I'don't use twillies a lot, perhaps because the weather is too hot most of the year, idk...
But here are a few of the uses...
As a loop on the handle

Around the neck with a white shirt

And wrapped around 1 handle inspired by the Asians and Hermes thread, but still not a fan of this look...

Just a regular double knot (like you'd tie your shoes or a ribbon), I'm not very good with knots so I tie it twice trying to camouflage the ugly parts. It is pretty stable and looks cute. Nothing fancy lol!

bagsforme -- Here's my HAC with two different twillies on the handles: Capitales black multicolore twilly and Tohu Bohu black multicolore twilly. You can judge whether it looks odd

i always use 2 different ones. here's lotus + jeu des omnibus on my black swift 25cm birkin (^(oo)^)v

they don't even have to be similar in colour - sometimes it's more fun if they're different, especially if your outfit is pretty neutral . . . . here's an old action shot from a few months ago: pink bolduc hidden & green plumes on ficelle lizard 25cm birkin

Like Piggy said it is quite all right to use whatever you like, similar colours or completely dif colours.
