it's been like that every time I've seen it. doesn't the display say something about it being re-set by different owners? maybe that's why? it's been about 2 years since I've seen it. :shrugs:

Me too!! It's so pretty in there!! :) Maybe you can answer this question, do they always display the Hope Diamond separate from the necklace?

Hey sapphire lovers. I finally was able to add some yellow sapphires to my collection. I bought these David Yurman metro pave rings- one in yellow sapphires with a little bit of yellow gold on the side, and one in blue sapphires in all sterling. I won't wear them stacked as they are too wide for my short fingers, but just took a picture with both on.

Thanks!! :)

On August 19, 2009, the Smithsonian Institution announced that the Hope Diamond is to get a temporary new setting to celebrate a half-century at the National Museum of Natural History. Starting in September, the 45.52-carat (9.10 g) diamond will be exhibited as a stand-alone gem with no setting.

The Hope has been removed from its setting for cleaning from time to time, but this is the first time it will be on public view by itself. Previously it has been shown in a platinum setting, surrounded by 16 white pear-shaped and cushion-cut diamonds, suspended from a chain containing forty-five diamonds. The Hope will return to its traditional setting in late 2010.[24]

nice research! shoot, that means I won't see it in it's temp setting since it's already late 2010 & I have no plans to go to DC by the end of the year. I'm glad you posted that pic...I'll have to google now too. :p
