I wrote this in the Adele thread as well but I really wasn't a fan of the Adele tribute to George at the Grammy's.

I like Adele - but (and I'm not talking about the flub at the beginning) that tribute to George Michael wasn't good. It in no way embraced his spirit or that of his music. He had a brilliant soul voice and could bring the funk.

I would really have loved to see someone do Freedom 90 or Waiting for That Day.

And this version of Fastlove is brilliant - the whole MTV Unplugged session is worth watching.

^ That's a great version of the song, he was so good.

Didn't see the Grammys but I can't recall a tribute song that was ever really good or did full justice to the artist especially one that comes soon after a singer's death.

I think the pressure + emotion tends to kill the performance and interpretation... some time needs to go by to gain perspective.

I adore Adele but wasn't impressed with the tribute at all. The song was troubled and kind of a downer. I would have liked a much more upbeat tune that the audience could get their groove on and celebrate his life.

We miss you GM ❤

Fastlove is a dancefloor funk song about one-night stands. She picked the wrong song.

He had tons of ballads, like Careless Whisper or the beautiful Waiting for that Day that would have suited her much better.

I agree- Careless Whisper would have been awesome!
I agree , it seemed inappropriate and just reminded me of a time where he went on a downward spiral. Her voice was very strong and I'm glad it was her because she admired him and was emotional , it was depressing . I would of loved to see little Wham ! In the video clips then get in to solo and let us hear him sing a bit , especially couple live clips then a tribute song. There's an article , think in LA Times where Adele explains Fastlove choice . Makes sense in that it started her out as fan and was bigger in UK but should of made sense for George more . I cried hard seeing him memorialized like that , still difficult to come to terms with .

Singer George Michael died of natural causes - coroner

Singer George Michael died of natural causes, a British coroner said on Tuesday, finding that heart failure and liver disease caused the pop star's death on Christmas Day last year.

The coroner said that there was no need for further inquiries into the death of Michael, 53, who rose to stardom in the 1980s with Wham! before a successful solo career.

"As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Myocarditis and Fatty Liver, the investigation is being discontinued," Darren Salter, the Senior Coroner for Oxfordshire, said in a statement.

Dilated cardiomyopathy is a heart condition that impairs the pumping of blood around the body.

The initial autopsy into the singer's death had been inconclusive, though his manager had said previously that he had died of heart failure.

“Wham! were one of the most successful pop duos of the mid 1980s, with singles such as “"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", "Last Christmas", “"Careless Whisper", and "Young Guns (Go For It!)".

George Michael's grave can be seen for the first time after staff at Highgate Cemetery removed the screens around the plot.

The Wham! legend was buried next to his mother last month three weeks after his funeral at the graveyard in North London.

The plot is marked by a grey stone cross and is surrounded by simple white flower blossoms.
