a sample. So head out to your closest La Mer counter and ask for a sample!

If you are interested, my current pimple fighting routine is:

- Cleansing with LUSH Coalface (THIS STUFF IS AMAZING!)
- Toning with ProActiv toner.
- Applying La Mer Gel for day and Creme for night

I also use Sothys Desquacreme every other day in the shower. This is a really good product for deep cleansing and dissolving impurities and oil on your skin. If you wipe it off with some cotton balls, you actually see the yucky yellow stuff. (EW). Depending on how I feel that day, I sometimes use the Active Cream instead of La Mer.

I've never tried Khiels, so I can't give you a comment on it. ;)

Sorry about the long post! :sweatdrop:

i have used khiels before but was never impressed. :(
i now use la mer and love it! my skin has cleared so much and feels hydrated. i have oily combo skin and so i use the cleansing gel, oil absorbing lotion, and the creme only for dry patches.

Khiels has some good products, especially their eye creams.

I'm not impressed with La Mer, especially when I read the ingredients and realized it's mostly mineral oil...yuck!!!

la mere gel creme and liftingserum have worked wonders on my fine lines and beginning sun damamage spote. he cream was too heavy and made break out so I eturne it for the gel creme. Works very well. I dont hav to use concealer around my eyes anymore...and i work overnights!

i have very dry and sensitive skin and have been using la mer (the creme) for quite a few years now. i used to suffer from eczema on my face and after i started using la mer it cleared up. i tried kiehls once and it gave me a bad reaction. never tried sk-II. i must say though i've tried quite a few other la mer products and i don't think they are worth it. for me i just like the creme and have tried other brands since but they usually don't moisturize enough or give me some weird reaction. so now i've just settled into the fact that i will stick with la mer.

i've never tried la mer or khiels but i did use SK-II for a few months. and nothing happened. and it felt really oily on my skin...i just didn't really like their face wash because it was so oil based and it never really felt like it came off and my face was covered in a film of product. their essence and toner was fine...nothing special. the smell wasn't a bother to me...in essence it did nothing good or bad to my skin. so i hopped to another brand and another brand until i settled on origins

Actually, SK-II is more of an everyday kind of skin care line, I feel. I like their cleanser and the Facial Clear Solution that's good for my oilier skin type. I don't like the essence, even though I have a huge bottle, 'cos I just feel that it doesn't do much for me. Your skin doesn't "worsen" after stopping usage of it. Well, mine hasn't. The people whose skin supposedly worsened after stopping got zits probably because they were using a new line.

I don't like La Mer's line of products - full of mineral oil and non effective.

I do like Kiehl's products from their face products to their body products. The Creme de Corps will forever have the "Best body moisturizer" title in my books.

I just started using the Oil Absorbing Lotion last week and so far it has helped to control my oily face. It is also clearing up the major acne breakout from the products I was using before this. I haven't been using it long enough to give a thorough opinion yet, but so far I am liking it!

OMG!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Creme de Corps!!!

I have close friends that use Khiel's and have heard nothing but good things about their products. I'm actually going to pick up their sunscreen today.

As for SK-II, there was a lawsuit in China/Shanghai/Japan that this company's products wrecked the skin of several users. Don't know much about it but I'm sure you can google it.

khiels products are wonderful. I bought the regular La Mer, but it was way too heavy for humid fl weather. All it did was make me break out. I'm using Prevage right now and really like it.

La mer works wonder on my combo skin in winter. It is heavy and you are supposed to warm it up and spread it well. I use the creme at night. Recently got a sample of the Gel and it is actually very good for the warmer months. However I've invested in the lotion, so will stick with the lotion till next time.

Kiehls is great because it is inexpensive and most of the skin care line is fragrance free. The cucumber toner is great and so is the baby lip balm. Their moisturizers are also very good if you don't need anything fancy. The waterbased sunscreen is also light and easy to apply. Not greasy at all for the face.

I've used Kiehl's, which I like overall, but it didn't do much for my skin. I do love their Tea Tree Oil Toner though, and I use it on a daily basis, as well as their lip balm. Their moisturizers were too heavy for me though.

Currently, I'm using La Mer, and I love it. I've been using the gel cream, radiant infusion, foundation, and tinted moisturizer. My skin has never looked this smooth and clear. I did start out by using the moisturizing lotion and creme, but they were a bit too heavy, and the gel is a better match for me. Although it is expensive, I've found that you don't need much, so all of their products last for quite some time.
